It's time to nominate your choice for our June 2020 group fiction read - please use this thread to nominate.

Nominations start today and will close on 15th May.

During this time anybody can nominate and second one book each. You cannot second the book you have nominated. The 6 books with the most second votes at the end of the 7 day nomination period will go into the poll. There are no limits to the number of seconds a book can receive.

The poll will then run until the 22nd May and the winner will be announced shortly after. I hope this will leave everybody with enough time to obtain the chosen book.

Please also check that your chosen nomination hasn't been a group read in the past. You can do this by looking at the group bookshelf, contact one of the moderators or post on 'Ask the Moderators' thread

If you have any questions on the nominations process please contact me, use the 'Ask the Moderators' thread or post on here and we will be happy to help.

I love Alice Hoffman and this comes close to being her best.

That would be more suited for our classic group read Keshav.

You can only nominate one book Janet, this title would be seen as two separate books, 1984 has already been a classic group read.

I would like to nominate A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende. I've seen a lot of 4 and 5 star friend reviews, and I saw it was on BBC's best 10 of 2020 so far list. Been a long time since I've read Allende, but maybe it's time for another?

That one is VERY long--I read it--but it is also broken up into 3 books, so what if you nominate just the first one? The three books were written at different times.

What if you just put in this part of it?
The Man Without Qualities: Volume I which is only 725 pages?

If, and only if, it is changed to this then I will second it, but I won't reread it as I didn't like it enough, but I remember quite a bit about it as I read it in the fall of 2018.

Normally I would say this is probably better for our classic group read but I will accept it as it's less than one hundred years old.

No need to apologize Janet! Thanks for the nomination - the group is more fun when people are active and tell us what they want to read. :) I have read it several times already, but this book is excellent!

Geoffreyjen (gedsy) | 126 comments I’m good with doing just volume 1 of The Man Without Qualities. I have a version with all three in one and have been working through it slowly. I didn’t realize it was also published in separate volumes. I thought a group read might be a way for me to accelerate, and also discuss, as there is a lot of subtlety here. I do enjoy the writing. Breaking it up into pieces also makes it more manageable for me!

message 32: by Geoffreyjen (new)

Geoffreyjen (gedsy) | 126 comments What are the rules for seconding a book? Can I second more than one?

No, you can only second one Geoffrey.
