Let's face it:
Every single book, whether it's fantasy or non-fiction, has a bias. Whether the author was a Christian or an atheist, the worldview will bleed through the pages into your recognition of the book.

When is it too much?

Here's an example: should I read Marx's Communist Manifesto even though it's a terrible premise (according to my own worldview)?

That's what this thread is about. Is it good or bad to read books that have a worldview that doesn't line up with your own, and when should you reject a book because it's too far afield?

I believe it's a great plan to read books that are written from a different worldview as it can be very educational. But when the book is just preaching the author's worldview? That's where I stop.

Thoughts, my good debaters?

Book - Dragon I think people should definitely read books from worldviews different from their own. You should know what the other side believes so you can defend what you believe.

Agreed, Kaylee.
Do you have limits on how far you'll go?

Book - Dragon Hmmmm... I am really bad at telling of a book is preaching something to me that COMPLETELY disagrees with my worldview so I don't really know my limits. I've never read The Golden Compass which is an utterly anti Christian or anti any faith really book. Maybe that where I draw the line.

I've never read it either... although I might.
I mean, I honestly don't have a major line. I think what I hate the most is when a book is saying something that I don't agree with but being subtle and slimy about it, like the author is trying to sneak their belief system into your brain without you realizing it.
I also refuse to read Ayn Rand's works.
But that's a different thread...
