Theres a readathon going on right now for a different thing so Im hoping to get through 4 books this weekend!

April Mini Challenge

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players. This month we are joining another team for a bake-off!

In February, you assembled your space treats and in March you embarked on your space travel. So now it is time to come back home and have a tea party with your new found treats.

�� You can choose any recipe from a different team (/topic/show/...). With that recipe in hand you need to decide as a team how to eat their treat. You do this by:
�� picking word(s) from that team's recipe to "spell-it-out" you can do this with up to 15 letters (they need to be complete words, not only spelling partial words)
�� picking word(s) from that team's recipe that you can find on the cover of books or as words in text. You can do this with up to 15 words
�� deciding what else you would like to serve at the tea party. Complete the story on the spreadsheet using book titles. (15 words) This is the story of your tea party in your own words. Be as creative as you like. You can use as much or as little of a title as you see fit.

�� Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 10 points.

�� If you complete all your requirements for a tea party, your team will receive 30 bonus points.

�� Share your tea party with the team that created the recipe you were given for an additional 10 points. (This means posting to their thread your tea party story)

�� Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
�� Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on April 12, 7pm AEST (countdown is here) and before May 1 at 7pm AEST (Countdown to the end of April is here)

Im slacking on the mini; but here it is. Everyone check out the recipes and see which one you think would be good!! The spell it out is up to 15 letters so, we can use multiple words but only 15 letters if that makes sense.

Reading has been going okay for me. I'm chugging along. I've had a few more dnfs, but I also feel like I'm getting into a routine. Now, I just need to decide what book out of the three I have on my currently reading list to start reading today.

Also, I'm still a little confused on the 15 letters part. But I think the galactic creme brulee recipe seems like it would be nice to use. There recipe seems to have a lot of elaboration and words. Also, I just really love creme brulee, lol.

I’m happy to go with their recipe. Not gonna lie, I’m confused AF over the mini challenge haha. But I’ve put the book I was going to read back so I can pick one that works.

I also need to update the sheet with the books I’ve read!

I think we have to spell out a word with the aspects of one book. Like the word “the�� - author theresa, title heather, character ellen

Ok so a spell it out, a word find, and a story we write like the last challenge?

Ok, my understanding is we pick words that equal to at least 15 letters and spell those few words out as a team, so it’s not like we have to pick 15 words each and spell it out! So we have to decide what words we want to spell out. I feel a little less stressed haha.

@Kelly and Kaylee Ooph, that's a lot more books! But, it'd make sense that we only have to pick a few words to work on together.

I checked clarification in the captains chat so it’s not like I figured it out myself haha.

On a different note, my kobo ereader should be here shortly. As in, the next half hour or so!! I’m soooooooooo excited. There’s been issues with the supplier so I’m not convinced I’m going to get a brand new one (as opposed to trying to fob me off with an ex display - they’d totally do that) so I’m waiting in breathless anticipation whilst preparing for abject disappointment.

ITS BRAND NEW AND SO SHINY. I found my mojo again

I’ve read two books in the last two days! The kobo has definitely helped! Now to see how they’ll fit into the challenge. Have we picked out our recipe words yet?

Eh these are strange times!! We’ve had some good news - our extremely strict lockdown is getting lifted next week and we’ll move to a slightly less restrictive lockdown. Nothing changes for me since I’m still stuck at home, but businesses that can ensure their staff are socially distancing can open and food delivery can start so long as the food places can socially distance staff or they live in the same house. Good news for family owned food places!! Unfortunately preschool is still shut haha.

Sad news - our family kitty cat who lives with mum (who lives next door) has gone to the big windowsill in the sky today. She was 18, so she did REALLY well but she was really, really sick - even though she was still happy and content and purring. So not much reading done today.

I’ll be updating my books tomorrow, so if you like Kaylee I can start looking at the mini challenge? Unless you’ve started - I’ve not actually looked haha.

Finally getting a streak back. Not as great as other months but feeling better!!

Yay! Finished my book! I marked it on here and on the sheet. I have a question though. I’m currently starting a kindle book but here’s the question/dilemma: One kindle copy is 384 pages because it’s the Amazon copy. The copy I’m reading is from Lume Books and is only 188 pages. They’re both full size copies. But mine is 188 pages because it’s the Kindle app for iPad. Would this still count?

Okay. I just wasn’t sure where ebooks stood in the challenge and I wanted to make sure. Hubby got me an iPad for books.

Also a friend of a friend told me a trick - when looking for books on Amazon for the kindle, in the search type in: FREE DOMAIN

You’ll get a whole list of free books. This works for iBooks as well.

I have gone completely off track from what I was planning to read. XD I keep picking up books that aren't the ones I originally decided to read next.

Also, I've been using Libby. It's kind of cool being able to check out books on my kindle, try them out, and return them if I don't like them. Read a couple already that I was surprised I really liked. I would have probably never given them a chance if they weren't free through the library.

I’ve found the same! And I’m also more likely to DNF I’d they’re utter garbage which is good too. Overdrive is built into my kobo store so I’ve got the option to rent or buy. It’s a bit harder to find free books but they’re there.

Hey all! Here are the books I got through this month, with only a few days left I don't know if I'll finish the one I'm currently on at the moment. Even with social distancing and working from home, I still had a hard time getting into reading even through theoretically I had all the time in the world to do it!

Thanks again for being such an awesome group during this time, I know I wasn't as vocal in the comments as I would have liked to have been, reading through your posts put some smiles on my face when there's been a lot of negatives out there. So thanks for that :)

I completely get it. I've always been struggling to read. This quarantine really hasn't helped much despite giving me so much more time at home to read, lol.

Also, school keeps swamping me in more stuff. They seem to think that since we're all home they can double the work load. -sighs- So, I don't think I'm going to get many more books done before this month is over. I'm going try to get at least one done.

Thank you all so much for the wonderful time! This challenge has really been a blast and all of you have been so great. I had a lot of fun with you guys.

I'll update my info to the sheet tomorrow. Sorry - I've been crazy with driving across country, helping my parents pack to move halfway across the county, and now we are heading out Thursday to the new location.

I’ll be updating over the next 24 hours too. Not that I’ve done much! It’s been a very difficult month, being in lockdown with two high needs kids and a shift working husband. I’m tired right up into next week haha.

I’m so tired and exhausted that I literally asked my mother if the offer to knock me into next year was still valid 😂😂

I really missed uno last year. I’m sad that this year has been kinda messed up with everything going on, but I’m totally in next year!!

Same here. I think it got messed up and it’s nothing any moderator or team leader or team member did. A lot of struggled to all of a sudden make new schedules and home schooling kids demanded a lot of our time more than we anticipated.

Yes!! It’s been such a sudden change, and I know my ability to snatch time to read took a huge hit.

Yea, same here. I've really been struggling to find free time to read. I somehow had MORE free time when I was driving to school/working part time then I do now that I'm home all the time. RIP

I managed to get some free time to read but only got through one chapter before I dozed off lol

Yea, I was able to get any more books done, but still, I think we did awesome! I felt like this really helped me be productive and get a lot of reading done.
