I also finished recently, I love her books. I am watching The White Queen on Netflix. I wish they didn't have so many Henry's, Edwards, and Katherine's then, I had to make my own chart to keep these people and events in some kind of order.

Sharon | 6 comments I'm now reading The Boys in the Boat and I highly recommend it. It's about the U of Washington crew team that won the gold in the 1936 Olympics. I am also taking a fabulous class on Dante's Purgatorio. We studied the Inferno last year. I am retired so I have the luxury of reading a lot and attending classes through our UCSC Lifelong Learners program. The lecturer for this class is incredible.

And based on my 2015 Reading Challenge marker, I'm two books behind (busy with work, as usual). Currently reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog.

Kelley Plane (kelleyplane) I just finished The Giver and I loved it! Being a children's novel It was a fast read but well worth it. Currently reading The Girl that was Saturday Night- takes place in Quebec Ontario and it is also a good read.

Katharine Edgar | 25 comments The Haunting of Gad's Hall by Norah Lofts. I think she started off trying to write about devil worship and got carried away by 19th c farming.

I have often felt they weren't very original with names back then, it can be cinfusing at times. I like your chart idea.

I found Dissolution to be a little slow but the next books in the series are fantastic!

message 170: by Cheryl A (new)

Cheryl A | 1009 comments Started a second chunkster - Winter of the World. I don't know what I was thinking, since I'm already listening to another long book - Citadel. I'm going to break it up with a light chick lits - First Frost, followed by some YA. That's something about really long books that bothers me - I keep reading and reading and never feel like I've finished anything. Often by the time I get to the end, I'm just so glad it's over.

On the other hand, there's so many books out there that I want to read that are long (600+ pages), that I just have to buckle down and read or I'll never know what I've missed!

Started Legacy of Alexandria and The Dream Lover: A Novel of George Sand.

Sharon | 6 comments Chunkster. I love the long sagas: Kristen Lavransdatter, Dorothy Dunnett' s incredible Lymonde chronicles, I'm on book 5 and The House of Niccoli. I am in a book club (30 years this month) so I save the long books for summer. My entire family and I reread the Patrick Obrian series over and over.

message 175: by Helena (new)

Helena Schrader Reading Graham Shelby's "Knights of Dark Renown." It's an easy read with a strong basis in historical fact, but (as so often with historical fiction), the portrayal of society is flawed. Squires off doing what they like, lords without squires at all, women choosing their husbands etc. The Knights of Dark Renown Knights of Dark Renown by David Gemmell

message 176: by Steve (new)

Steve Anderson I'm taking my time with Wayfaring Stranger since it's a James Lee Burke novel. Great writer. It's a different type of story for him, covering decades of midcentury American history and power, but it's equally dark. It slows in the middle act but it's picking up again. Glad I stuck with it.

message 189: by Meri (last edited Feb 13, 2015 09:53PM) (new)

Meri (aussie_bookworm) | 70 comments I'm currently reading A Burnable Book by Bruce Holsinger. I will start reading In the Shadow of Lady Jane by Edward Charles at work and my next book will likely be Pompeii by Robert Harris. First book I've read by Harris so looking forward to starting that. I'm also curious about Lady Jane after reading about her briefly in The Children of Henry VIII by Alison Weir last month. In that book it seemed as though Jane had little say in anything but also that she never really comprehended just how much trouble she was in once confined in the Tower by Mary.

My idea with the Lady Jane book is to read from one of my favourite periods in history, the Tudors, without touching on Catherine of Aragon or Anne Boleyn. So many books I've read of this period focus on the first two queens of Henry VIII and the others only get a brief mention. I'd love to know more about Anne of Cleves and Jane Seymour, etc.
