Rebeca RivasBach | 10 comments “The Elite by Kiera Cass, is the second book of the selection series. America is the main character and she is competing for the love of Prince Maxon. Before she left for The Selection, she was in a 2-year relationship with a boy named Aspen but Aspen broke things off before she left for the competition. In the first book she hates being there at the palace and she believes she could never fall in love with a prince who is stuck up or greedy. As she continues in the competition, she becomes great friends with Prince Maxon which leads to a romantic relationship between the two of them. In The Elite she realizes she cares for Maxon and no longer thinks the selection is just a way to avoid her previous romance. But trouble arises as Aspen becomes a palace guard and she realize she cannot avoid him. Now she must choose between Prince Maxon or Aspen and struggles with herself not wanting to open up about her true emotions about them. Another issue dealt with at the palace are the rebel forces who are attacking the palace. America with the help of Maxon try to solve why the rebels are attacking as they believe for some, not all their motives are negative and deadly.
I highly enjoy this book and the series as well. The author Kiera Cass does a really good job of bringing the reader in with detail and experiences that readers can relate to. Her words create a story that not only deals with romance but as well as action, sympathy, hate towards one another, and compassion towards one another. One of my favorite things about this book is, out of all the books, you are able to see how America has grown as a person and becomes sure of herself. The book is heavily relying on America and her thoughts about the country and community she is pulled into. I appreciate this because you are able to see how the character truly thinks and it builds a strong bond between the reader and America. Through her writing it is easy to get attached to the America but also the other characters in the series.

Brittanni | 14 comments This series sounds like a book that would keep a reader invested, I noticed that it seems like the character goes through some sort of change between book one and book two that allows her to be happier in the palace. I would be interested to read about this competition that was held, as well as the attacks by rebels; it sounds like a really good book. I feel like this review is very thought out and fair, I appreciated the inclusion of other characters rather than just focusing on one or two characters.

This is one of my favorite books I've read. America does change a lot in between both books and it's mostly just accepting herself. Which does allow her to be happier in the palace making it a better environment for her.
In the first book the rebels didn't seem that important, just something extra added to the book. But they become really interesting and play a key role in the series. I love this series and for sure you should read it if you get the chance.

The author does a really good job. After i finished the series I was so attached to the characters. Even after the first book. And not only with America but as well as Prince Maxon, Aspen, and the other girls participating. I really love the second book. There is a lot more depth and the story just grows so much in ways i did not expect it to.
