It will be nice to revisit this one. I may even do a movie rewatch. Helena Bonham Carter was so good in it, and she and Julian Sands are so perfectly beautiful. (and Daniel Day-Lewis was a freaking delight!)

CDB | 44 comments This makes me so happy. It’s one of my all time favorite books and it’s been far too many years since I sat down with it. Can’t wait to read - and watch, helloooooo Rupert Graves I see you too.

The movie holds up SO well! And Rupert is my favorite character! Him and the Rev Beebe.

I read the book years ago, maybe I should do a reread.

I will be re-reading. I cannot separate the book from the film in my head so a re-read is essential. Luckily it is no hardship. And yes, the movie does hold up well. Daniel Day Lewis is perfect, and Julian Sands and HBC are both great in the roles and beautiful to watch.

I thought some of you might enjoy these "A Room With a View" extras.

(This is excellent, but behind a paywall, for for those who do not subscribe to the Journal, because this month's theme is travel, I offer the following quote:

"Before long, “the pernicious charm of Italy starts to take hold of Lucy. Moments before George first kisses her on a country outing, Lucy succumbs first to the Florentine landscape. “Light and beauty enveloped her. She had fallen on to a little open terrace, which was covered with violets from end to end. Despite Forster’s generally droll tone, passages like these help us live vicariously—at least briefly—in the Italy of our imagination."

And I am also including this review of the (wonderful) film version because it is a gas. It speaks of the wonders of new actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who really is spectacular as Cecil.

Thalia | 16 comments Yay, I'm looking forward to this one! I've read A Room With a View, but it was probably 30 years ago!

It was even longer ago for me. (Lord I feel old when I say things like that!) I do recall loving it and am excited to revisit.

Allie (allieeveryday) | 119 comments Looking forward to discussing this because I just finished and I need people to tell me what to think. Satire is hard, yo.

Certainly it is a satirical look at English society (Cecil and Charlotte are hilarious -- and Miss Lavish!) but there is a non-satirical heart to the book as well. George is everybody's conscience, and I suspect he is the voice of EM Forster.
