Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Now that we've got settled into how the UNO portion of the challenge runs, the mods have released the first mini-challenge here

Please can you all take a look and think about where the books you're reading at the moment (so long as you finish after the countdown) might fit or what you've got on your shelves coming up.

message 309: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Only books FINISHED after the start date of the mini challenge will count for the mini challenge.

This book can be started at any point since Uno started, but it will only count if it was FINISHED after has gone to 0, which is in about 10ish hours.

message 310: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments If you're currently reading a book that will perfectly fit for the mini challenge, you might want to hold off finishing it until after the deadline ;-)

Please read the rules carefully. I know there is a lot of text. Read it anyway ;-) Understand the rules that are mentioned.

If you have questions, Sophie and I are here to answer them for you :-)

And most importantly: have fun!!

Oh no! I saw this after I finished!

message 313: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Don't worry Sharon! If everyone carries on reading like they have been we shouldn't have a problem filling all the tasks

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Sophie wrote: "Don't worry Sharon! If everyone carries on reading like they have been we shouldn't have a problem filling all the tasks"

What she said ;-)

message 315: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ok so I think I can claim the "circle" task with my current read: Allegiance of Honor (Psy-Changeling #15) by Nalini Singh

There are two circles on the cover :-)

It also works for plenty of the words, such as touch, just to name one of them.

message 316: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments A murder at the vicarage will work for airtight - Miss Marple obviously produces an airtight case!

The Power will work for a variety of things - lady, electric and touch spring to mind so far.

message 317: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Oh, you've started!

What do you think of the book so far? I'll have to eventually get back to it in order to finish it.

message 318: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I'm only a couple of chapters in so the jury is still out. My library copy came free so waiting isn't an option unfortunately

message 319: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Any books you finish from now (or actually a couple of hours ago) can be used for the mini-challenge.

Please give us lots of options when saying where a book could work if you can so we can juggle things that only fit one or two

Can also be used for sharp on the mini challenge due to one of the characters tires being popped by a sharp Japanese paper knife.

message 331: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I'm 50% through The Power. Not entirely grabbed by it, but not struggling through either. If there hadn't been so much hype I might be enjoying it more.

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments How's everyone doing this wet and wild weekend?

message 333: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments It's been surprisingly dry this weekend, despite the rain they've announced for today. So I've been out for a while this morning, hiding books in a few book cabins over the countryside.

Yesterday I spent reading and doing a few chores. I'll do some washing today and spend the rest of the day reading as well. Just a chill weekend.

What about you?

message 334: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments It's been raining solidly here since yesterday mid-afternoon. Having the MiL staying at least means I don't have a feral toddler. Sounds like you've had a lovely morning.

We've managed to board our attic for storage and I've got a bit of studying done.

Feel free to send some over ;-)

I've been lazing instead of reading haha. Worse still, I put on Sex and the City. It's been ages since I've watched the series and it's kind of sucking me back in.

Kate (kaaate) | 78 comments HELP!

Hiya team! Really struggling with this book..

The Library of the Unwritten (Hell's Library #1) by A.J. Hackwith

But it can cover (Hand 3) Draw 2, 3 and Wild, if I keep going honestly it'll probably be the only book I'll read for the rest of the month.. I can do that to get them Cards covered or I'll scrap it and cover some other Cards..

Question is; what would you all prefer? I don't mind either way, but as I say if I keep going with this, most likely the last book I can do this month.

Can anyone else cover those cards?

Advice please! :)

message 345: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Any book that works to cover a 3 can cover all those cards so please don't worry about it. If you aren't enjoying it, I'd say ditch it and find something you do enjoy.

Something I'm reading can cover it, if not I'm sure we'll be able to juggle stuff

PHEW, I was worried it would have been one of the those we'd have to complete!

I'm ditching, I'll start another book tonight, I'll try and pick it back up after the challenges :)

Thanks Sophie!

message 347: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Yeah, no worries. :-)

If you feel like you'd prefer not to read this now or finish it at all, then drop it. No use forcing yourself through just for the sake of a challenge if you don't enjoy the book!

message 348: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments It's Baking Time!!

Sophie already started - now the rest of the team needs to follow ;-)

The second part of the February mini challenge is this:

"But wait... there's more!

Have your team create a recipe for your team name and submit via message to the UNO Pixie by Feb 29 to receive an additional 30 bonus points."

Would you guys like to bake a cake? Cookies? Make an extra special crème brûlée? Maybe something savoury instead? Maybe you have a completely different idea?

Let us hear it! :-D

(PS: No, we don't actually have to make this and provide photographic evidence haha.)

message 349: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Given it's a recipe for our team name I'd lean towards a creme brulee that is out of this world!

message 350: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments And it'd be easy enough actually.

The sugar that goes on top just needs a little food colouring and then you could easily (I assume haha) create a galactic / nebula effect.
