A book featuring three generations: grandparent, parent, child.

I know I read plenty of books with multiple generations, but I can't think of any right now, EXCEPT the two I am currently reading (because of course): The New Wilderness & The Reckless Oath We Made, and a book I just finished: Empire of Wild.

What are some other books with three generations?

Listopia for a book featuring three generations

Mandi (mandilitton) I just finished All Adults Here and it fits this prompt perfectly.

Yep! That and the third one, Rich People Problems, both definitely work. Although I'm less sure about the second one, China Rich Girlfriend.

Misty | 19 comments The Book Jumper by Mechthild Gläser Book Jumper by Mechthild Gläser

message 12: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 54 comments Right now I’m reading The Second Deadly Sin by Åsa Larson. A good mystery set in northern Sweden revolving around a series of family murders with a child, his parents, grandmother, great grandfather and great great grandmother! So far it’s really good and gets 5 stars on ŷ.

message 15: by Emily (new)

Emily (elimeno) | 17 comments The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo might fit this prompt as well

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 263 comments I think I'll be reading: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

message 17: by Irene (new)

Irene Ritman (ireneireen) | 9 comments Years and years ago I read Marianne Fredriksson - Hanna’s Daughters Put that on my shortlist for now, but will keep an eye out for anything new

message 18: by Lucie (new)

Lucie Moulton | 9 comments Wild Swans and Pachinko ❤️

message 19: by Amy (new)

Amy (amymarkscouk) | 39 comments My favourite Middlesex!

I think there's lots of family epics that would work for this - One Hundred Years of Solitude or The House of the Spirits spring to mind, although you may want to use either of those for magical realism instead!

message 20: by Joanna G (new)

Joanna G (joanna_g) | 349 comments I just read and adored Greenwood (for upside-down image), but it would also fit for this.

message 21: by Shawna (new)

Shawna | 17 comments Pachinko
Highly recommend this book and it fits perfectly.

message 22: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments A five-star book I read a couple years ago that would fit is Cilla Lee-Jenkins: Future Author Extraordinaire by Susan Tan.

Good to know! It's been on my radar for a little while now and this is the perfect reason to pick it up.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1748 comments Marica (The Book Chick) wrote: "Anyone read The Switchand could tell me if it fits this prompt? :)"

Yes, it's mostly about the daughter and grandmother but the mother does have a role in it.

Novels and Neckties - Kira Murasaki | 26 comments I do believe The Silmarillion might include 3 generations, maybe even more. no?

Chelsea (chelseanotchels) | 54 comments East of Eden is on the listopia; are there actually three generations in this book? I'd like to use it if so, but from the description only looks like it has two generations

message 34: by ė (new)

ė | 6 comments I think I'm gonna go with Three Daughters by Consuelo Saah Baehr: From the fertile hills of a tiny village near Jerusalem to the elegant townhouses of Georgetown, Three Daughters is a historical saga that chronicles the lives, loves, and secrets of three generations of Palestinian Christian women.

It's also available on Prime Reading (at least in UK).

Yes, there are 3 generations in this book.

message 37: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments My sister recommended September by Rosamunde Pilcher for this prompt. It's long, but the synopsis sounds better than a lot of books I have seen for multigenerational stories.

message 38: by Booksinbklyn (new)

Booksinbklyn | 2 comments Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson would work

message 39: by Miriam (new)

Miriam Sanchez (mariroxursox) | 22 comments Has anyone read What She Left Behind? Would this work with this prompt?

message 40: by Ana (new)

Ana | 105 comments I can think of several that I've already read, lol. Merci Suárez Changes Gears is a really good one for this. Ghost Squad if you count ghosts as relatives lol. Bob is good. Hello, Universe is also really good.

Middlegrade has a lot of good ones, but I feel like I read most of them... I have a lot where the kids are sent to their grandparents, so maybe I will use one of those, like Caterpillar Summer or Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, but I think I will try Hoodoo.

message 41: by Charlsa (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 195 comments Marica (The Book Chick) wrote: "Anyone read The Switchand could tell me if it fits this prompt? :)"

The Switch doesn't would fit with a broad interpretation interpretation of this prompt. The mom isn't in much of the book. It focuses on the grandmother and granddaughter. It's a good book!

message 42: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1748 comments Charlsa wrote: "The Switch doesn't would fit with a broad interpretation interpretation of this prompt...."

I disagree, a broad interpretation just means it has all three generations in, and even though the mum doesn't have a POV role, she's important enough in it that for most people, it'd count.

message 43: by Milena (new)

Milena (milenas) | 1195 comments I agree that the mother and daughter relationship between Leena and her mother is an important part of The Switch.

message 44: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mae Perkins (samanthamaei) | 5 comments Are there three generation in Sense and Sensibility? Or any of Jane Austen’s books?

message 45: by Jennifer (new)

There are in Sense and Sensibility.

message 48: by Teri (new)

Teri (teria) | 1554 comments I just watched the Netflix movie Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis and wanted to read the book. I assume it will be a 3-generations book since the movie was.

message 49: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments This will be a reread for me, and I'm sure The Snow Child fits, for a short while at least.
