Lynn (lynnali) | 524 comments I'm not sure which series you're talking about.

I tried to read Laura Childs's series but really couldn't get into it. I'm the odd man out here that way, it seems.

I'm willing to give others a try, but I'm not sure which ones you mean.

Like Lynn there are several series that steamship. Laura Childs is the best known. I never really like them. Okay when I Ned something to read.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I used to read the series, but stopped a few books back. Theo just got on my nerves and her "frenemy", Delaine, just got to be too much for me. I'd have choked her years ago. And that stick just seemed to be getting farther & farther up Drayton's butt!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I read the first few, but I stopped when I realised I didn't care at all about Theo's life. I have a very dim memory of the last one I read involving a boat race, I think? and Theo's love life was in question and I just found myself feeling "meh" about the whole thing.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 308 comments I only read one of these books. I liked it well enough till I realized there were no clues to the solving of the murder, but all of a sudden the MC knew who it was. And the crime was solved. What? I even went back looking for a clue, any clue, that I might have missed and couldn't find one. I don't mind character pieces as a rule; but when I read a mystery, I do expect some clues.

Hi Ashley!

Though there wasn't a thread specifically for this series, Laura Childs has been our featured author twice, in July 2010 and August 2014. You might want to check out these discussions (click on the links) to see what others had to say about her books/series. ,-)

Daniele | 8 comments Laura Child's Tea Shop series has long been a favorite and are some of the only books that I keep. Perhaps I love them because they were some of my first cozy reads. I love Drayton and Earl Grey and all the talk about tea. Delaine makes me crazy, and the book that centers around her fiancé's death is my least favorite of the bunch. Occasionally, Theo is a bit boing (too perfect?), but I keep reading.

Becky | 280 comments I haven't read them in order but like another poster- i could care less about the characters. To be honest I skim through them & only read them for the recipes. I feel the same about her Scrapbooking series. I just started book one of her cackleberry so we'll see how i feel about it later.

I like the Cackleberry books!

Becky | 280 comments I am liking it too

message 11: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 678 comments I just finished reading the first one and kind of liked it. I really like the Scrapbooking series, so thought I would try the Tea Shop series. I did find that there were very few clues, but I did realize who the murderer was, right before Theo went to visit her that last time. ;) I also found a few typographical errors and wondered where the editor was. I mean, at one point, Burt's name is spelled Bert! I think I will give a few more of this series a try before I make a final decision. :)

message 12: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (tribalcat) | 307 comments I read the first 15 books, but I couldn't finish the 16th, Ming Tea Murder. The character I like the most is Earl Grey (the dog), and the tea shop setting in Charleston is wonderful, but it seems like Theo's reactions are always way over the top, and she's so self-righteous. She makes it so obvious that she's butting into every case, and the way she demands answers from Tidwell aren't realistic at all. Why would a police detective tell her anything that was going on in the case? Just couldn't read any more. But I really enjoy the Cackleberry Club books, and I've started reading the Scrapbooking series.

message 13: by Blanche (new)

Blanche Manos (blanchedaymanos) | 14 comments I like the tea shop and the scrapbooking series. It's fun to return to the same characters, like dropping in on old friends. The only question I'd have is how does Haley whip up all that array of food for so many customers by herself? She's a busy little cook!

message 14: by Jean (new)

Jean Harrington (wwwjeanharringtoncom) | 105 comments Blanche, In fiction all things are possible--Peter Pan stays forever young, Mr. Rochester turns out to be a doll and Scarlett O'Hara actually lets Rhett Butler get away.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I have the first four of these to read, about to start it.

message 16: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 6 comments I read the first book earlier this year. Pretty sure I gave it 3 stars. It just didn't grab my attention enough. I'd consider reading another book though.

Linda Klinedinst (linda_klinedinst) | 113 comments I love the Tea Shop Mysteries....I have read several of them already.

message 18: by Courtney (new)

Courtney H (courtneysstories) | 1 comments I love the series. Theo and the gang are fantastic (I could really do without Delaine) and I LOVE the tea shop and all the tea talk (OK I just love tea). As with many Cozies there are issues with character development and personalities being TOO dramatized, but I find that if I don't binge read them it's not a problem. :)

message 19: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (avid_reader_mj) This is one of my favourite cozy mystery series, mainly because I love the setting and I'm a big tea drinker. I agree with other posters that Theo can be too perfect, and that her constant butting in on police matters to solve murders is totally unrealistic, but there is something about the series that has drawn me in regardless of these issues. I find the series is perfect to pick up when I need something quick and light to read.

message 20: by Ellen (new)

Ellen Drayton is my favorite character in the tea shop series. The most colorful and brings depth and just plain fun to each story when he's featured.

message 21: by Diane (new)

Diane (muffybf) | 15 comments I love Laura child’s tea house books but lately I’m “off them. I couldn’t finish the last one, maybe Ming. I will pick it up this winter and try to move on to the next in the series.
