Haven't heard of this one at all, but it sounds intriguing. Managed to get a copy off PDFDuck, so will try it.

love the storytelling method that is purposeful to teach lessons, super lovely!this book is so delightful I'm enjoying it, sad about her cousin though
dark but whimsical, LOVE it really love that she had this unique ability to (view spoiler).. Which is how she (view spoiler)
genuinely though, I would not recommend reading it in the dark alone, super creepy, lolCAN I JUST SAY I LOVE JAY LOL HE'S AN IDIOT BUT I LOVE HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH ELLIEEEE
Just love how she actually talks to her parents, such a difference from our usual main characters lol

Ch1-5. It does read quite young, but I’m liking the way Elatsoe is presented, and how she interacts with those around her.
First quarter. There is a whimsical feel to this, but I think with such a focus on death and how we manage our feelings about it that is to be expected. Strange how they all react to Elatsoe’s dream and the suggestion of murder-but there is something strange about the town of Willabee.

Up to ch19. I’m amazed by how calm the family are about the possibility of her cousin being murdered. The whole set-up of the town is strange-why do the inhabitants keep staring at them?
Up to ch23. No doubt that Elatsoe and Jay read as younger characters in the way they speak and behave. That aside, I’m enjoying the way her heritage is simply part of her character.
This was a curious read. It felt a little weirdly ‘sold�, as if it was a middle grade story swapped to YA to get more readers. I enjoyed it, loved Elatsoe and certainly would say I’d enjoyed it.

The family set-up and the depiction of their world really engaged me. I liked the way they accepted their skills and nurtured their talent, while being respectful of others' beliefs.
There are some differences. This America has been shaped dramatically by the magic, monsters, knowledge, and legends of its peoples, those Indigenous and those not. Some of these forces are charmingly everyday, like the ability to make an orb of light appear or travel across the world through rings of fungi. But other forces are less charming and should never see the light of day.
Elatsoe lives in this slightly stranger America. She can raise the ghosts of dead animals, a skill passed down through generations of her Lipan Apache family. Her beloved cousin has just been murdered in a town that wants no prying eyes. But she is going to do more than pry. The picture-perfect facade of Willowbee masks gruesome secrets, and she will rely on her wits, skills, and friends to tear off the mask and protect her family.
