Looking for Friends :)

I'd like to get to know more about everyone.
What are you favourite hobbies?
What would be your favourite book of all time?
Here's mine:
Hobbies: reading, fitness, watching tv shows & movies, occasionally play some video games with friends, and eating!
Favourite Book: Exhalation: Stories by Ted Chiang
Nice to meet you all.

Hey Ricky, Yeh...during the quarantine all I did was sit in the sun in my yard and read. I re-read one of my favorites cuz, well...what do you read while under lockdown from a deadly virus???Well, 'The Stand' by Stephen King of course...LOL 🤣. I was running out of stuff to read, and now that I'm back at work my "want to read" list has grown exponentially.
So...hobbies....Reading, fitness, cats (mine & assisting rescue groups), cooking & baking
Favorite book is tough...I'd have to say 'The Witching hour' by Anne Rice though.
I'll go one further... Favorite band: I have 2 actually, from very different musical genres The Eagles & Kiss. I truly love them both!

Hobbies: painting, drawing, reading and video games
favorite book: The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker

Of course you to to read a pandemic novel! How did you like "The Stand"? I have it on my list, but its a looong one.
Awesome hobbies! The only thing I can bake are chocolate chip cookies haha but they're pretty good. I do love some supernatural novels, especially the really dark ones.

Hey Tiffanie! Nice to meet you. I tried to get back into drawing, but it didn't stick. Shading was so difficult lol. I'll just add that book to my read list.... How are you finding the books you're reading now? I definitely want to read "House of Leaves".

The unabridged version of The Stand is very long, but well worth the read if you can put in the time. I read it years ago when it first came out (I think I was in my 20's, still living at home so had mucho time...LOL) and when I re-read it recently, it was like running into an old friend I hadn't seen in years....familiar, but different. It's such a great story. If you've seen the mini series, putting faces with the characters just adds to the experience.
If you like dark supernatural stories, I highly suggest some of Joe Hart's early novels like Everfall. Super great read!

well, House of Leaves just showed up today. It was a hard book to find for a long time. I'm currently trying to finish up Thrawn: Alliances. Which I enjoy. Thrawn (the first book) was really good and i love the character.
Also The Great and Secret Show is a must read if you ask me, and there is a second book Everville. It was good just not as good as Great and Secret Show

I'm relatively new on ŷ but always keen to get to know others and pick up recommendations from them!
I read all kinds of books but in terms of horror the Rewind or Die series are really cool and fairly short, so nice to read when the brain wants something easy!
Outside of reading I love running and looking after my collection of fish and shrimps!

Yeah books are always different when you re-read them years later. I'll have to read it eventually. I'll read the book before taking a look at the mini-series. Books are usually better than their adaptations haha. I'll check out the recommendation! Thanks Laurie.

It does seem hard to find. I was looking around. Did you get the paperback or hardcover?
I read the first Thrawn book. I'll get to the other eventually. Do you watch The Mandalorian? The previous episode was exciting for Star Wars fans lol.
Thanks for the recommendations, Tiffanie. I'll check them out!

Hey Anthony!
Oh I'll check out those books. Yes! Easy reads are nice especially after a long or difficult read. I like to alternate and give my brain a rest lol.
Running has always been a struggle. I guess I should use my treadmill a bit more.
Interesting! I never knew anyone who had shrimps before.
Nice to meet you, Anthony.

Hi Anthony! Very nice to meet you!! I just read 'A Ghost Arrives' by Abe Moss, and a bit of the storyline relies heavily on the family's pet cockatiel...Interesting ghostly read with a bird as a main charachter.
So are your shrimps pets? ? That's pretty cool...

LMK what you think after you've read it. It had some good twists. Birds are fun if you have the time to spend with them. Growing up, we had an african grey parrot...he was my mom's baby. Unfortunately, my family was a bit dysfunctional and the bird's first sentence was "F@#k you" which was always fun when you were on the phone...🤣🤣🤣🤣. I don't eat shellfish, so thinking of shimp as pets comes quite easy to me. I be they are VERY relaxing to watch.

African Greys are funny creatures. There's a boat that sometimes docks outside our apartment that has an African Grey onboard, he whistles the Addams Family theme over and over again haha

I got the paperback of House of Leaves with three additional appendices. it is a huge a heavy book. I was able to get it from Barns and Noble of all places.
I tried watching the Madalorian, but The Child just isn't it for me. ( I know unpopular opinion) So far my favorite authors for Star Wars is Delilah S Dawson and Timothy Zahn. Phasma was a fantastic book and by far my favorite character

You too! :) I see you recently added Apt Pupil to your to-read list, I can highly recommend it!

Yeah it seems like a difficult book to track down. I do like collecting hardcovers of books I like, but it can become expensive :(
Aw I'm sad that you're not into The Mandalorian. I'll check out other Star Wars books eventually. I'll probably finish Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy first.

I love Star Wars and have to make time to read some more books! I loved the Legacy of the Force series and Fate of the Jedi series. And I've only caught bits and pieces of The Mandalorian when my 19 yr old son is watching it. He says how much I would like it, but it's finding the time to sit down and watch it that's the problem. So hopefully I can make that happen in the near future.😊
If anyone sends me a friend request please add in the note section your from HA or which ever group. I accept those automatically.

Same here. I have a light challenge question, so just answer you're from HA and that'll work.

My hobbies include reading, hiking, billiards, and cooking. I love watching Star Wars (clone wars is my fav), and re-read anything by Stephen King and David Wong constantly.
I'm excited to read lots of horror in the the new year. My Christmas wish list included Night Train, House of Leave, Mexican Gothic, Clown in a Cornfield, and A head full of Ghosts. So, hopefully I'll spend the holidays reading about ghosts and terrors.

Hopefully I'll be able to plow through through the tedium and focus on the interesting parts.
I'm going to start the The Hollow Places this week.

I will! We can compare notes :)

my name is Inci, I'm very new to this group too and enjoying it a lot. My hobbies are reading, audiobooks, sewing and cycling - even more grateful for my bike since the pandemic started.
Favorite book of all time is a hard choice, but I would either go with Tales of Dying Earth by Jack Vance or 2666 by Roberto Bolano, neither of them horror, really.
Tiffanie I'm so glad to read you are reading House of Leaves, it seems like everybody has already read it but me. My copy has been waiting on the shelf for ages now. You may have inspired me to pick it up too :)

And now to the questions:
What are you favorite hobbies? Running and weight lifting! Reading, beer, and eating tapas (and Korean food) come right after that.
What would be your favorite book of all time? Pachinko by Minjin Lee. It's a family saga following a South Korean woman who ends up in Japan after having a child and marrying a minister. It sounds boring (or it did to me before picking it up), but I think about it very often and one of the characters still haunts me somehow (+ I lived in Korea and thus it caught my attention since page 1).

I miss the gym so much :(. I do enjoy Korean food, but too much spicy kills me haha. I've been meaning to look more into Asian authors.

I'm going to aim for that number as my goal too! I'm excited to start haha. I do have an adult colouring book myself, but my fingers get tired from all the colouring lol. It's definitely relaxing though.

My name is Emmanuel, and I am an author/musician.
I look forward to meeting other like minded creatives.
I have a fascination with spiritual horror, and the concept of the ghost world, based on experience.

favorite book(s): flowers for algronon by Daniel Keyes, clockwork orange by Anthony Burgess, wormwood by Chad Lutzke and Tim Meyer, the ghost map by Steven Johnson
sorry I couldn't pick just one!

Hi Katie, welcome to the group! Love the hobbies and books you mentioned :) Do you have a certain type of thing you like to paint or draw?

I’m a fan of all genres more or less.
Horror, contemporary, classics, fantasy, ya, graphic novels, manga, romance, memoirs etc
I respect all opinions on books and just would love to connect over the love of reading 😀
Always up for making friends through our shared love of reading :)

I have been working on creating a teaser for both of my books, which has been interesting with the quarantine. I have an actress in Vancouver that was wiling to be in the teaser for #Redacted but have been having trouble looking for a film student in Vancouver for help.

Open to making new friends here on ŷ. I'm into horror, thriller and some romance books (picky about those...lol).
Feel free to send me a friend request!
I am also open to making friends.

You can get great reviews and fun conversations.
Enjoy
Sarah

Just sent you a friend request. :)
I'm looking to make some new connections on goodreads. I usually read sci fi, fantasy, horror, thriller, and occasionally self-help books. Reading everday is a new habit for me and i'm addicted to it! Hope to meet some cool people here with similar interests!
Thanks in advance :)
