message 4: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3247 comments I'll probably read Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson.

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 452 comments I probably wont decide until during the year, but I already have Such a Fun Age on my TBR.

message 6: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1469 comments This easy. I have waited 6 years, it will be 7 years, when The Mirror & the Light by Hilary Mantel is released. This is the end of the trilogy about Thomas Cromwell.

message 7: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Same for me, Sherri. I'm anxious to have this book in my hands.

message 8: by Ira (new)

Ira | 354 comments I think I may go for a sequel for this one. Age of Death by Michael J. Sullivan comes out in February 2020. The Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan have an expected publication in 2020 but no set date, so I will have to wait and see.

message 9: by Entropia (new)

Entropia | 283 comments Hmm, I'm not sure if translation counts, but I really want to read English translation of Püha ja õudne lõhn, which is supposed to be released in second half of the year. It's set in the same universe and is written by lead writer of my favorite game of 2019 (and maybe even a decade) Disco Elysium. I loved its word-building and writing, so I'm pretty excited.
Other than that, I'm interested in new Akwaeke Emezi's book The Death of Vivek Oji.

O my gee.

5 bright and sparkly stars.

Just. Wow.

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments What are you reading for this category?
I read The Catch by Mick Herron

Do you enjoy reading new releases?
Only if they are the next book in a series I am reading through. I normally read older books

message 12: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmyers) | 539 comments 1. What are you reading for this category? I read The Secret Guests by Benjamin Black by Benjamin Black for this.
2. Do you enjoy reading new releases? A large percentage of what I read fall into that category.

message 13: by Kathi (new)

Kathi (kathijo) 1. What are you reading for this category?
The Look-Alike by Erica Spindler

2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
I do! I am like a magpie and am always attracted to the shiny new thing which explains why I have such overflowing bookshelves!

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura (texas318) | 104 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
Her Scream in the Silence by Denise Grover Swank

2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
Yes, especially if they are continuations of a series that I regularly read

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 10954 comments Mod
I read All the Ways We Said Goodbye by Beatriz Williams, Karen White, and Lauren Willig.

I've read collaborations by these authors before, and the way that they weave history together never ceases to amaze me. In this one, I really liked all of the characters equally (which is new for me in their books), but I thought the plot was a bit muddled and I had a hard time keeping the characters straight. A 4 star read for me.

I love reading new releases, and my average year published right now is 2014, which is only so low because I read one book published in 1951 that's bringing the average way down. Of the 18 books I've read this year, 10 have been published in 2019 or 2020.

message 16: by Stacey (last edited Feb 27, 2020 09:53AM) (new)

Stacey D. | 1908 comments Hot off the press! Looking forward to starting Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin this week. I usually don't jump on the new release bandwagon, but as I knew the novel was coming out this month, I put it on my local library's hold list in January. True to form, it became available earlier than I had thought and at the same time as American Dirt showed up. I just finished that one - another relatively new, highly recommended release - that is so, so great! - on my challenge list.

message 17: by Susan (new)

Susan | 143 comments The first new book I read this year was Woven in Moonlight, and I really looked forward to it, but it just embraced the clichés. I don't normally chase after new releases because I have a huge backlist on my TBR.

message 18: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments 1. What are you reading for this category? The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz
2. Do you enjoy reading new releases? I don't often unless I really am waiting for a book to come out. This book I'm interested in but I normally wouldn't have listened so soon. I'm going to do it as an audio book this year and I vowed I would try to fit my audio books into my plan this year as I read them. I do subscribe to audible just because for the audio books I want to listen to they seem hard to find so it's just easier getting the subscription. This one wouldn't have been hard to find but I said why not use it for the 2020 prompt.

message 19: by Tracy (last edited Mar 08, 2020 05:04PM) (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments One of Us Is Next (One of Us Is Lying, #2) by Karen M. McManus

Devoured this today!! So. Much. Fun!

I have quite a few new releases on my lists for other categories as well, and most of them are taking me 6+ months to get loaded onto my Libby app. A few years ago I went through the good reads new release list and pre-ordered a bunch to my kindle, but I still haven't read most of them, so I stopped doing that. The exception will probably be The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

message 20: by Bana AZ (new)

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 836 comments I just finished Followers by Megan Angelo. Just 3 stars for me. I think if you watch Black Mirror, you won't be blown away by this book.

I usually don't read new releases that much, not because I don't like them, but because they're more expensive. But I do want to read more new releases now, especially after taking stock if my "read" shelf and saw that majority of what I've read were before 2000.

message 21: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilyesears) | 412 comments I read Sharks in the Time of Saviors. I don't typically read new releases--I tend to be like 2 years behind on the hot new books since I have so many on my to-read list. I read this new release because it was my book club's pick for the month.

message 22: by Traci (new)

Traci (scraptraci) | 66 comments Treason by Stuart Woods
This was on my list as it is the latest in the Stone Barrington series so I was looking forward to its release. I generally don't read new releases a ton as my primary source of books is the library so unless i get lucky and get it off the top picks shelves it usually takes a while for me to get the books

message 23: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn | 308 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
Days of Distraction by Alexandra Chang
2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
Not really I only read 2 or new releases a year.

message 24: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 455 comments For this category, I read Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson. As much as I try to limit my established TBR distractions, a new release tends to grab my attention every month or so. :)

message 25: by Emily (new)

Emily I chose this one:

48. A Book Published in 2020: One of Us is Next by Karen M. McMannus

It was another fun ride and quite enjoyable.

message 26: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 480 comments 1. What are you reading for this category? The Deep 02/05/2020
2. Do you enjoy reading new releases? yes i get a lot from Netgalley and I like especially like getting new books of favourite authors. I really enjoyed The Hunger by this author but this one was not such a hit for me

message 27: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3769 comments I'm reading Three Brothers: Memories of My Family by Chinese author Yan Lianke. I didn't realize this was a 2020 publication at first. I was reading another book by this author but it got automatically pulled back to the library because of its due date before I finished it. So, I randomly chose this other book of his, which I found on Hoopla. Yes, I do enjoy new releases!

message 28: by Ira (new)

Ira | 354 comments I am going with Age of Death by Michael J. Sullivan , Peace Talks by Jim Butcher or The Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan. Who am I kidding? I am reading all of them, I just have to find out where to fit them.

message 29: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey Keathley-Jones (keathleyc) | 236 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
The Holdout by Graham Moore

2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
Yes.

message 30: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Peterson | 700 comments I'm reading Why Fish Don't Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life by Lulu Miller for this prompt. It's a very interesting mix of biography and autobiography, where the author really weaves in her personal experience with the subject and why it's meaningful to her. I started off a little unsure about it, but once I got a feeling for what she was trying to do, I started to really enjoy it.

I actually almost never read new releases - I feel like I'm always trying to play catch up with all the great books that I've missed, so I don't even notice new releases. I read a lot of classics and it usually takes a year or two for the buzz about a new book to make it to me and make me decide to bump it up my list. I'm honestly not sure the last time I read a book in the same year it was published! (Maybe when I was a teenager and there were more living authors whose work I was following and waiting on the next release.) I heard about this book from John Green, who did a quarantine book recommendations video on his Youtube channel.

message 31: by Jana (new)

Jana | 73 comments The Lost Family: How DNA Testing Is Uncovering Secrets, Reuniting Relatives, and Upending Who We Are
I heard about this book during an interview on a radio program. Very interesting.

message 32: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1469 comments I read Untamed by Glennon Doyle for this prompt.
I enjoy reading new releases but by the time I get them they are no longer new releases. Maybe one year I'll read all new releases.

message 33: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) | 378 comments I read Such a Fun Age for this one, which technically came out on 31 Dec 2019, but I'm calling it 2020 for the purposes of slotting it in. What with the fraught racial relations central to the story, it certainly felt timely.

I don't always read new books when they come out, but I've been making an effort lately to read more. Most of the time I seem to jump late onto the bandwagon, but I'm okay with avoiding overhyped books. I tend to mix newer books and classics into my reading--I'd probably get bored with out the balance.

message 34: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Kristick | 874 comments I read A Song for Lonely Wolves by Lee Evie. Excellent historical mystery set in 1590 Korea. Lead character is a damo, a police servant woman who is helping investigate the disappearance of a young woman.

message 35: by Magda (new)

Magda I read Saving Missy by Beth Morrey. A book about loneliness, loss, new friendships, family dynamic and reinventing yourself. I loves this book.

message 36: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 235 comments I’m reading Dave Rubin’s Don’t Burn This Book. I’ve trying to read both Conservative and Liberal books this year so I can get more balanced views of upcoming issues in the upcoming election.

message 37: by Virginia (new)

Virginia (dogdaysinaz) | 54 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read It's Not All Downhill From Here; I read it in January and it was the first book I read this year published this year. It was an Advanced Readers Copy.
It's Not All Downhill from Here by Terry McMillan
2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
Yes!

message 38: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) I read The Shadows. I do enjoy new releases

message 39: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracky75) | 49 comments New releases aren't my favorite unless they are from a trusted author. However, I enjoyed this regency by Chalon Linton: Adoring Abigail.

message 40: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) | 378 comments So I ended up changing things around a bit. Above I said I read Such a Fun Age, but I ended up sliding it to another category (global city) and am slotting The Only Good Indians here instead. I'm really enjoying it so far, and glad I could do a last-minute shuffle to accommodate it, since I hadn't heard about the book until it came out in July.

message 41: by GailW (new)

GailW (abbygg) | 622 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate
2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
I do. But I'm usually a year behind unless we are reading it for my book club.

message 42: by Karen (new)

Karen | 94 comments I just finished You Are Not Alone for this prompt. I've read the other two books by these authors, and enjoyed them both.

I don't typically read new releases, as I buy most of my books used and borrow the other ones from the library, so by the time I get to most books they aren't new anymore. That's fine with me though.

message 43: by Samantha (new)

Alexx (dinosaurslayeggs) | 136 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell

2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
I do, but I have such a back log of books to read that I never end up getting to them until years later

message 46: by Severina (new)

Severina | 385 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read Ignorance is Strength, an anthology of dystopian fiction edited by John Joseph Adams, Hugh Howey, and Christie Yant

2. Do you enjoy reading new releases?
I do, but sometimes it still takes me a while to get to them. There's also at least one book of a series that I'm reading and a few by favourite authors that I will pick up as soon as they come out.

message 47: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1049 comments I read Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey.

I only read one new release a year - for this prompt. It's not that I dislike new books, it's just I have shelves full of books I know I want to read and none of them are new.

message 48: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 477 comments I read Love Her or Lose Her (Hot & Hammered, #2) by Tessa Bailey Love Her or Lose Her by Tessa Bailey. It feels nice to keep current with new books, especially in a series, but I almost never do. I mostly read older stuff but I probably get through about a dozen new releases each year.
