Hi! My name is Cassandrah Woyak, and I created this group to help with finding books to fulfill the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge 2021, because we can search the internet, but we don't know if anyone actually would recommend any of the books we find! I also thought it would be fun to see how others are doing with this challenge, and see how everyone else if fulfilling the topics, so we have the weekly check-ins as well. So I thought we'd answer a few questions to get to know everyone :)

What is your favorite genre of books?
Who is one of your favorite authors?
What is one of your all time favorite series?
How many books did you read last year, and did you do a challenge?
Why did you join this group and choose this challenge?
Did you come over from the 2020 group?

message 3: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Freeman Hello, I'm Melissa and I look forward to working on this challenge with a group. Last year I only managed to complete 17 of the prompts, so this year I'm hoping to do better. Now on to the fun stuff...

What is your favorite genre of books? I enjoy Romance, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Suspense...pretty much everything really.
Who is one of your favorite authors? Nalini Singh, Mercedes Lackey
What is one of your all time favorite series? The Psy Changeling Series by Nalini Singh or The Valdemar Series by Mercedes Lackey
How many books did you read last year, and did you do a challenge? I did have a challenge of 110 books and read 156 and counting as the year isn't over yet.
Why did you join this group and choose this challenge? I like that this group is smaller at the moment, so it'll be easier to get to know everyone and follow along as more people join. As for the reading challenge, I'm always up for unique ways to read outside my usual suspects.
Did you come over from the 2020 group? I was part of a group that did the 2020 challenge but I wasn't very active in their discussions or chats. I'm not sure if it was a same group you're referring to.

What is your favorite genre of books? fantasy/fiction/romance

Duuuuude Cassandrah and I have been challenging each other for years now. I originally challenged her to the Better World Books challenge years ago. She whooped my butt, and I had to buy her dessert! (We were broke college kids, the stakes were low ;))

Did you come over from the 2020 group? YUP! Watch out Cassandrah!!! 2021 is MY year! lol it's all in good fun! Can't wait to see what everyone picks to read this coming year!

Tammy | 21 comments Hello, my name is Tammy. Thanks for inviting me again. I enjoy reading a variety of genres. Mostly romance. Some of my favorite authors are Nicholas Sparks, Philipa Gregory, James Patterson. The series I have read are Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and many of the Percy books. I was in the 2019 challenge and didn’t get very far. I was not in the 2020 challenge but I did read one book, Every Breath by N. Sparks and I enjoyed that. I am hoping to get back into reading after a busy couple of years with no time to read.

Angela | 1 comments Hey there! I’m Angie, brand new to doing a reading challenge and have been horrible about tracking my reads here so this is going to be my goal for 2021. I love to read everything, so I feel like this will be fun for me but my great loves are thriller, modern fiction, YA, dystopian. However, I’m a sucker for the classics especially British literature.

I live in Minnesota and it’s freezing right now so the cold is a perfect time to cuddle in with good books!

message 8: by Janet (new)

Janet (janethepain) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Janet. I enjoy a lot of variety. Rom Com, mystery, thriller. It really depends on the mood. I joined the group to get more ideas on what to read. I work in the IT department at a hospital and sometimes the job is stressful and reading is my escape. Thanks you for having me in the group.

Hi there! My name is Cassandrah.

What is your favorite genre of books?
YA, dystopian, and romance

Who is one of your favorite authors?
Sarah J Maas hands down! I also love Cassandra Clare and Helen Hardt.
What is one of your all time favorite series?
A Court of Thorns and Roses - I re read this once a year lol

How many books did you read last year, and did you do a challenge?
So far 81, still working on getting to 100 by the end of the year! I am working on the PopSugar 2020 challenge, but I missed reading a book during banned books week so I know it won't be complete....

Why did you join this group and choose this challenge?
I made the group :) I love the PopSugar challenge, it gets me out of my comfort zone and forces me to read new and different books!

Did you come over from the 2020 group?
I did!

message 10: by Dustyloup (new)

Dustyloup | 5 comments Hi, American in France for over 10 years

What is your favorite genre of books?
Graphic novels, especially non-fiction and memoir

Who is one of your favorite authors?
Anne Pandolfo, French graphic novelist (for example: La lionne : Un portrait de Karen Blixen)

What is one of your all time favorite series?
I actually very rarely read series except for Manga. One of my favorites: Le Maître des livres, tome #1, unfortunately not published in English

How many books did you read last year, and did you do a challenge?
2020 isn't over yet, but I've read 278 books this year (including graphic novels and children's books). In previous years I logged about 75-100 books. I just finished Book Riot's Read Harder 2020 challenge. That was the first book challenge I participated in.

Why did you join this group and choose this challenge?
I didn't particularly love the prompts for the Book Riot Challenge this year, and a booktuber I follow, Soggy Expat Book Nerd, does the Pop Sugar challenge every year so I thought I would give it a try. I joined this group because the ŷ group for Read Harder was useful for getting "unstuck" on challenges.

Did you come over from the 2020 group?
No, but I like the concept.

message 21: by Randi (new)

Randi | 1 comments Hello from Pittsburgh, PA! My name is Randi and I am a mom and wife, social worker, and a yoga teacher-in-training. I am active in community theatre and open to see what the new year will bring.

My favorite genre is magical realism, which I didn’t realize was a thing until I read this year’s list. My favorite authors are many, but Philip Pullman will always feel like coming home. My current favorite series from the past year is The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. Last year I read 106 books. Which is double my general goal and all due to insomnia during quarantine. I completed the 2020 Popsugar challenge - all 50 books. I only feel like I cheated a little with “close your eyes and read the first book you touch on the bookshelf prompt because I mainly read ebooks. I remedied this with doing this prompt with my daughter at bedtime. I am choosing this challenge again because it was so much fun last year, along with a book club with my yoga studio. I’ve also started focusing more on number of pages rather than number of book because I love listening to short stories on my commute to work (when I am not working from home) and I don’t feel like an 8 page book and a 735 page book should be counted as the same. My goals this year are to read at least 52 books and 20,000 pages., while comp

message 22: by Catherine Poff (new)

Catherine Poff | 3 comments This is my first challenge and I’m very excited.

I started early (that’s how excited I am) and have completed a book everyone seems to have read but me (“Elinore Oliphant Is Completely Fine) and a bestseller from the 90’s (“Vanished by Danielle Steele).

I’m now reading a book set in the outdoors (“Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer).

I love the idea of this challenge because I’m broadening my horizons as far as the types of books I’m reading.
