YA Fantasy

This is just a place to chat, talk, & strategize. Please Post on the Main thread what your read books for points. Scores for both teams will be tracked there.

Your Teams focused Genres (based on the top 3 each). A * next to a genre is another person who had that on there top. So a genre with 2 asterisks means 3 total people on this team has that as a top genre. Remember that when this is over the top three genre's claimed will give 5 points to each person who listed them. Choose carefully as once you post, it can't be changed. Remember to post books read within 2 weeks of finishing.

Challenge will run through the end of March.

Post each book on here on the main thread, like this:

Book: The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson (ORThe Final Empire)
Finished reading: 1/4 (or Jan 4, 1/4/20)
MPG Genre claimed: Fantasy

So I will be starting the month with:
For Wreck and Remnant (Secrets of Itlantis #4) by Kate Avery Ellison & Concealed (Virus #1) by R.J. Crayton

What is everyone else starting their New Year with?

message 10: by Adriana (last edited Dec 28, 2019 08:17PM) (new)

Adriana | 61 comments The standalones I'm starting with: 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston & Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo

The series I'm starting with: Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove, #1) by Shelby Mahurin & Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones

Howl's Moving Castle I'm reading slowly throughout the month.

I'm reading the Tokyo Ghoul series. I need to finish it this year already! Are there any you are looking at that you want to read this month?

I am wanting to continue with Battle Angel Alita, and get back into Fruits Basket and Boys over Flowers soon-ish. But I've also been torn over several others. Anything that is not a BR is just mood reading so whatever fits my mood best. I see you have Food Wars on your TBR. if you want to start that I can see if my library has them.

message 14: by Adriana (last edited Dec 28, 2019 09:23PM) (new)

Adriana | 61 comments I'll probably won't be able to get Food Wars! Vol. 1 this month. My library has one copy and there is already a hold.

I watched a good amount of Boys Over Flowers the show on Netflix but I couldn't get into it after a while. Are you interested in Handa-kun 1, Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 1, The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, A Rún, Volume 2, or Noragami 1?

message 15: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 2554 comments Mod
I’ll check what my library has for those on Monday :)

message 16: by Sans (last edited Dec 28, 2019 10:56PM) (new)

Sans | 722 comments Ok, I'm planning to read A Curse So Dark and Lonely for fantasy (and YA?) and finish Three Nights with a Scoundrel for romance.

I'm also gonna finish Revan for sci-fi. I've got a bunch of graphic novels planned too, not sure what they might fit under. Iron Man, Captain America, Justice League, Superman, Robotech, various X-Men adjacent titles all are kinda sci-fi.

So apparently my library doesn't have any of these. They are terrible about keeping up with manga. They get the mainstream stuff in triplicate or more but everything else takes them years to get if ever.

message 22: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments So I finished a book I didn't get done in 2019 so I'll review and post that soon-ish.

I've also started The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller as my first full book read. :)

message 23: by Aly (new)

Aly (alyp_01) | 358 comments I finished a book but it's not part of a series. Should have Nyxia done today.

Nope :) As long as your book is dated and marked as read on your shelves we give it to you.

But sometimes it is easier to wait and post for all challenges at once too, so you don't forget one. That is what I try to do.

True but I choose to make myself feel better and posted it here. I think I'm in another challenge in this group so I should post it there too so I don't forget. :P

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments Aly wrote: "Whoo go Book!!"

Thanks! Doing okay so far. I've been listening to the HP 1 in French and have got about 1/3 of the first chapter done.

I still have chapter 2 of English and chapter 2 of French to go and 19% of A Curse So Dark and Lonely. I'm trying to not watch tv and instead listen to my audios when I don't want to read a physical. :)

message 43: by Aly (new)

Aly (alyp_01) | 358 comments That's so awesome you're reading in French.

I need to stay away from tv too lol. And fanfiction ugh

message 44: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments I'm not sure I would call it reading. I'm attempting. lol. It helps it's a book I know and that I'm also listening in English. I just do chapter 1 in English and then chapter 1 in French so it's nice and fresh. :P

I am 34% done with For Wreck and Remnant (Secrets of Itlantis #4) by Kate Avery Ellison , and almost 1/2 through Saga, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan . I'll be starting Night Chill (Night Chill, #1) by Jeff Gunhus either tonight or tomorrow.

message 46: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 2554 comments Mod
Also listening to A Crystal of Time (The School for Good and Evil The Camelot Years, #2) by Soman Chainani but that is on pause today. No way I'll have time to listen and probably not much reading today either. Busy busy day!

Aly, I've been on a fanfic kick lately too. Reading more of that than any kind of book and I need to stop.
