Edie | 1131 comments Delighted there will be Listopias again this year. As someone who would rather spend time reading than researching, the lists have been invaluable in highlighting books on my TBR lists that fit a prompt.

I feel the same, Edie, and I like Listopias because it is so easy to glance through the list and see what I already have on my TBR!

I thought I don’t read much about Egypt, compared to England or France, say, but I have added several, including a children’s fantasy and a Regency romance.

I've linked the listopias on the Community Spreadsheet planning tab, for easier access.

Stupid question: These promts, you posted listopias for, are the ones that already made it on the 2021 challenge list?

Not a stupid question! Yes, these prompts have already made it on the list.

You can find the full list of prompts on the list here as well: /topic/show/...

Ha, and for me, as someone who spends her non-reading time researching, I enjoying coming up with a million options for every prompt that I'm not actually going to end up reading! ;)

message 9: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmyers) | 539 comments Listopia always says to please note how this book applies in your notes on your voting! I can never find this when I'm looking at the lists, though. I think this is especially important for the P,P,F list - so we know what the theme is. I would like to suggest books relating to libraries or librarians, but how would people know that's how they tie together?

message 10: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 10942 comments Mod
When you vote, on the side bar, it pops up with a blank box under the book title that you can type into. When the book is on the list, you can click "2 people voted" and it will show you who voted for the book and any notes they added.

So when you vote for a book, you could list the other two books and how they are connected!

Thank you, I never knew this!

message 12: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Yes, thank you, Emily. All these years on GR and I never found that feature!

Nicole | 101 comments Does it make sense to add books that aren't translated into english, or would that be too confusing?

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't add non-English books; there are a lot of people in the group who are multilingual.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 10942 comments Mod
I agree with Jackie, Nicole. Add away!

How do you find the notes if you're not votiing?

message 17: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1825 comments In the website, click on the link that says "# people voted," it will bring up a box and if someone entered a comment it will be there.

I don't know how, or if you even can, on the app.

Got it , thanks Nancy!

Ali | 66 comments Perri wrote: "How do you find the notes if you're not votiing?"

You can click on the "6 people voted" link. If you don't see any notes or comments it's just because those voters didn't leave any comments. Most people don't so I wouldn't be shocked if you don't find many with comments. There's no way to see which ones have comments as far as I know and this is on the main website, I try and avoid the app where possible so not sure about on there.

If you scroll to the bottom of the list, you will see everyone who has voted. If you click on someone’s name it will show only their votes plus the comments they added (if any).

I am adding one to "ice" for anyone who doesn't want to read about journeys to the Arctic. The heroine of this modern romance is an Olympic-level skater. - Summer's End

message 22: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 757 comments FYI, there is at least one book on the Muslim character/author list that doesn't actually qualify (author & character are Iranian-American, but not Muslim), and a couple others I'm not certain of - so just as a thought, make sure to check whether a book fills a prompt for yourself, even if you get the idea off the list?

message 23: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1825 comments Which book are you referring to? I added Exit West and had to do some research to confirm the author is Muslim.

If you comment on the list, I can remove the book (especially helpful if you name what number position the book is in to help me find it).

That's the problem with listopias... definitely have some books randomly added that don't necessarily fit.

message 26: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 327 comments Why is there a listopia for the word generator? Isn't the point that you get a word from it and then find a book with that word in the title?

message 27: by Thomas (new)

Thomas I have to ask I thought black and white is monochrome fair enough you have expanded it but does black and white count as well?

message 28: by dalex (last edited Sep 27, 2020 03:11AM) (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments Johanna - Some people already did the word generator and chose possible books for the words they received. I guess the listopia is kind of pointless because it’s unlikely people are going to get the same words but it’s interesting to see what other people are doing with the prompt.

Thomas - Monochromatic is black and white or varying tones of only one color.

message 29: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Thank you

message 30: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 10942 comments Mod
Like dalex said, we figured it could maybe give you ideas for your word by scrolling through what other people are reading.

message 31: by Thomas (new)

Thomas lookign forward to this

Avery (averyapproved) | 475 comments I think it may be nice to include here another Listopia for the 5 random words that the mods rolled for.

message 35: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1825 comments NATO is there - poll 7.

Kelly Sj | 477 comments Stacey wrote: "Just looking over the listopia lists - there’s 2 listings for the random word generator prompt, but the NATO listing has disappeared. Thanks for the revision :))"

There are two Random Word listopias - one is for the word(s) each individual person is using, and the other is using the five words the mods got, which are listed at the top of that listopia page (for those who wanted to do something with the group).

message 37: by Stacey (new)

Stacey D. | 1908 comments Hmm. I didn't see NATO listed for Poll 7 when I looked earlier today, Nancy. And I later I saw the 2 listopias as you mentioned, Kelly. Thank you :))

Chrissy | 1132 comments When you are looking at the list, at the top there is a link to “Add books to this list. From there, you can search your own books or all books and add them. It will take a few minutes for your votes to be updated on the listopia.
