The Important Bits
Only books started after the official start of UNO count for cards.

All books must be marked as read and posted to your UNO shelf.

Completion posts are required, please provide as many options as possible so that we can switch books as necessary.

For the dreaded colour cards we are NOT required to use "tineye". If you are unsure if your your book meets the 50% requirement, ask in this thread for consensus. If there is still uncertainty we will take it to the Captain’s where their decision is binding.
Red Covers
Blue Covers
Green Covers
Yellow Covers

Most importantly have fun, this is a social challenge and things can get quite chatty. While we do want to complete our cards and get as many points as we can, this needs to remain fun. All we ask is that you post at least once a week with how you are doing and let us know if any issues that you are having.

Louise | 1282 comments Hi Everyone and Welcome. I’m Louise and along with Elen and Abigail we will be guiding you through the delectable sweet delights of UNO.

I live in South Wales with my OH and 3yr old spaniel Cross. This is my fourth time playing UNO and is probably one of my favourite team challenges. I enjoy reading pretty much anything, although Science Fiction is really not my thing. I am trying to whittle down my TBR but it seems to be forever growing. I work in a busy accounts payables department and reading in all it’s forms is my therapy. There’s nothing like curling up and delving into another world.

Elen | 746 comments Hey everyone!

I'm Elen and I'm from Estonia. This is my 3rd time playing and being co-captain. I'm currently trying to write my Biomedicine Master's thesis, but before that, I should finish lab work.
My go-to genres are fantasy, horror/thriller, and sci-fi. And romance is my least favourite of them all.
I haven't yet decided what I'm going to read, but let be honest I have plenty of time to do that.
An interesting fact about me: Most of the time I read in English, but sometimes when I feel like I need something different I read in Estonian or Russian.

Don't forget to add your UNO shelf.

Also, introduce yourself: who are you? where you are from? Have you played UNO before? Go-to genres? Last year favourite book aka recommendations? etc.

Robyn (robyn_r) | 87 comments Hi, I am Robyn from New Jersey. This is my first time playing UNO and it looks like a lot of fun! Plus, I have the added benefit of decreasing my TBR pile (Who am I kidding. For every book read I always wind up adding 5 more!)

My go-to genres are thrillers, mysteries, historical fiction, romance, women's fiction, some sci-fi and some YA (depending on the story)

Hmm, A favorite recommendation from last year? Our Last Goodbye by Shirley Dickson Not My Daughter by Kate Hewitt

I can't wait to get started! I have already been working on my lists.

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 419 comments Hi all! I'm Sarah! This is my third time playing UNO and I am sooooo excited. This is my favorite challenge of the year and I can't wait to compete with all of you! I am from Ferndale, MI! I'm a social worker, and I do one on one psychotherapy for the elderly in nursing homes.
I'll read anything, but my go-to genres are romance, fiction, fantasy, some YA, and sci-fi. Lately autobiographical and nonfiction aren't doing it for me (I think with some of the things I see/hear at work, I've been seeking HEAs for balance). I'll have to think about favorite books for last year ... I read a lot last year so there's a bunch to choose from.

Ashley Karczewski (ashleylorna) | 152 comments Hi Everyone! I’m Ashley and I’m from Newcastle, England. I believe this is my fourth year playing UNO! I really can’t wait to get started!

I love reading a vast genre of books but I’d say I mostly favour sci-fi/fantasy/romance over others. Looking forward to seeing what you all choose to read over the next three months and no doubt many of them will work their way into my ever growing to-be-read pile!

abigail (abigaillo) | 2 comments hi, my name's abigail! i'm originally from a suburb of Washington, DC called Silver Spring, MD, but right now, i'm a freshman at Fordham University in Manhattan, NYC. i'm a double major in theatre performance and humanitarian studies with a possible minor in peace & justice studies, and my career goals are either acting in NYC or doing some human rights activism, specifically focused on transitional justice.

this is my first time playing UNO, and i'm so excited to help out as your co-captain. my favorite genre used to be YA, but i think i'm growing out of that, which is slightly terrifying because that's how i defined my reading taste. now, i would have to go with sci-fi, fantasy, and some YA / NA depending on the content. favorite book i read last year has to be Giovanni’s Room, and James Baldwin has very quickly become one of my favorite authors.

Louise | 1282 comments Hi Everyone, so many new faces, while we’re waiting to start take a look at our cards for February either on the spreadsheet or in msg 6

We have 7 coloured cards to fill plus an additional 2 from the Wild Draw 4. Reds and Yellows in the main. We also have 7 Reverse cards, a book that a team member has read. If you are able to read for any of these cards let us know.

@Sarah, don’t forget your UNO shelf 😊

message 20: by abigail (new)

abigail (abigaillo) | 2 comments i just did a brief look over the books everyone's read, and i added a ton of books to my shelf that other people have read & i'd be down to read. the one exception is Strange the Dreamer -- i added that because Elen read the sequel (Muse of Nightmares), but Strange the Dreamer could actually work for the 7 Yellow card, so it all works out.

That’s a good one to use in Hand Nine where we have a Draw 2, Wild Draw 4 and a Reverse Card.

megan | 268 comments Hi everyone! I’m Megan. I currently live in the Indianapolis, IN area, but am originally from Ohio. This is my second time playing UNO. I’ve not participated more in the past because my family and I usually do some international travel during February or March, making reading enough and checking in a problem. We will be doing the same this year (some Central America), but I still really wanted to play. Luckily, my phone is provided by my employer, so all international charges are billed to them.

I’m an engineer in the aerospace industry. My day to day work revolves around turbines/turbofan engines used in civil aviation.

My go-to genres are thriller/suspense/mystery, any kind of non-fiction, and historical fiction thought I’m determined to avoid European based WW2 historical fiction this year. Generally, I prefer books with a third person point of view. And I try to avoid religious themed books at all costs.

I use Kindle Unlimited and Scribd. If anyone uses either of these and knows of or finds books that work for any of our tasks, let me know! I do a lot of audiobooks when I’m stuck at my desk or in the lab. I don’t base my reading on my ŷ TBR list at all. I end up forgetting what’s on there.

bamaace83 | 257 comments Hey everyone! My name is Anna. I pretty much love to read anything except sci-fi but I'll read that if I have to. Romance, thrillers, and suspense are what I go for first. This is my second year of playing Uno and I'm super excited to be playing it again.

[Past years I have read almost all colour card, so now I don't have any.] In a week time or more I'm going to the library, maybe I will find than something to read for colour, but I'm not promising anything right now.

Are the claimed colors/books supposed to be posted on the tracking spreadsheet or are we just claiming them on here?

You can add there and there or in one place, but I want to track all colour cards so at the end of the month we won't be missing something and also, everyone can see what we still need and what not.

Yellow card is usually the hardest to find if you can find something for yellow 8 or 9, would be awesome

Louise | 1282 comments Apologies for my absence all. I had a family funeral to attend.

Just a quick note there is an error in our tracking post above, our Yellow cards are:

5,
7,
8.

@Megan, are you able to find a coloured book for one of the other cards.

Can I remind you all to post how your book will fit the coloured card if not immediately obvious. We can use:
Series #
First initial of Title
First or Last initial of author/ narrator (need to have read the audio version)
First initial of Location.
