Most Important Things to Remember
* Only books started after the challenge has begun can count for cards.
* All finished books must be marked as read and must be on your Uno shelf. Completion posts are required.
* When you finish a book, please post in the thread and make note of as many options as possible so we can switch the book around if necessary.
* Coloured covers need to be at least 50% of a colour. If you're unsure, please ask in the thread and the team will weigh in. If still unsure, then captains can take the question to the captains' group to get a final decision.
* Have fun!! It's a social challenge, so it can get chatty. And while we do want points and want to finish all our cards, this isn't supposed to be a competitive challenge. So enjoy your reading!

E and I are here and ready for the fun of UNO to begin!

I've been a co-captain on a few team challenges but this is my first time stepping up for UNO so be gentle with me.

I'm based in the UK and work part time, spending the rest of my time on the infinitely more energetic task of bring up a 2 year old. I'll read pretty much anything someone puts in front of me, but horror tends to be avoided.

Looking forward to getting to know you all through the challenge

Don't know what it is? You have been missing out! And your first task as a member of this will be to try a crème brûlée and tell us what you think ;-)





But alright, let's talk about more important things than desserts - even though the team names certainly are going to make that difficult hehe.

Please read the rules carefully, especially if you haven't played before. It looks more daunting than it is, I promise! Uno is really easy once you get started. If after reading the rules you still have questions, feel free to ask! Captains are here to help.



On our team spreadsheet, you can already see our cards for the month of February. Have a look, browse through your books, and see what kind of cover colours you can come up with that fit the cards ;-)

If you read a fabulous book recently, do let the team know! Maybe someone might like to pick that one up to read as a reverse?

Most importantly though - and then I'm going to stop rambling, I promise - HAVE FUN! Uno is a fun and social challenge with (usually) lots of chatter in the team threads.

I recently read The Institute by Stephen King, and it is amazing! Would totally recommend for a reverse card! :)

Most important thing (after the desserts) is to have fun! Come to the thread, chat and get involved.

1st tip is not to read anything with a cover that is over 50% red, blue, green or yellow until the challenge starts!

Other than that, I find keeping a list of the letters that correspond to each number helpful until I've looked at it so often while reading that it's drummed into my brain. It means that I consciously look for those tricky Z, O, I, V and E letters while reading. Though actually Z and O can also be dealt with by standalone books and 1st in series books so aren't such a problem.

Most books you read will fit onto one of the cards somewhere - the more card numbers you can tell us they match, the easier our job as captains is.

Linda Castillo, I Let Him Go by Denise Fergus and One Moment by Linda Green, and they were amazing! Would totally recommend for a reverse card!

Just looking at title and author name, it could fit for Skip or 6.

Denise Fergus is James Bulger's mother the two year old who was killed by the 2 ten year olds. This was her story about the case and her struggles for justice for her son.

That does ring a bell! Not sure that'd be something I'd like to read (I'm not big on biographies and memoirs and the like) but it does sound interesting and like a story that needs to be told.

Hello E, Sophie & the creme bruleers, from Celestial Baklava! Whilst I do love a creme brulee, I have to say that baklava is the better choice when reading - you can nibble on a piece and read at the same time, unlike the unruly brulee which might end up dolloped on your book! ;-P

Think of the crumbs from baklava all over the book though. The creamy crunchy mix of brulee is good.

Brings back fond memories of a friend who went through a phase of making a variety of different favoured creme brulees for us all to try

Any kind of baklava I've had always gave me sticky fingers as well, so that plus the crumbs is not so great a combination for reading books! ;-)

Still, a good choice of dessert, and I'm glad you were attributed this good dessert, Cat! :-D

I'd count Flight Risk: The Highs and Lows of Life as a Doctor at Heathrow Airport as a blue cover. Is there any way you could hold off reading it to see if we get a blue 4 in the next couple of months?

EDIT - just realised it will work for the Blue 0 card we have this month, so go for it!

I'm leaning to this being green (but might also be blue)

In case you can't tell my problem comes from where blue stops and green begins!

Yes, yes, this, Kate!

Go for the blue 0 book hehe. It's always good to get the colour cards out of the way as soon as possible so we don't have to worry about them for the rest of the month and can read whatever we want :-)

Thanks that matches what I was thinking. Not going to use Virgin River for red as it's not clear enough

I was just reading on another page you can use a website called and it will tell you the colour which is most prominent in a photo / cover. It's pretty cool actually, I just tried it and it worked! :)

We are no longer using Tineye because it can be a bit of a nuisance more than a help ;-)

We're going by eyeball. If the team can't decide on a colour, then we aren't using it.

Rule of thumb is that if you're unsure about a cover being >50% a certain colour, it usually won't work and it's easier to just skip it.

It's not a problem to look at it for personal interest, but I wouldn't rely on it.

I am planning on reading the following:

Ink & Bone by Rachel Caine for Reverse as Sophie has already read.
Then the Esther & Jack Enright series to go towards the other cards.

Ink and Bone is a good book! I actually need to finally pick up book #2.. Maybe maybe Uno is finally the time to do so.

I currently have books 1-3 on my tbr cart right now so who knows if I like the first one I might read the others.

I remember reading this ages ago and quite enjoying it. Not sure why I haven't picked up the second. Seems to happen with a lot of series, I think I need to improve my tracking of what I want to do with subsequent books in series after I read the first.

Hello hello on this lovely Friday! Lovely not because of the grey weather but because it's finally Friday! ;-)

Next to my doorstop (The Priory of the Orange Tree), I'm definitely also going to read for one of the 6 Blue cards with . It's been a while since I spent some time in the Psy-Changeling world and I can hear them calling.

Besides, the next book in the series has a red cover, which will most certainly come in handy for Uno as well hehe.

For our Feb cards the colour covers we are looking for are:

Green 2 (T) Sophie Strangers in Death
Blue 6 (S) E Allegiance of Honor (or 9)
Blue 6 (S) Sophie Murder at the Vicarage
Blue 0 (Z) Kate F Flight Risk: The Highs and Lows of Life as a Doctor at Heathrow Airport
Green 1 (O)
Blue 9 (N)
Red 2 (T)

Duplicate 4 of these (one via Draw 2 already done)

Let us know any of these you can cover and if possible we'd love it if they were the first books you read for this month. The letters in brackets are what is need in terms of title, author, location or character to fit that task. Otherwise we're looking for the series number or the number in the title.

This list is also going to be at the top of the thread in one of my reserved posts so if you want to check back later, that's the place to go.

Oh and if a book works for more than 1 letter please let us know that as well!
