No, but he has all the symptoms (tired, achy, sore throat, husky voice, dry cough) and a second positive RAT. He's starting to feel better so that's good news and friends have been dropping food over to him. We've finished our seven days of isolation and have negative RATs. Just in time as the fridge badly needs restocking with fresh food!

So bad when you can be better (or worse as the case may be) before you even get the results!! Glad his friends are dropping food in for him.

You don't order your groceries online Carolyn? I never had but started after Covid began in 2020.

I haven't tried online ordering yet. We have a great IGA nearby which is not inside a shopping mall and is next to a small car park. I've quite enjoyed getting out of the house during Covid and have been going there at 8am when it's dead quiet!

Sorry to hear about your son Carolyn but good he is starting to feel better despite symptoms. And what a blessing to have caring friends dropping food in.

That's a good idea! I pick up 'in between' bits and pieces from our local IGA and it always feels safe. I know what you mean about getting out of the house too!! lol

Yes very lucky to have caring friends, mostly his workmates as he works nearby, but really nice of them to do that, especially since we couldn't whilst also in isolation (although he is a frequent customer of Ubereats so we knew he wouldn't starve)

message 13: by Dale (last edited Jan 01, 2022 03:53PM) (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6762 comments Thanks Brenda, Carolyn,, Suzanne, Helen and Sharon for your kind thoughts about my sharing of our delayed family Christmas time together on the day of New Years .
New Years Eve itself dh and I were in bed till woken by fireworks at midnight. It went on for about ten minutes and then we went back to sleep. New Years Eve is usually a non event in our household.

We spent the night in. Husband, daughter, son & daughter’s boyfriend. Had lots of goodies to eat and drink and watched a movie then the fireworks.

A quiet night and woke at 2 minutes to 12 (a fluke) so got up and watched the Sydney fireworks on the ABC! They were spectacular. Then back to bed :)

I was in bed before midnight but as I live behind a food van park they had a DJ with doof, doof music going. To their credit they always let local residents know in advance and usually offer us a voucher for a free bottle of wine. As that kind of noise doesn’t happen very often, I can live with it. I also heard fireworks, not sure they would have been legal.

Carolyn | 9717 comments Krystal wrote: "Welcome to 2022! How did everyone spend their new year's eve?"

Since we were isolating and confined to the house, we couldn’t get enthused about staying up this year, so went to bed and read instead, although we did hear the Sydney fireworks at midnight (as well as several neighbourhood parties).

message 19: by Helen (new)

Helen (helen57) | 3202 comments We watched a couple of Lethal Weapon movies and then the midnight fireworks on ABC all the while settling our dog who does not like fireworks, then off to bed only to have our neighbour still enjoying their party till around 2.00am

All good now, lets hope 2022 is going to improve into something that we will enjoy

message 20: by Odette (last edited Jan 02, 2022 01:28PM) (new)

Odette (odman) | 1110 comments We had a quiet one at home. The top of the fireworks in Canberra are just visible. I agree with Helen, 'hope 2022 is going to improve into something we will enjoy'.
There is too much uncertainty at the moment as to whether to go out or just stay at home. It is a bit of a waiting game for us to see what happens with the omicrom hospitalisations, as my husband does not think he would do well if he caught it. Being vaccinated is no guarantee. Also things have gone from one extreme to another in a couple of months, (closed border between NSW and ACT), which I find it a it hard to get my head around.

message 21: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 2260 comments Yes we weren't particularly keen to get out amongst the crowds either, so just went to a local park and had a picnic. It has a great view of the city but because there were no rooftop fireworks this year, we could only just see the tops of the city fireworks. However, some people let them off in the park we were at, so we actually had a wonderful, up close view! Ended up being quite a perfect night under the stars for us. :)

I hope everyone has a much more fulfilling 2022!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9880 comments A belated Happy New Year to you all.
We didn't have a Christmas gathering this year, and were planning lunch in a restaurant on New Year's Day, but with case numbers soaring, my older sister decided to host a Ploughman's Lunch at hers, for DH and me, my younger sister and her partner. A very pleasant afternoon. I contributed a Dutch variation on my successful Peanut Butter Cream Pie, Speculaas Cream Pie.

After our lunch had settled, my sister and I had our traditional New Year's Day swim (15 years running now).

Colin Baldwin Hi all.
I just asked another ŷ member from Tassie if there was a way to send out a group message, you know, just to say Happy New Year, and hope ŷ in 2022 provides everyone enough distractions from the pandemic. I love reading all the stuff on ŷ, but sometimes a personal touch is needed.
She suggested this group as a start.

All the best everyone and keep safe. I look forward to learning more about how to write good reviews!

I noticed some members are uplodading photos. Here's one from me = yesterday on 7 Mile Beach, Tasmania with the extended family.

As I said, distractions from COVID! CB

Diana (secondhandrose) | 65 comments Last night my great niece (6) tested positive for Covid. We were all with her yesterday so had to be tested. All negative but I couldn’t get a RAT test anywhere so went and had a PCR and am waiting for my results. My booster was due today but they wouldn’t give it to me until I get a negative result. A bit of a pain. I’m still hoping to get a booster before I go back to work on Thursday.

Unfortunately PCR tests are coming back negative when they're actually positive. My daughter's neighbour had 3 negative PCR and a negative RAT before it went positive and she'd been sick (and at work after the negatives) for the week.

Now my daughter and her family all have it, and her first two PCRs came back negative before her positive. Same with her husband. So they're not infallible...

message 47: by Helen (new)

Helen (helen57) | 3202 comments That is not good at all Brenda, terrible that they PCR and RATs ar not picking up the positive as they should, I hope everyone is on the mend soon
