For sure to people who like dystopian ya. I watched the movies first and still liked the books.

I’d recommend this book overall. It’s a fairly short read and quite interesting.

Kaia | 235 comments Title: Woman World
Author: Aminder Dhaliwal
Would you recommend this book? Yes. It's short, funny and surprisingly hopeful for a book about a world where men have ceased to exist.

Jen W. (piratenami) | 496 comments Title: Vespertine
Author: Margaret Rogerson
Would you recommend this book? I enjoyed it a lot. It's YA, but I'd call it older YA. The female main character is a trainee nun with bigger concerns than romance on her plate, at least in the first book, which is refreshing. I consider it nonpatriarchal because the main religion of this world is headed by women, and worships primarily female saints.

Title: The Island of Sea Women
Author: Lisa See
Would you recommend this book? Absolutely. I love Lisa See's writing - it is so descriptive and the characters are we well-developed you feel like you really know them. On Jeju Island in South Korea, the women were the ones who worked and brought food home for their families, while the husbands cared for the children.

Would you recommend this book? Yes! This book is beautifully written and the story pulls you in from the beginning. Heartbreaking, but utterly wonderful.

Sherri Harris | 760 comments Title: The Women of Chateau Lafayette
Author: Stephanie Dray
Would you recommend this book? Yes, especially if you like historical fiction. The book wasn't set in or is about a non patriarchal society. It has three timelines, no time travel, 1774 France, WWI, & WWII, The women in each time line are there own women. Even though they live in a society governed by men their actions are governed by what they see is right. They are brave & they made their mark. Also I owned the book & it works for other challenges.

JessicaMHR | 548 comments So I started with the intention of using The Island of Sea Women but, didn't finish it before the library took it back. But, when that happened I slotted in The Bees instead. (I did end up finishing The Island of Sea Women today)

Recommend?
Yes, I ended up giving this one 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the story and the ending almost made me bawl my eyes out, but didn't quite land for me.
My Review: /book/show/4...

Author: Choo WaiHong
Would you recommend this book? YES! One of the best books of the year for me.
Non-fiction about the Mosuo tribe in Southwest China, which is the last matriarchal and matrilineal tribe on Earth.
I. Want. To. Move.
I don't have enough Chinese to make that a reality, sadly, but thanks to this book, I have a little Mosuo vocabulary now.
