If it's not too long, I would love to read the Matador series by Steve Perry, starting with The Man Who Never Missed
It has nine books but they're all on the shorter side.

My apologies! I'll send it out again.

I'm going to toss the Uplift series by David Brin into the ring. I have read it once before, but a very long time ago, don't remember it all that well, and have been wanting to read it again. I think there's a lot to chew on there that would make for a good group discussion.

Hi Mary, Lord of the Rings is a fantasy series. Would you like to propose something science fiction?

I will nominate the Neanderthal Parallax trilogy by Robert J. Sawyer: Hominids, Humans, and Hybrids. Something quite different from space-based or dystopian SF.

Whoops!
The Spiral Arm, by Eifelheim starting with The January Dancer. Four books

This is a 10 book series and I would consider these a mix of Military SF and Space Opera.
I first became aware of this through my (to be) husband. He was a huge fan of the original anime series that ran from the late 80s through the mid 90s. It was never dubbed or professionally subtitled so we watched fan subs. For a very dialog heavy series, it meant blinking could mean you missed an important plot point.
From what I could understand (I did not have subtitles for all of it) its quite fascinating mix with interesting characters, motivations, and a lot of politics.
A new animated series has since come out in English, though it is not as faithful to the books as the first one from what I understand.
In recent years the novels the original anime series were created from have become translated into English and my husband has been riding me to read them ever since.
The books are written from a historical perspective.
Hard to choose from nine great suggestions! Cast your vote at the preliminary series poll - poll closes on the 25th!

GUIDELINES:
--Each member can nominate one series.
—The series should be complete, as far as you can tell. I realize authors sometimes revisit a series years later, but as much as possible, we are looking to read a completed series.
—The series should be one we have not read and discussed as a group. Click here for a list of the past series we have read together.
—Please give the name of the series, the author, and how many books are in the series. Feel free to add the titles of the individual books, if you want.
—The series must be SF.
—Nominations do NOT require a second.
I will keep nominations open through December 19 and post preliminary polls on the 20th. Our final run-off poll will go up on December 26th.
Please post nominations in this thread here on the group page, not by responding to the broadcast message sent to your ŷ inbox.
