What impresses me most about this book, is the author's re-interpretation of Captain Hook in a rather convincing first-person voice.
My question is this.
Who would James Hookbridge be if he lived in your neighborhood? Your lifetime? In the world as you know it now?
Or is he simply too intangible, like a literary figment of our imagination?

When is this book supposed to be read by? I just picked it up."
I've got it marked through the end of Feb, but really you can read it anytime.

The older I get, and the more married I get, the harder romances have to work to win me over. The romance here, between Hook and Stella, was not my favorite part of this book. For me, it was the voice of Hook, part scoundrel, part tortured soul, that kept me reading.
In contemporary times, I imagine Hook as an actor, because whereas could such an unstable, irresistibly big personality land? It would have to be an actor with a troubled past, yet someone incomprehensibly charming. Robert Downey Jr?
On a smaller scale, in my little town, Hook would be the middle-aged man I sometimes see taking walks alone in a leather jacket and a beret. It shouldn't make any sense, but on him it does.

I think the author would say that Hook or any of the Neverland returns could be me, you, anyone that needed to explore the want and desires of childhood and like Piper says it is up to them to choose where they are going and when they leave.
In that same vein, anyone could of been to Neverland but Hook stays special in that he encapsulates the man with the rough voice but the sweet smile hidden for children. He's the motorcycle dude with the heart of gold. The barkeep that is rough around the edges but driving the drunks home. The fisherman whose bark is loud but patience enduring.

Better luck next time. I call uncle more than I'd like to admit when I can't get into a new book.

Thank you for participating, Jasmine. I enjoyed reading your thoughtful comments.
Could it be any of us? I hadn't considered that at all when I read the book, but I'll be chewing that one over now that you've mentioned it.

Denise, please come back and leave your thoughts even if the discussion has moved on to the next book. If you're reading something *amazing* now, please share it on our "What are you reading now" discussion board.
