I'm a New Testament scholar and Roman historian who recently published the first two books in a historical fiction series set in Roman Asia Minor, the time and place of Paul's missionary travels. The books are not about Paul or Christianity, though they do appear here and there in the stories. They're about the world in which Paul and his co-workers did their preaching, and they offer a good picture of the religious world of that era that can help Christian readers to understand what Paul was up against. There's a lot about the place of Judaism in the Roman world, and a lot about Roman religious as well. The books are not "inspirational" in the sense of promoting Christian faith, but they do talk a lot about religion.
As a historian, I have been meticulous about ensuring the historical and cultural accuracy of every detail in the books. That includes how people talked (as far as we know), so I would rate the books PG-13. There's no explicit sex or violence, but there's talk about both, and the language is a bit "salty" at times, since that's how people talked back then. I certainly don't talk that way!
To learn more about the series, see my Website at . Here you will find reviews by fellow scholars, plot summaries of both books (and the third, not yet written), links to their pages on Amazon (where they're getting five-star reviews!), an author bio and interview, and lots of links and blog posts dealing with Roman social life as it relates to the novels.
I also tweet regularly about the Roman world (including pictures as @asslavesstory, and I post less often on Facebook at . My Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ author page is /author/show..., where you can also find links to the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ page for both books.
If anyone has a blog page or other avenue for posting reviews or notices about the books to a broader audience, let me know and I'll send you PDFs of both books for free!
