Chris | 190 comments I have a star system

1 star - Hated and binned it.

2 stars - Hated it but finished it.

3 stars - It was OK.

4 stars - Liked it.

5 stars - Loved it.

Half stars for something I liked, like cover or if I’m between stars.

So, if it wasn't for this challenge it would have been 1 star because you wouldn't have finished it?

I'm more of an emotional rater. I seldom do 1 star, but I'm pretty flexible between 4 & 5 stars. It depends on how I'm feeling right as I finish it. :)

Oh wow, nice work! I will be wrapping up my current read today/tomorrow and will then start in on my red 9.

message 255: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments Splendid! Lady of the River is excellent but will still take a few days to read. Should be finished ‘We Need To Talk About Kevin tomorrow though.

Savir Husain Khan (savir) | 4 comments Hi guys,

How do I start?
Help me pick a book.

message 257: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Savir, read whatever you want! Everything fits somewhere.

message 258: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey Keathley-Jones (keathleyc) | 172 comments Yes, you can always ask us for recommendations based on what genre you enjoy but read whatever makes you happy. We will make it work for the challenge.

No. It would have been filed under "B" around page 100. You may like it, though, Laura. Don't let me put you off it too much. It just might be your thing. I just thought it was a bit too "young" for me.

message 261: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Well, this should be an interesting mini-challenge. I'm not very creative so I don't know how much help I'll be on the story writing part.

message 262: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments What is it?

message 263: by Laura (last edited Mar 14, 2020 07:37PM) (new)

Laura | 2892 comments The March mini-challenge has been posted!

/topic/show/...

I will definitely need help with the story, as my creativity is sadly lacking in that regard. So, if you notice a book that someone is reading, and you think of a great part of the story for it, please speak up!

Planning sheet has been added to the planning spreadsheet, so have at it!

message 264: by Laura (last edited Mar 14, 2020 07:56PM) (new)

Laura | 2892 comments The March mini is for books finished on/after March 15 and has 2 parts:

1. Use 15 books to tell the story of our space travels (worth 180 points!)

2. Gather items needed for our space travel (worth 280 points!)

Tasks

Some more things other than food need to be gathered.
1. Read a book with a drink on the cover.
2. Read a book with a blanket on the cover.
3. Read a book with a character who goes shopping.
4. Read a book that is tagged adventure.
5. Read a book with a character who starts something new.

What it takes for you to get ready.
6. Read a book with a character who wears a suit.
7. Read a book that is tagged (cozy) mystery.
8. Read a book by a new-to-you author.
9. Read a book that was first published in 2019.
10. Read a book that is tagged sports.
11. Read a book where a character has a dog.
12. Read a book with a character who takes a risk.
13. Read a book with an overprotective character.
14. Read a book with a character who goes to school.
15. Read a book where someone is on a mission.

What it takes to ready your ship.
16. Read a book with any kind of ship on the cover.
17. Read a book with stars on the cover.
18. Read a book that is tagged science-fiction.
19. Read a book with work tools on the cover.
20. Read a book with a character who builds something.

Ready for the launch party!
21. Read a book where someone leaves (going away for a long time, break up, death....).
22. Read a book with glasses (for drinking) on the cover.
23. Read a book where someone prepares (lots of) food.
24. Read a book with lights on the cover.
25. Read a book where characters go to a party.

message 265: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Questions that have been asked/answered already:

- Nothing has to be finished in any order.
- Tagged just means tagged, not MPG or first page of tags.
- #7 can be tagged as Cozy mystery or Mystery

message 266: by Laura (last edited Mar 15, 2020 12:17AM) (new)

Laura | 2892 comments The Uno gods-that-be want us to decide as a team if a book works for a task. So, #19, work tools? I have a Rugby player Love Hard (Hard Play, #3) by Nalini Singh . Would the ball be a work tool? Or, what about the dagger of a Black Dagger Brotherhood vampire? Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward

message 267: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments Is Rugby a task or a sport?

message 268: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments You could add it for #10 though.

message 269: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments I have it down for #10 right now, but I’ve got plenty of sports books. Rugby is a sport, but in this case it’s also his job.

message 270: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments Ok

message 271: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Does a nut count as a tool? Reese (Pack of Misfits #2) by Raven Kennedy

message 272: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I think the rugby ball might be pushing it a bit but I think a nut would definitely work

message 273: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I finished Journey by James A. Michener this morning and listed it as "tagged adventure" but I wondered about "any ship on the cover". I don't know if I would consider that a ship but thought I would ask.

Also, I think it would be an easy title to use for our story.

message 274: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments A peanut? Haha

message 275: by Jennifer (last edited Mar 15, 2020 01:53PM) (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Hahaha!! Maybe if the character was an elephant trainer a peanut would be a tool
:-P

Chris | 190 comments Lol. Funny!

Laura | 2892 comments Jennifer wrote: "Hahaha!! Maybe if the character was an elephant trainer a peanut would be a tool

I was just about to say that. :)

message 278: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Do we have any science fiction readers on the team other than myself? If not, I'll plan to read one for that task.

message 279: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey Keathley-Jones (keathleyc) | 172 comments I read from every genre and love sci-fi but you can go ahead and claim that one.

message 280: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana Davis | 66 comments A Darker Shade of Magic fits wears a suit, character takes a risk and new to you author. Born a Crime fits goes shopping, has a dog, overprotective character, and someone leaving. Not sure where we should put them but those are books I should finish in the next week.

message 281: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments If you don’t get them added to the planning sheet, one of us will put them on there when we get on. I’m on my phone in bed, so I can do it tomorrow.

I filled them in for goes shopping and character that takes a risk. If you don't care to fill in the reason they fit those.

message 283: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Sorry, haven't had time to look at planning sheet will do so today.

Laura, I read sci-fi too so I can take it if you don't want it.

message 284: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments I’m about 200 pages into a 500 page book and with work commitments I’m not sure if I will be able to do the mini challenge and finish it by the end of March. Unless this book can contribute towards it. If so, I’ll take a look and see where it fits.

message 285: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments Put me down for either Nos. 8, 12, 13 or 21 if we can count this book.

Jennifer J. | 561 comments UGH!! Ok....I'm not very good at this sort of thing and my anxiety is making it very hard to actually post this but....here I go....

As we descended through the Crimson Frost and landed on The Shadow Soul planet we saw the Sea Witch Rising from the Red River. "Girl, she is A Darker Shade of Magic!" exclaimed Emma as the Sea Witch took a Wicked Bite of our ship. Left Neglected this damage would definitely ruin our Journey. It was our Duty to find The Lady of the Rivers and get her safely to The Holdout. Suddenly, Psychic Sabriel announced she knew where The Lady was hiding and that she was fatally wounded. We found The Lady just as she was taking her last breaths. I whispered "What Did You Do Before Dying?" With her last breath she gasped "Love Hard!"

message 289: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments It does use 16 books but I noticed Chris didn't know if he would be able to finish The Lady of the Rivers by the end of March so we could just replace that with a made up name. Or we could switch Emma to one of our names.

message 290: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments Jennifer. That is excellent! How could that be rejected? Well done!

Sorry for the confusion. I didn’t mean I couldn’t finish The Lady of the Rivers, I meant by the time I had finished I wouldn’t be able to do another book in time.

I like it! But I want to make sure every one is still good for the books they planned in the beginning. Let us know if you can't read anything in this list!

1. Crimson Frost - Laura - Change to Dark Frost - Good to finish

2. The Shadow Soul - Jennifer - Good to finish

3. Sea Witch Rising - Melissa

4. Red River Girl - Jennifer - Good to Finish

5. A Darker Shade of Magic - Tatiana

6. Emma - Eli

7. Wicked Bite - Laura (my library is being a bit slow with this one, but I am first on the list)

8. Left Neglected - Chelsey - Finished

9. Journey - Jennifer - Finished

10. Duty - Chelsey - Finished

11. The Lady of the Rivers - Chris - Good to finish

12. The Holdout - Chelsey

13. Suddenly Psychic - Laura - Good to finish

14. Sabriel - Chelsey

15. What Did You Do Before Dying - Jackie - Finished

16. Love Hard - Laura - Finished

message 294: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments If we're good for all the books in this story (and we have one extra if we need to drop one!), then we have a few tasks to fill in that we had already finished and/or found books for:

21. Read a book where someone leaves (going away for a long time, break up, death....).

9. Read a book that was first published in 2019.

12. Read a book with a character who takes a risk.

15. Read a book where someone is on a mission.

4. Read a book that is tagged adventure.

6. Read a book with a character who wears a suit.

10. Read a book that is tagged sports.
I can do another one here

message 295: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I think Dark Frost would be perfect. I used Crimson because at first I thought I had a different place for Dark Frost.

I should finish Red River Girl & The Shadow Soul in the next couple days because SO is still on his hitch until Wednesday morning. Even then I plan on spending more time at home than usual and blaming it on "social distancing"...I really just want a break from people and that seems to be an acceptable excuse at this time hahaha.

Our library and book store have closed indefinitely but thankfully there is still electronic items and of course Amazon & Audible if I need to fill in some of the missing tasks.

message 296: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Let me know if it is acceptable and I can update the tracking sheet and spreadsheet. Things are very slow at work right now. Our owner passed away a couple months ago and we were still reeling and recovering from that when the COVID business hit and made everything worse.

message 297: by Laura (last edited Mar 16, 2020 03:40PM) (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Some of the libraries around us are closing, so I made a bunch of requests last night hoping to get them before ours closes. But Wicked Bite is a digital item, which usually takes longer to get, since people can’t seem to remember to return digital items.

Chelsey Keathley-Jones (keathleyc) | 172 comments I should be able to finish the holdout and sabriel! Excellent story.

message 300: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Mcmahon | 90 comments Sorry Im late to the mini challenge party! Awesome work on the story. I just finished Sea Witch Rising so its good to be included and it was published in 2019 so it could work for #9.
