Nym (nymheriaaa) | 32 comments I really liked this book. Could have used a bit more horrific elements, in my opinion, but dark fantasy is good enough for me. I found Immanuel very likeable. Ezra was okay, a little annoying at times and from his end, a little too "insta-love" for my taste. The ending with the witches and monsters was fun, and I liked that the book took the idea of good and evil and turned it into a gray area. 4/5 stars for me.

Mindy'sBookJourney (mindysbookjourney) | 28 comments I enjoyed this book so much. I liked the atmosphere and vivid religious imagery. I gave it 4 stars.

Jamie Zaccaria I liked this book! Good enough for 4 stars but not amazing enough for 5.

I enjoyed this! I love a complicated discussion about good vs evil and how evil should be defeated (like should we stoop to their level to stop bad people etc etc). I felt like the ending was a little shallow, just like okay we'll show the prophet mercy and that's it. I would have liked a little more about the repercussions of that. I also feel like the whole big scene where the four witches arrive was SSOOOOOOO fast and then they're defeated and that's it. For being such a dark, looming presence in the book, I thought they would have factored more into the end.
I really enjoyed the set up and the Witch-Trial feel to the book, though. As well as the casual diversity (I always love when POC characters or LGBTQ characters can just exist in stories). 4/5

A_Clockwork_Moon | 9 comments I loved this book, I gave it 4.5 stars! The mention of spiders as big as lambs: YIKES! I agree that the ending was a bit rushed and I would have liked to see the prophet punished... but I guess we will find out more in the second book of the series, which I’m sure is going to be named The Year of Dawn ;)
