I've finished the first 15 chapters. Here are my responses to Ch 1-5 DQs! 1. What do you think of the characters so far? Do you like Tristan?
Tristan is portrayed as a very stereotypical teenage boy. I think it's hilarious about the amount of concern he has as (view spoiler). I am interested in learning more about his mother and grandfather.
2.What do you think about the story so far? Are you enjoying it?
It is a very simple read. I honestly am not crazy into it but I'm also not bored or irritated. I'm reading it as satire right now ;)
3.What do you about Tristan relationship with Layla?
I honestly want to see them (view spoiler)
Chapters 6-10 DQ's*Reflect on (view spoiler). How do you think this will shape his interactions with land people?
*What do you think of Tristan's first memory of water being in a kiddie pool and not the bathtub, considering his first time as a (view spoiler) is now in a bathtub?

Chapter 11-15The line the made me laugh in chapter 14 (view spoiler) I don't know why that made me laugh. So tell me what line so far made you laugh the most
In chapter 11 Tristan gets a tattoo do you have any tattoos? If not do you want one? I have one it is a anchor for my grandad
How did you feel about finding out who Tristan's grandfather was?(view spoiler)

I'm on chapter 31 as of today. Here are my DQs for ch 16-20*This society (merpeople) has a variety of different physical characteristics (skin, hair, eyes). The humans think they are beautiful. Do you think the same types of biases exist as they do in the human society?

*I like to think if there were other species out there that were humanoid, they wouldn't have the deep seated issue with "isms" that we have. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be the case with the merpeople. I still see evidence of classism (the servants and the knights held highly).
*I like the tie in, even though I don't like poetry. It breaks up the dialogue aspect of the story.

*I love it. One of my favorite parts of The Hunger Games was the description of the Capital People. I see similarities here.

ch 16-20*I do think there is a lot of that going on with the merpeople. And I that they also look down on other merpeople without magic

Book Synopsis:
For Tristan Hart, everything changes with one crashing wave.
He was gone for three days. Sucked out to sea in a tidal wave and spit back ashore at Coney Island with no memory of what happened. Now his dreams are haunted by a terrifying silver mermaid with razor-sharp teeth.
His best friend Layla is convinced something is wrong. But how can he explain he can sense emotion like never before? How can he explain he's heir to a kingdom he never knew existed? That he's suddenly a pawn in a battle as ancient as the gods.
Something happened to him in those three days. He was claimed by the sea...and now it wants him back.
