Suzanne | 2453 comments Hi team! I'm excited to see our hands and start planning some books!
My name is Suzanne - I grew up in New Mexico and currently live in Idaho. I like and read most type of books, although I probably read fantasy more than others. Anyway - this will be fun :)

message 4: by Nimrodel (new)

Nimrodel | 21 comments Hello all!
I currently live in Washington, and this will be my first team challenge. I've been trying to read more (and more consistently), and this seemed like a good way to do that. I gravitate more toward the fantasy genre, and I'm not super fond of romance/chick lit (on its own).

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Hi everyone. I'm KayLynn and will be the team captain. I live in Utah and I'm a stay at home mom to a 9 month old baby girl. I read more fantasy and mystery than anything else but I try to read all sorts of books.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's book choices and reading some fun stuff.
The Perk's Moderator is creating a spreadsheet to track our progress. I believe it will be posted to the group so everyone can view it. I will do my best to update daily but obviously life happens and that may not always be possible...but I'll be here as often as I can.
Only a week left to start!

happy reading!

message 6: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Thanks for being willing to be the captain KayLynn!

message 7: by Perks Moderator, Know-it-all (new)

Perks Moderator | 572 comments Spreadsheet is posted into message 2 which includes your Feb hands so you can start planning :)

message 8: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments If I read it correctly, the Draw 2 means that we can read one book for a 5 and it could count for both 5s. (Although I'm sure there are tons of other combinations we can do.)

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi my name is Janessa! I am a college student earning my BA in theatre design with a minor in business. I enjoy reading, watching movies, art, and writing. My favorite type of books are fantasy, science fiction, mystery, historical fiction, and young adult, as well as plays. Can't wait to start playing! Go Angry Birds!

That is correct, Suzanne. Draw 2 means we pick a book to count as 2 cards. We do not get points, but we get through the hand faster!

message 11: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments How would you like us to figure out books and stuff? What would make it easiest for you? I've been excited thinking about books I'd like to read!

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Hi! I'm excited and this is the first time I've tried a game like this. I read anything I can get my hands on although I do tend to avoid romance and chick lit.

Jennifer J. | 561 comments And if things get too busy for Captain KayLynn, I would be willing to help out.

Thanks Jennifer, that's fantastic!

message 16: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments I'm still trying to figure out how I think we should report and divide out books. I'm open to suggestions...

message 17: by KayLynn (last edited Jan 27, 2015 09:16AM) (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Let's do this first. If there are books you KNOW you are going to read, post those and all the possible cards they can count towards. We can see where those fit in the scheme of things first. Then when we see what's left we can divide based on people's month average for reading.
Sound fair?

Also, I will be friending all of you. Some of you have your privacy settings to private and we will have to be friends for me to verify your books.

message 18: by Athena (new)

Athena Moore (dymondmr17) Hey. This is my first te challenge so I'm excited! I'll see which books I can read and go from.there. :)

message 19: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments I'll go first. I haven't checked for reverse yet and this is just based off the summary and not reading the book yet so the list may expand.
Oh! And the word "The" will count towards the T's in the title.

This month I can commit to finishing:
The Fat Man: A Tale of North Pole Noir by Ken Harmon
This would count as 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, skip, wild

Die Again by Tess Gerritsen
2, 3, skip, wild

The Castle of Llyr by Lloyd Alexander
2, 3, 8, skip, wild

French Pressed by Cleo Coyle
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, wild

Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay: And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom by Stefanie Wilder-Taylor
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, skip, wild

And if there is time:
Invincible: The 10 Lies You Learn Growing Up with Domestic Violence, and the Truths to Set You Free by Brian F. Martin
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, skip, wild

message 20: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments That sounds like a great approach KayLynn. Would you like us to set up an Uno bookshelf to put our completed books on? I'm not sure if that would help your or not, but if it would, I'd be happy to do that.

I'll post a list later this afternoon. It is SO fun to think about the books I'll be reading in February!

message 22: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I always have several books going of different mediums (yes I have a problem) and the ones I'm currently working that I do not think I'll finish before the end of the month are:

Hardcover:Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand (0,1,2,3,6,7,9,S)

Paperback: Best Short Shorts (not sure yet)

iPad ebook: A Heat of the Moment Thing by Maggie Le Page (4,5,6,7,S...so far)

iPhone ebook: The Secret Holocaust Diaries: The Untold Story of Nonna Bannister by Nonna Bannister (2,3,6,7,9,S...so far)I don't read on my iPhone a lot so no guarantees I would finish this one by the end of the month unless needed.

eaudiobook: The Hidden Child by Camilla Läckberg (2,3,4,5,8,9,S)

CD audiobook in car: Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult (6,7,S...so far)

I also have Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher which would work for a Reverse. I can't remember who had read it I just skimmed a couple read bookshelves.

I have a few books laying in my pile that I plan to read in February but I am pretty flexible.

message 23: by Suzanne (last edited Jan 31, 2015 08:11AM) (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Wow I fit right in with this group - I always have a few books going as well. There are just too many good things to read!

Several of the above books people named would work for a reverse. I have read in the past Thirteen Reasons Why, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secretsand The Night Circus.

Books I have in progress that should be done the first part of February: (More categories may apply as I find character names)

The Handmaid's Tale (0,1,2,3)
Never Look Away (0, 8, 9)
The Providence of Fire (1,2,3,6,7,Skip)
An Autumn War (1,3,8,9,Skip)

Other books I'm planning on finishing in Feb.
The King Beyond the Gate (2,3)
Apple Turnover Murder (4,5,9)
Hello Love (0, Skip)

I'm also planning on reading, but may not finish in Feb.
Fool's Assassin (1,4,5)
The Autumn Republic (2,3)
Half the World (2,3)

I'm pretty flexible though and I'd be willing to swap many of these for others if it will fill in our hands better. I have TONS of books I'd like to read.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

So if I were to read either Night Circus or Harry Potter that would count towards a reverse card correct?

message 25: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Yes that's correct! They are both fun books too.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok so why don't we plan having me read those two for our reverse cards for February. I also want to finish The Scorpio Races here in
February would that one fit any of our hands/cards?

message 27: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Janessa, The Scorpio Races fits 6, 7, and skip for sure. It may match others too.

message 28: by Nimrodel (new)

Nimrodel | 21 comments The only three I kind of have lined up are:

From Dead to Worse (4,5,6,7,(9?) and 8 - it can fit for the draw 2 card in hand one via two of 5/7/8)

Dead and Gone (6,7,9, possibly 8 and whatever else)

Dog on It (1,6,7)

The first and third are in progress and will probably be finished in early, early Feb. And that first I'm well over half-way done, but I can wait to finish it if going to use it.

Other than maybe continuing/finishing the one series (if it fits--it's more 6 and 7s, 8, and maybe 9 depending, oh, and S and probably P), don't have anything lined up.

message 29: by Nimrodel (new)

Nimrodel | 21 comments Janessa - The Scorpio Races would also fit 2 and 3 -- can use (or not use) 'The' in titles.

Lugosifan -- Same thing for those two you listed that start with T -- they can also be a 2 or 3.

I feel the odd man out. I'm currently only reading 4 books...

message 32: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Everyone has books lined up and it looks awesome! I'll spend some time this week seeing where we are at. For now just read what you've listed here and I'll get back to the group about holes that need filled.

I didn't have any read from anyone else's list...

✩T¾±´Ú´Ú²¹²Ô²â✩ (_tiffany_) | 11 comments Hi everyone! I'm Tiffany from Sydney, Australia. I just graduated from uni. I enjoy reading romance, scifi, fantasy and paranormal, I tend to sick to the same genres but I have enjoyed the random biography or other non-fiction.

I just joined this group and this will be my first challenge and team! I don't really think ahead about books I'll be reading but I'll go through my TBR pile and give you my list of books I'll read for sure.

message 36: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Hi Tiffany - it's good to have you on our team!

Dymond - I get confused sometimes with the mobile goodreads too - although it is better than nothing :)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Dymond wrote: "maybe i should get.off the mobile goodreads bc i al thoroughly confused right now"

I don't use mobile for groups. It's not very user friendly in that regard. I just use it for my shelves. Seems to work ok.

message 38: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Hi KayLynn - I hope it's going ok - I know you have a big job getting us organized. Let me know if there is something you would like me to do to help.

I guess it is soon time when we can finish books to count for our Uno hands. I hope everyone has fun reading!

message 39: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Ok everyone! We are LIVE! Let's read our little hearts out! Have so much fun.

Please post in the group and update your Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ shelves as you finish. I'll enter the books into our spreadsheet. (Please, please, please don't make changes in the googledocs file for our team. If changes need to be made, post in group or message me and I will fix it.)

message 40: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Also, I've already wiggled my book list around a little so feel free to do the same. I think it's important to have fun while kicking some reading bum!

I've spent all weekend working at my local Comic-Con so I'll leave you with this:
Keep Calm and Read Like Hell!

message 41: by Nimrodel (new)

Nimrodel | 21 comments Okay, I finished both of the in-progress books I had, and they're on my challenge shelf, but I did add some options for both books:

From Dead to Worse can be *any* two cards from hand one plus the draw two card. But if want to use it elsewhere: 2/3 (char: Tanya), 4/5 (title), 6/7/S (char: Sookie), 8 (8th in series), 9 (char: Niall).

Dog on It fits 1 (1st in series), 2/3 (char: Rick Torres), 6/7/S (author: Spencer), 9/P (char: Nixon Panero).

Now I should go find an audiobook for next week. Tried one out a couple of weeks ago, finally, after over a year of commuting 35-40 min to work, and I think I'll be 'reading' more that way. :)

message 42: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments How was Dog on It? I own that one - maybe I can read it for one of our future reverses. Sounds like it fits tons of categories too.

I love audiobooks. That's how I do most of my 'reading'.
Thanks for the update. I have that in my spreadsheet.

message 44: by Nimrodel (new)

Nimrodel | 21 comments Suzanne - It was hard not to finish it yesterday, just with where I ended up stopping. Chet (a dog) is the narrator, and he *does* get distracted (especially by smells!), so there's a little bit of repetition/abrupt change of focus. The mystery part was perhaps on the simpler side (although I haven't read too many recently), but despite the book being from Chet's POV, it wasn't what I'd call cutesy, although there's some humor. When it comes down to it, if you like dogs, you'll probably like it!

I gave it a four out of five, and might actually try reading the sequels sometime, which I wasn't originally planning on. Was at the library looking for a book that'd fit one of the harder to find letters for an Author A-Z challenge, and Dog on It sounded the most interesting in the Q's.

message 45: by KayLynn (last edited Feb 01, 2015 02:15PM) (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Hey group! I've spent some time now getting organized. I made a tab on our group spreadsheet on Google.docs that shows our progress. I made a sheet that tells us what cards we need and what cards we have, as well as which books can be counted towards which cards. I will be entering in books into the hands as we go along, but this spreadsheet will make it easier to fill in holes and rearrange things based on need so we can maximize our points. The tab is the last one, called KayLynn's Notes. Please no touchy but feel free to look and see our status and what we need.

message 46: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments KayLynn - I love it - I think that's a great way to optimize how we use everything!

I will finish my first book for the challenge late tonight or tomorrow.

✩T¾±´Ú´Ú²¹²Ô²â✩ (_tiffany_) | 11 comments Here is my shelf for this team challenge: Angry Birds Uno

Books read:
The Keeping by Erin Durante | Cards: 2 (book 2), Skip (title Keeping)

Magic Resistant by Veronica Del Rosa | Cards: 1 (book 1), 9 (character name Nathan), 2 and 3 (character last name Thorne)

message 48: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments My shelf for the challenge is Uno Challenge

I just finished An Autumn War. It would count for 1 (Character name Otah), 3 (3rd in series), 9 (character name Nayiit), 8 (Character name Eiah), Skip (character name Sinja).

message 49: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments I just finished A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron. It would work for 0 (stand alone novel), 2/3 (character Toby), and 8 (character Ethan). This book was not in my original list because it snuck up and distracted me at the library.

message 50: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments I've read A Dog's Purpose before, so it would also work for a reverse.

Sniff....it was a good book. I see why it snuck up on you Jennifer.
