I'll put it in for the 4.

Is that Catch-22? If so, can you tell me how it fits the 4?

message 353: by Eli (new)

Eli (kongshavn) No, it’s flower for Algernon

Chris | 190 comments What’s that website called that tells you how much colour is on a book cover?

message 355: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments TinEye but I don't think they've been going by that this year. I think if you are wondering just post the bookcover and if we don't think it's obvious we ask the Captain's group.

Chris | 190 comments OK

message 357: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I found The Rule of One (The Rule of One, #1) by Ashley Saunders in my Kindle and it would work for Yellow 2.

message 358: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Mcmahon | 90 comments I have The Hunting Party. I think that would work for Yellow 2 or 3.

I'll put you down for the 3.

message 360: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Looks like the captain's group said no to both of my Red books, so the Red 4 is still open. :(

Jennifer, one of the captain's says she has the physical book that you posted for the green, and the top and bottom are dark green, so it should work. But you've got a lot already committed to. Do you still want to read it?

message 361: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Yes because I’ve already started it. It’s a big book and will take me awhile to finish. My yellow is a Kindle and the blues are all audio. I always have one of each going and go through more audiobooks than the others so it shouldn’t be a problem. But if someone else wants one of the blues they can have it because I don’t want to be a pig :-)

message 362: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I was planning on reading Up Country even if it didn’t work for the color card.

message 363: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Gee, I missed a lot. Evidently didn't get notifications for this thread. I'll see what's left on the color cards.

Jackie | 338 comments I can take Green 9 with Sparrow House (Anna Denning Mystery #2) by Karin Kaufman - Character Nilla.

Also, Red 5 with The Spook's Mistake (The Last Apprentice / Wardstone Chronicles, #5) by Joseph Delaney - #5 in series

Red 4 with Full Dark House (Bryant & May, #1) by Christopher Fowler - Title starts with F

I'm going to ask about The Spook's Mistake in the captain's group. It looks like it might be on the brown side of red to me.

message 366: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Okay.

message 367: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments I actually think it's more of a reddy brown than a browny red! 🤪😁😁

Laura | 2892 comments Chris wrote: "I actually think it's more of a reddy brown than a browny red! 🤪😁😁"

It's one of those colors! You should hear us in the Captain's group about a particular range of shades that some people think look blue and others think look green! That's why we don't use TinEye anymore. The number of times that site has said something like {descriptive word} Green (Blue), meaning the name of the color is Green, but the site classifies it as Blue. And I've seen it the other way, as well. :)

message 369: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments No problem if it doesn't work. I can find another.

message 370: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments By the way have you heard the suggestion that we should extend the challenge for another month as most people are isolated anyway? What do you think?

message 371: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments I would love that! But the mods haven’t responded yet in the captain’s group.

message 372: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments They should put it to a poll vote. (Not pole vault. That’s completely different!)

You're good for the The Spook's Mistake.

message 374: by Laura (new)

message 378: by Chris (last edited Apr 01, 2020 09:47AM) (new)

Chris | 190 comments Finished Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris .

Now on to Wolf Hall (Thomas Cromwell, #1) by Hilary Mantel . This could count as a red. If it fits I'll claim it, please.

I don't think the hierarchy are in much favour to be honest. They're saying that others may have other challenges coming up and the logistics could pose a problem with people dropping out et al.

I think it's related to the large upcoming team challenges in NBRC.

I believe someone said that Wheel-a-thon is usually late Spring to early Summer, and Tower Teams is late Summer to early Autumn. And some Uno teams are having problems with players dropping out. That happens more and more the longer a challenge goes. We always have to place Mods on teams in AMMP when a team challenge goes longer than about 4 weeks. That's why we often don't sign up to begin with.

message 383: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Well I guess I'll just have to find some new challenges to entertain myself :-)

message 384: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Jennifer, there’s a new round of Clue starting in Game Night!

message 385: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Up Country is mostly in different locations throughout Vietnam but I know they are pretty picky about being specific for locations. Do you think that would work?

message 386: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I've never played Clue. I'm off to check it out!

message 387: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments Me too!

Jennifer J. | 561 comments It looks fun so I signed up!

message 389: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments I can’t find it! 😢

Laura | 2892 comments Jennifer wrote: "Up Country is mostly in different locations throughout Vietnam but I know they are pretty picky about being specific for locations. Do you think that would work?"

We have to be as specific as possible, so we can’t use that for Vietnam. If we know the city, we use the city rather than the country. If a book takes place largely within Sweetwater Manor, that would be the location. And if a book has a lot of settings is better not to use it for the location.

message 395: by Chris (new)

Chris | 190 comments Thank you. I’m reading bigger books at the minute and don’t think I can commit to a book a week. So I’ll pass for now but it does look interesting.

message 396: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Thank you Laura. There are other cards it will also work for so I will just use those.

message 397: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments We have our first finished hand!

Also, I've just counted and we have 12 7s! Four of them in the first 2 hands! So we have 5 down, 7 to go!

message 398: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments The April Mini-challenge has been posted! And it starts a little bit early, April 12th!

/topic/show/...

Basically, we've returned home from our travels, and now we're going to have a tea party with one other team.

We need to pick one other team's recipe (from the first month) and our tasks relate to that.
Recipes: /topic/show/...

Part 1:
Once we pick a recipe, we pick words in the recipe to spell-out (up to 15 letters, but must be full words).

Part 2:
We pick 15 words within the recipe to find on the cover of our books, or within the text.

Part 3:
Another story, with up to 15 titles!

Part 4:
I'll share our story with the other team, and we get extra points!

message 399: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Wow....this mini-challenge seems confusing.

message 400: by Laura (last edited Apr 11, 2020 09:14PM) (new)

Laura | 2892 comments We're going to go with the Innovation Shooting Star Jelly recipe and spell-out STRAWBERRIES (12 letters) and THE (3 letters).

The Recipe:
(view spoiler)

There are several uses of the word Strawberries, so if anyone has a book with strawberries on the cover or in the text we can still use it for the 2nd part.

We need to find, on covers or in text, 15 of the items/words in this recipe. So speak up and let us know what you've got. Any books not used for the spell-out or cover will be fair game for the story, so keep posting your books!

Usual spell-out rules apply, as well as Series name being allowed.
