Hey! So I was thinking we can volunteer together. I'll do the first two checkpoints and you can do the last two since you have exams rn. Is that ok?

I'll have to read Shadow and Bone as well tho, before 23th April. EXCITED.

We are at checkpoint A, so:
1. Are you already in love with the crew and why your answer is indeed a big YES?
2. Who's your favorite character so far?
3. OTP? (I know you'll probably have at least three at this point)
4. This book had me fangirling like I hadn't in ages, the characters, the setting, it's just so good. Is this the first book from Leigh Bardugo you read?

1. The characters were fantastic. I loved the Ocean's Eleven vibes. I also enjoyed that it was a ya but her characters had real problems that it made sense for them to be in a gang.
2. My favourite was Nina but Inez is probably the best character. (Although now that I'm thinking my favourite character was always the one who's chapter it was.)
3. Nina and Mathias for sure. Whesper is so cute though but that's more book 2.
4. This was the first of many Bardugo for me.

1. I can't say I am in love with the crew but I like it. I like Inej and Kaz. At this point, Matthias has only been introduced. I like Nina though and her justness.
2. My favourite character so far is Inej, she's quiet mostly hidden but she's smart and doesn't miss anything.
3. OTP I have at this point is Kaz and Inej, Nina and Matthias.
4. It's my first book from Leigh Bardugo and I am liking it so far.

1. I fell head over heels for all of them. I've always liked mistfits and underdogs so I felt this crew strongly. The more I went on, the more I loved them and their interactions.
2. My fave is probably Inej too. She's amazing and her arc is so well written. Also I have a penchant for acrobat assassins in general since Drizzt Do'Urden, so...
3. Although I like both Inej and Kaz and Whesper is definitely a thing, Matthias and Nina are my fave OTP. Their dynamic is gold and it's just thrilling to read.
4. It was my first and sure as Hell not the last. I plan to read all there is to read from L. Bardugo

1. i believe i was enamoured with the idea of the crows even before i read the book tbh! they were so, so popular right from the start.... now that i've read it, i think people, which includes me, tend to love them a lot because the way they care for each other feels indiscriminately real and warm. they change each other and bring out everything -good, bad, and anything in between while always accepting it with open arms. that's the truest form of love i can picture.... plus, misfists!!!
2. at first, inej! mostly cause she's a badass. now when im approaching the end, definetly inej, nina and jesper. (view spoiler)
3. eheheh wylan and jesper!! my little dorks
4. it wasn't the first leigh bardugo book i read! i first read shadow and bone back in 2015, then spent years without reading but last year i picked up the trilogy and six of crows,
i hope everyone is enjoying this series as much as i am/did!!!
Now I understand why you guys are using the word Whesper, I didn't know that Jesper was gay but now I get it so I wasn't rooting for them. That's good to know though.

Oh no, I hope I didn't inadvertently spoiled something? D:
I'm glad the crew is growing on you btw, their relationships are gorgeous.

Oh not a bit! I wasn't able to pick their growing relationship out but now I see it and I like it a lot! I like their pair, in fact now I would say I like Nina and Matthias more l, given how they met and how they grew to an understanding which is still growing!
And yeah, I am falling in love with the crew, ❤️

Yay!
I’m so happy you liked it.
Book 2 will break your heart.💔

We have reached checkpoint B so
1. What do you think of this piece of backstory between Nina and Matthias?
2. Let's talk about Kaz Brekker. Do you like him? Does it bother you that he is an anti-hero?
3. The setting: you think it's convincing? Does it feel like a cohesive world to you?
4. The scene at the port: did you expect it?

Yay! No worries..here are my thoughts:-
1. I really liked this backstory about Nina and Matthias because it gave an insight on what happened and prior to this revelation, my favourite pair was Kaz and Inej but well, knowing this backstory made me rethink about that. I actually got more connected with Nina and Matthias. And I loved the interaction between both of these which happened in the backstory.
2. Firstly, I wouldn't say he's an anti-hero, he has some very interesting rumours going about him which make him seem one but well, I actually like his way of thinking, so yes I love this character, he's confident, witty and charming. To survive in such a world, one needs these qualities, so I don't mind him being portrayed somewhat like an anti-hero. And his backstory is revealed in this part too, so that eliminates any negative thoughts about him, if there had been any.
3. I like the crew and the setting of the Dregs, but not the world in general and I don't think it's a cohesive world but surely it's a cohesive team on mission.
4. No, it was totally unexpected for me.

2. @Rushali, I think Kaz would disagree with your assessment of his capacities lol at first I wasn't overly captured by Kaz. Don't kill me, but I didn't see the hype. But, he's cunning, a mastermind, and hell-bent on his goals, and those are qualities I love in a character. Also, he's a survivor and that's a skill in itself.
3. I have to say I had some trouble with the world building (maybe because I didn't read the first trilogy) so it took some time to really "enter" it, but overall I think it's cohesive enough.
4. Me too! I was like wait WHAT. And I was thoroughly distracted with what was happening to Inej so I didn't pay enough attention to the rest too. And the scene over the crates melted me.
Fabitha wrote: "1. I really enjoyed their background, and I think they are the steamiest couple. Like argh, just kiss you two idiots. Also, Nina is a very strong character and I love her.

You are always so good in expressing thoughts, I think, I fail mostly, in expressing what's going on in my head.......I feel the same way about the question 4, I was too focused on Inej and yeah, the crates scene melted me too...
I like your evaluation about this part of book! :-)

2. I guess I like how the other characters interact with Kaz but I don't think I really like his character. (I know people are yelling at me) I do like that all of the characters are anti-heros because it makes a more interesting read.
3. I never struggled with the world building, but I was slow on the uptake that Ravka is based on Russia and they start off in not Amsterdam. I loved the band of misfits completing an impossible heist trope.
4. I was not expecting the betrayal at all.

Yeah it's like steampunk Xmen meets The Italian Job or Ocean's Eleven.
I am curious as to why some people have abilities and some don't, btw.
Thanks, Rushali, I swear I'm making things up as I go lol this is why I like this discussions, they help me focus impressions into words
Ok so here we go with Checkpoint C!
1. Did you enjoy this specific part of the book? What are your thoughts about it?
2. Do you think that Matthias has started liking the crew and feeling a part of it?
3. If you had to define each character of the crew with a single word, what would it be?
4. Who's your favorite character now, in the book and why?
5. Each character of the crew, have their own troubled pasts. Which character do you feel most connected with, or sympathize with?
