Carol by Patricia Highsmith - the best love story I read in a while.

´¡²ú¾±²µÃ©±ô by Magda Szabó - one of the best Hungarian books gets an English translation. Still fresh and riveting.

BEST NONFICTION
Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China - riveting history, written like a novel - and I learned so much about China and the Chinese people.

BEST ON AUDIO
I enjoyed a lot of great audiobooksthis year. But the one wherethe performance made a huge difference was the Emily Wilson translation of the The Odyssey, narrated by Claire Danes.
I also recommend the Rivers of London series narrated by Kobna Holbrook-Smith.
