#1 Gizliajans by Alper Canıgüz - 204 pages - Jan,3rd
(No English translation)
#2 Kafamda Bir Tuhaflık by Orhan Pamuk - 480 pages - Jan,7th
(Only available in Turkish right now. But will be translated into many languages soon, I guess. He is the most celebrated Turkish author, won Nobel in 2006.)
The story of Mevlut, a boza seller(a beverage made of slighly fermented millet) with rural-to-urban migration, urban transformation, modernization, army coups, politic&social events and love on the background. The setting-Istanbul-is very alive almost like a character. I quite enjoyed this book but still, Black Book is Pamuk's masterpiece.
#3 Hanene Ay Doğacak by Şebnem İşigüzel - 118 pages - Jan,10th
(No English Translation)
A collection of short stories that won several awards when it first came out in 1993. Meh. I liked some of the stories, but couldn't stop thinking the author's trying to catch attention by writing stories about incest relationships and nurses raping cadavres etc. Very easy to read, nothing special.
#4The Real Life of Sebastian Knight by Vladimir Nabokov - 216 pages - Jan,11th
This was my third Nabokov and his first novel written in English. This guy is a genius. My brain hurts when I try to solve the puzzles. And, Nabokov=Unrealiable Narrator!
