Ann What books are you reading in this category? What recommendations do you have? Are you reading a book by an author who is under 30 now or under 30 when they wrote the book?

message 2: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (lynnali) I took it to mean under 30 when they wrote the book, though I do not know what I'm reading for it yet.

message 4: by Julia (last edited May 12, 2015 04:10AM) (new)

Julia (_mj_howard) | 57 comments I read "The Tiger's Wife" by Téa Obreht and found the writing fantastic but got lost at several points in the story.

message 5: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (lvinny123) | 10 comments The bell Jar. I am looking forward to it. This is the perfect year for this prompt as I am turning 30.

Fiend

I am currently in the middle of this one.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

My book for this was Justine's Blood by Max Kirin. I'm not entirely sure how old he is, but I know that he's young.

message 8: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidi28) I'll be reading Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

She's currently 30 (about to turn 31 according to Wikipedia), but she was 28 when Cinder was published so I'll let myself have it!

message 9: by Angela (new)

Angela | 19 comments I read Looking for alaska by John Green and Speechless by Hannah Harrington. I loved both of them.

message 10: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jcreamer) | 20 comments I read Insurgent by Veronica Roth. She was 24 when it was published. It took me a while to get into it, but after it picked up I loved it. I feel that way about the second books in a series quite often.

I read Insurgent immediately after finishing Divergent, so that wasn't the case for me, but I sometimes feel like the first book of a series is like the passionate flames of the first few months of love and then the love burns down to hot coals for the later books. If the author did their job right, there is still some warmth by the time you finish the last book of the series.

message 12: by Alexis (new)

Alexis O (saboknits) | 76 comments I just finished listening to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxay by Douglas Adams. He was 27 years old when the book was published in 1979. Read by Stephen Fry, it was a lot of fun.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, #1) by Douglas Adams

message 17: by Karen (new)

message 18: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Johnson (mascaratomidnight) | 85 comments The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1) by Samantha Shannon

This is a series but I didnt like it enough to read anything else.

It could have been really good...the premise was unique...but it fell flat. Only slightly entertaining.

message 19: by Shirley J (new)

Shirley J (fastreader) | 28 comments Indian Creek Chronicles A Winter Alone in the Wilderness by Pete Fromm by Pete Fromm.

He spent 7 months living in the wilderness when he was a college student. Easily read in a day and an interesting memoir about the trial and errors of living and surviving with minimal supplies, comfort and safety.

message 20: by Ray (new)

Ray Jordan (rjordan1041) Call of the Wild. Jack London was in his 20s when he wrote it.

message 21: by CherD (new)

CherD (cheryde) I read Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle, #1) by Christopher Paolini Eragon, by Christopher Paolini several years back. The author was under 20 when he wrote the first of this series. I believe I will try to find my copy of the second in the series (so many of my books are still packed after a move a couple of years ago) Eldest (The Inheritance Cycle, #2) by Christopher Paolini Eldest, which he wrote while still under 30.

message 22: by Megan (new)

Sara Michelle, I did enjoy Frankenstein! Classics can be a struggle for me sometimes so there were a few spots that dragged, but overall I enjoyed it!

message 26: by GailW (new)

GailW (abbygg) The Tigers Wife by Tea Obrecht. I liked it but feel I have missed something. Need to read again

message 27: by Jazs (new)

Jazs Had trouble with this one, I was going through my To-read list here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ with my calculator trying to find something that I'd already saved as a to-read before realizing I'd already read one - A Sicilian Romance by Ann Radcliffe.

message 29: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Johnson (mascaratomidnight) | 85 comments I read The Bell Jar for the category: A popular author's first novel.

I found it very interesting and chaotic. I liked that it was semi autobiographical. But where Sylvia started and ended, I dont know.

message 30: by Nicole (new)

Nicole I've been struggling with a book for this prompt. I finally found a lesser known book/author, How To Be A Good Wife by Emma Chapman. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds.

Emily (emilyesears) I read Rosie Dunne by Cecilia Ahern. She was 24 when it was published back in 2005.

message 32: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I read Vaclev and Lena by Haley Tanner for this prompt.

message 33: by J. (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) I read The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. Obviously, I read a book by an author who was under 30 when she wrote the book.

message 36: by Guylian (new)

Guylian Finally finished - with interruptions Marina Keegan "Das Gegenteil von Einsamkeit" "The Opposite of Loneliness"

message 37: by Melody (last edited Oct 12, 2015 02:24PM) (new)

Melody | 208 comments I read The Rules of Attraction, written by Bret Easton Ellis when he was only 23 years old. It very much seems like the kind of novel someone would write just after they get out of college, a book dripping with unaffeced ennui about a group of wealthy liberal arts students who do drugs and have sex with eachother. I'm not sure exactly how much I liked it, tbh. The writing was good, but it somehow felt sympathetically nihilistic and moralistically condescending at the same time. If you're interested in reading The Rules of Attraction, you could also count it for 3. Turned into a Film or 34. Love Triangle, oh so many love triangles and rhombuses and dodecahedrons.

Kerryann Franklin | 61 comments I read Bridgevine by John Feldman
