Maybe it wouldn’t have felt so long if I had listened to the audiobook. I like that the “noise in the book was in a different font style but it probably would have been better to hear it. Who knows, if I had listened to the audiobook maybe I would want to pick up the next book in the series.

The text is a little difficult to read, being written as if he were speaking. Wish I could find the audiobook of it. Not sure how the Noise would be done in an audiobook.
I want to know what Ben showed him, what Todd would’ve found out when he becomes a man. Everyone keeps hinting at the dark past of Prentisstown but not saying anything. It helps me relate to Todd with his frustration of not knowing.
I waited to watch the movie trailer till I got a little further in the book, didn’t want any spoilers. I’m not sure how I will feel about the movie when I finish the book.
“If one of us falls, we all fall. Wonder how much that has to do with Prentisstown history? I think Viola is on to something, that the army is just after Todd to prove a point.
Was anything true about the situation with the Spackles? Or was that just something with Prentisstown?
I like that they haven't given it away what happened and what it is about Prentisstown that’s so messed up. It keeps me reading to find out. Little annoying but at least I'm in the same boat as the main character.
MANCHEE!!!!!!
What is the “Law? With all the adults speaking about it but not explaining it to Todd makes you/ Todd feel like a child. The adults are talking and if you ask about it, they tell you don’t worry about it or ignore your questions and move on with life. The author is doing a good job keeping the main character a “child.
I figured it wasn’t the Spackle. They feared/blamed what they didn’t know/understand. And when killing the Spackle didn’t solve their problems, they found something new to blame. I understand why the other towns just exiled Prentisstown but they should have made sure there was no possible way for them to ever leave. I don’t think knowing about what happened in Prentisstown makes Todd guilty of it as well. He was an infant when it happened and had no idea of the true history of the town. I doubt when they told him the “truth on his birthday, that it would be the whole truth.
That was a horrible cliffhanger! That is a dirty trick to make you get the next book asap!
Thoughts After:
Those poor main characters! One horrible thing after another. Ness goes after these character’s hope with a vengeance. I understand ending it on a cliffhanger but, oh my goodness, it took me so long to get through the book that the only reason I’d pick up the next is to see if Viola lives. Reading it almost felt like I was trudging along with Todd and Viola. It was getting to the point where you could tell when something horrible was about to happen, it happened so often. It wasn’t a bad book; I wouldn’t say I didn’t enjoy it, but it was getting tiring waiting to find out key plot points. I was almost 85% of the way through it before we found out about Prentisstown and the Law. It wasn’t bad but it dragged.
