Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Over the weekend I purchased Tim Robbins audio version of fahrenheit 451 and it has been probably decades since I last read it. That book is amazingly awesome. I still love it.

The thing I love about this book is while there is not a ton of character development nor second guessing what the author is saying. It is all there, people have settled for this idea of mediocrity and we don't need new ideas or to have knowledge to find happiness just watch tv and talk about tv and not so much about anything else and you will be happy.

After re-reading this classic I am just grateful I live in a world where I can read what I want and I have interesting people to talk to about what I read regardless of if it is a steamy romance or hard hitting political science or sociology.

message 6: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) The last book of 2014 that I completed was The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch . I also read and finished Darkness Falls (Dark Angels, #7) by Keri Arthur , though that overlapped 2014 and 2015. Now I'm reading a science fiction book, Undercity (Major Baahjan, #1) by Catherine Asaro .

Mary Corbal | 1 comments Hi! I´m reading Mourn Not Your Dead, by Deborah Crombie. Last year I read all the novels by Elizabeth George, the series about Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 127 comments Free Agent (Grimm Agency, #1) by J.C. Nelson was dull and it was definitely not the book to kick the year off. Especially while trying to escape a reading funk.

Just started up Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins and it's really fun!

message 10: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Finished Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh and am totally hooked! Can't wait to listen to the next one.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 127 comments Wrapped up Maggie for Hire (Maggie MacKay, Magical Tracker, #1) by Kate Danley , enjoyed the humor. Not much else to it.

Starting up Endless Knight (The Arcana Chronicles, #2) by Kresley Cole ! Yeah!

message 16: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Finished Valkyrie's Conquest by Sharon Ashwood which was really cute glad to see Sharon Ashwood back.

I also finished Dark Currents (Agent of Hel, #1) by Jacqueline Carey whcih was good and The Scarecrow King by Jill Myles it is PNR in the magic parts but mostly it is a retelling of the King Thrushbeard fairy tale, she did an awesome job really different from her normal PNR stuff.

message 17: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4721 comments Just finished Shield of Winter (Psy-Changeling, #13) by Nalini Singh and thought it was really good.

I know its been out for a while but the pb has just been published *Yay* so I finally got to read it.

Kudos to you for your restraint! And I am glad you liked it.

message 19: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4721 comments LOL. Yeah, not like I was hurting for books. I looked the other day and my tbr was over 3800, with only 590 being wishlist, so I own the rest.

So distraction was easy to come by.

message 20: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Finished Lonely Alpha (Half Moon Shifters, #1) by Ranae Rose and Ironskin (Ironskin, #1) by Tina Connolly

Currently listening to Midnight Crossroad (Midnight, Texas, #1) by Charlaine Harris which is not all that good and The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison which has gotten a little depressing I feel so bad for him and last but not least reading Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, #1) by C.E. Murphy which is really good so far!

message 21: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Dawn, I really enjoyed Urban Shaman, well the whole series really. Likeable heroine and secondary characters made for a solid series that deserves more attention.

I've been on a bit of a historical fiction kick lately having read The Greatest Knight (William Marshal, #2) by Elizabeth Chadwick and currently reading The Tudor Secret (The Spymaster Chronicles, #1) by C.W. Gortner - though I'm starting to get annoyed by the main character. My mind is starting to wander, thinking about what I can read next.

message 22: by Milica (new)

Milica Jankovic | 3 comments Just finished reading Chaos and still in a daze.. :D

message 23: by Tina (new)

Tina Bartz | 675 comments I am currently reading Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #3) by Sherrilyn Kenyon , in
The Dark-Hunters The Collection Thus Far (Dark-Hunter, #1-21) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . I bought the collection when it was on sale. It has been so long since I read the early Dark-Hunter books I thought I should refresh my memory before (re-)reading the BOM, Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter, #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

message 24: by LastBreath (new)

LastBreath (last_breath) | 241 comments I know I'm sinking fast with literature overload, and run the risk of completely twisting up the different storylines, but for the last few days I've been reading -

Vampire Knight, Vol. 1 (Vampire Knight, #1) by Matsuri Hino , a Manga that I had started reading online years ago. Our local library has finally invested in the complete series, so yay, nostalgia much!

Immortal Beloved (Immortal Beloved, #1) by Cate Tiernan , or in my case, a re-read.

Drowning Mermaids (Sacred Breath, #1) by Nadia Scrieva , a delightful tale between a Mermaid and an Alaskan crab boatman. At first I thought it was YA-ish. But the more I get into it, the faster I'm learning that it may be better suited for a mature group or readers. I dunno.

message 25: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) I'm reading Tangled Threads (Elemental Assassin, #4) by Jennifer Estep ...really enjoying this series.

message 26: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Started listening to Magic Lost, Trouble Found (Raine Benares #1) by Lisa Shearin - new author for me.

message 27: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I haven't posted here in ages. Just finished up Pleasure of a Dark Prince (Immortals After Dark, #9) by Kresley Cole Trying to do two of these a month to get caught up. It's not really working though. (I keep getting caught up with murder mysteries.) Enjoyed this installement. Garreth was yummy and the girl was one of my favorite heroines in the series so far.

Currently listening to The Damned by Andrew Pyper and it's super good. About a guy who dies and comes back and it's haunted by his evil, dead sister's ghost. Super creepy. Good audio.

message 28: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4721 comments Finished High Stakes (Bo Blackman, #3) by Helen Harper another good addition to the series.

Lacie | 5 comments Lately i've found ive been liking this dystopian ganra of books I've been reading Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth and about half way through. I've seen the movie and i have to say it is sooo different from the movie it's like a totally different story! :)

message 34: by Angie (last edited Feb 22, 2015 04:54PM) (new)

Angie | 419 comments I'm reading Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop , and though I'm not far into it, I thought I'd get a little hint of romance by now. IS this a PNR series, or UF with romance? I could have sworn I'd seen mention of Meg being involved with someone, but I can't find it now. I like the book either way, though it took me a few chapters to get into it.

There are hints at romance, but it is secondary to the world building, characterization and plot. Its more UF than PNR.

I tried starting this and I'm having trouble getting into it. Not for any lack of romance but just not feeling any of the characters yet. It's still very early going but I'm feeling my attention starting to wane.

message 37: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Lauren, I think I've gotten a little glimpse of someone having some feelings they aren't quite realizing are romantic, because romance isn't something they've experienced.

Veronica, I was the same way, having a hard time feeling the characters out. I'm still not sure where a couple people fit in to the world, and a new wolf introduced every couple chapters is just confusing, but it's gotten better with most of the main characters. At least for me.

message 38: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I absolutely loved the book and it was one of my favorites of 2014. Rather than going on and on, here's the link to my review where anyone who wants to read about me going on and on can, lol!

I'll wait until I'm done to read it, I have a way of finding spoilers even where the writer of the review doesn't realize they've left any! My head is trying to argue with the weather so my day of reading may be shot. I'm about to try to sweet talk it into calming down, with the help of some yummy Excedrin! ;-)

message 40: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I loved that book and yes it started off a bit odd but it does get better for what it is worth

message 41: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4721 comments I really loved it too. It was a bit different to the same old, same old.

message 42: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I won't say anything spoiler-ish, since Veronica is hopefully still reading Written in Red, or maybe she passed me up and finished it already. But I ended up LOVING it!! I was white knuckling my kindle throughout the last quarter of the book I think! And I must say, I'm going to be much nicer to our horses lol!! I got an ARC of Blood Games (Chicagoland Vampires, #10) by Chloe Neill , and then a book in a favorite wolf shifter/ motorcycle club series came out today, so I'll be reading Claiming His Beauty (Feral Breed Motorcycle Club #4) by Ellis Leigh after Blood Games. THEN ill be reading Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) by Anne Bishop . Not long after that, the new one from a the Others will be out, but I may wait a while on it, for the price to come down. I'm cheap!!

Haha, I had to put it aside for a bit because I have to finish my buddy recommendation book first. I'm glad to hear that you did end up enjoying it. Hopefully I'll have a similar experience.

message 44: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I totally got mixed up on which Chicagoland book in reading!! It's actually Dark Debt (Chicagoland Vampires, #11) by Chloe Neill , I got the ARC from netgalley, but it comes out Tuesday.

message 47: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4721 comments He's always been a bit mysterious up till now.

message 48: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Fyi, for any Chicagoland Vampire series fans, Dark Debt was AWESOME!! Here's my review: /review/show... (hopefully I'm smart enough to copy and paste a link anyway). Of course, I'm completely biased since it's my favorite series and I'm completely in love with Ethan! Lol!

Now I'm reading Claiming His Beauty (Feral Breed Motorcycle Club #4) by Ellis Leigh , the forth in a pretty great series.
