Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9652 comments Steph has this Supernatural A-Z [2015] reading challenge next year and some of the letter are pretty challenging.

I was wondering if I could have a helping hand with books or series featuring characters other than the usual vampire and werewolves. I have nothing against them but it does not help me for the reading challenge.

Any suggestions?

I'll start!

Steph (angel4492) | 32592 comments Great idea, Val! Thanks for creating this thread. :D

Remember, for the A-Z game, you can use 'HH' (Helping Hand) in 5 different spots, if you're unable to find a supernatural creature/being to use.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 145 comments For a variety of shifters, fae, vampires, demons, and witches, the Others series by Christine Warren. She has a new series with gargoyles. Both series are PNR. Another author with a variety of shifters is Shelly Laurenston (including Arctic foxes, hyenas, honey badgers, and hybrids). PNR. Dana Marie Bell's Gray Court series has vampires and a wide variety of fae (pookahs, hobgoblins, sylphs, selkie, mermaids, etc.)-also PNR.

Steph (angel4492) | 32592 comments Here are some I've found (sorry for any dupes):
I'll add more as I come across them

~ J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood has SYMPATHS and SHADOWS
~ Karen Chance's Cassandra Palmer is CLAIRVOYANT and Dorina Basarab is a DHAMPIR
~ Stacia Kane's Downside/Chessie is a CHURCHWITCH
~ Bridig Kemmerer's Merrick brothers are ELEMENTALS (earth, air, fire, water)

~ SIRENs can be found in:
S.J. Harper's Fallen Siren series & Keri Arthur's Souls of Fire series.

~ Melissa Olson's Scarlett Bernard is a NULL (no magic works around her)
~ Virna DePaul's Para-Ops series has a WRAITH, SHAMAN, WEREBEAST, & VAMPIRE
~ M.J. Scott's Half-Light City (Shadow Kin) has a WRAITH & SUNMAGE
~ I think Phaedra Weldon's Zoe Martinique Investigations series and Sophie Renwick's Immortals of Annwyn series also have WRAITHs

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 1009 comments The Elemental Assassin Series by Jennifer Estep

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9652 comments The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker The Golem and the Jinni is a stand alone book, very well written.

Gargoyle Jennifer Armentrout's The Dark Elements

message 18: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) Haven't found a book with a Q creature. It looks like there is only one I found looking up A-Z paranormal creatures, a Quanlier. I would look at Native American shifter books.
(In Cherokee legend, a Quanlier has the head of a wolf, the torso of a man, the arms of a dog and the legs of a jackal. It feeds on human flesh and most small animals. Living in a small area there are very few, in fact there may be only one. It’s a close relation to a werewolf, only it can’t change into a human and when it’s killed it doesn’t turn into a human. It can run at speeds of up to 300 MPH.)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) Thanks I'll keep looking.

Q animals:
Questing Beast - appears in many arthurian stories, including The Once and Future King. (Might not be technically PNR/UF, but there's definitely romance and the supernatural involved!)

Quetzalcoatl - an Aztec/Mesoamerican god, form of a giant winged serpent. Also, quetzl or quecal - winged serpents. Two Serpents Rise - used by magic users for transportation.

Qliphoth/Qlippoth/Qelippot or Kelipot - evil spirits from Jewish mysticism.

Handy reference:
