I'm planning on it, too. 😊 BTW... are any of you not receiving notifications here on GR? All of a sudden, as of yesterday, I stopped getting them.🤔 I even double checked my settings to make sure nothing got reset but everything is the same. Glitch???

Definitely glitch. I’m not receiving any as well and I also noticed a few status updates from other friends commenting on it as well.

I completely agree with you Ginger he really excels at the growing up stories (though I still need to read The Institute.) I really enjoyed Mr. Harrigan's Phone too. He did such a good job at making the characters come to life. Fixing to start on The Life of Chuck, I hope the rest is just as good as the first one!

Ի✌️ (andrew619) | -117 comments I started this book yesterday evening and now I'm more or less in the middle of the first novel, Mr. Harrigan's Phone. King's style is always fantastic, a wonderful picture of the life of this young boy, his influence on Mr. Harrigan and vice versa.

Thank you! 😊 I've been meaning to read it since it first came out but just haven't gotten around to it. I don't know what I've been waiting for as I can't see myself not liking it. Since its fresh in my mind I may try to read it next.

Me too! I'm going to start on the second story tonight.
I really liked "The Institute". It was a good and entertaining supernatural thriller. It could have been a bit more believable in a few spots (not anything to do with the supernatural stuff but more the plot) but I enjoyed it overall!

Ginger | 3876 comments I finished up The Life of Chuck last night.
Absolutely great start and I was excited to see where this went. And then it just felt like SK didn't know where to take the plot and it turned into a hot mess by the end.

message 23: by Vickie (new)

Vickie (bookfan4ever) Ugh, I'm going to be behind on this one. I'm trying to devote more of my time to my A-Rod steroid book since I'm reading that with my son for his one college class. All I want to do is read this one instead, but we're on a deadline for the other one. Oh the woes of reading... sigh...😞😉

Ha!! The woes of reading is right. No worries. I'm sure we are all reading at different paces. I know Andrew and Lisa have just started. Good luck with the 'roids! :D

I think I'm going to finish up If It Bleeds (3rd story) by the weekend just so I can start a BR with Terry on Sunday. I HAVE also bit off more to chew...err read. ;) hahaha!!

I just finished The Life of Chuck and I feel the same way you do about it. It was kind of confusing and all over the place. I get that the story is going backwards but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first story. I'm about to start If It Bleeds which is the one I've been the most excited to read!😁

If all the novels have the same quality, this collection will be a great reading!

Nice Scott! Glad you enjoyed that one and I can really see how it would be a great Twilight Zone episode. In fact, it works a bit better for me now that I'm visualizing it in that way. :D

Ի✌️ (andrew619) | -117 comments Today I started "'The Life of Chuck'", a novel that remember me an episode of the tv show "The Twilight Zone" and I see here that I'm not the only one.
I read few pages, but the beginning is so actual and so disturbing. I have goose bumps reading it! :)

Vickie (bookfan4ever) I enjoyed Mr. Harrigan's Phone as well. (view spoiler)

Based on what y'all have said about Life of Chuck, I think I'm going to jump to If It Bleeds, since that's the one I'm most interested in. I need my Holly fix.😉😄 I'll double-back to Life of Chuck after that.

Ի✌️ (andrew619) | -117 comments Finished "Life of Chuck", in my opinion a wonderful novel. The structure of the story, divided in three different episodes, gives a strange perspective to it and different feeling to the reader. Sometimes it's sad, other is mysterious , but engaging. :)
And I finally started "If It Bleeds", with Holly Gibney in another incredible hunt for the killer!

I loved the beginning of that one though!

Ginger | 3876 comments Just finished up If It Bleeds. I really liked it!

I think if you haven’t read the Bill Hodges series, you’ll get more from this story about Holly’s background and friends from that series.

Lisa - I still don’t like the poopy cussing. LOL!

Vickie - Because we’ve read that whole series and The Outsider, I think you’ll really enjoy this (view spoiler)

I really liked Rat as well.

Looking forward to seeing how everyone likes each story!

message 47: by Feli (new)

Feli (felifirefly) | 516 comments Hi all! After a little absence here on GR I just saw that you started this BR a few days ago. Are some of you still reading?
I started the first story, well, many moons before, lol. I really liked it, it was a 4 star story for me. I just picked the book up again (wanted to squeeze in The Outsider before going on) and finished Life of Chuck. Wow, I really enjoyed this story. It's one of my favourite novellas/short stories/whatever by King, I think (N. will always be number 1, though). I liked the structure and how he build the plot backwards and it just felt right for me.
Can't wait to read more about Holly now, live her so much 😄
