A couple of things to keep in mind:
Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.
Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Thursday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Friday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.
If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain week, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the week in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)
If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.
We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.
If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!
Captain's Handbook
The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.
The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role every week, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.
Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.
Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.
If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.
The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Is there anyone on the team that is interested in being captain?

Also, we get to pick a team name? I was thinking the number was the team name.

Speedy Readers

Serial Readers
Literazzi
I couldn't come up with anything that incorporated the word Ten. Other suggestions would be greatly appreciated =D

One point can be earned for reading three or more books in a series.
One point can be earned for reading a book with >500 pages.
One point can be earned for starting and finishing a series. There must be at least 4 books in that series. Series + spin-off totalling 4 books also counts. For series with >9 books, point will be awarded for reading books 1-9. For still ongoing series, all books published to date (OR up to #9 in longer series) must be read.~ No re-reads on this one.
2 in 1: One point can be earned for reading a book that fits both the series number and the alternate for the spot you are on.
One point can be earned for never picking a book from the alternate lists. This point is awarded when your team rolls past 90.
Valentine's Bonus: One point can be earned for reading a Romance book for the roll on 02/11.
NOTE:
Each point can only be earned once per team.
The series-specific bonus points (3 or more books/ starting and finishing a series) must be two different series.
Single book bonuses (>500 pages/ Valentine's/ 2 in 1) may overlap with a series bonus.
How to use bonus points:
Bonus points can be added to your roll to move you further along the board. Each bonus point can only be earned once and spent once.
Bonus points may be used for the win. Example: Your team rolls and lands on spot 97. Your team has earned 4 bonus points. You can use your bonus points to move to spot 101 and compete for the win.
You don't have to use all your bonus points at the same time.
You can also use your bonus points earlier in the game. Example: Your team has earned 3 bonus points. Your team rolls and lands on spot 88. A team member doesn't have a book that is either #8 in a series or fits the alternate. They do however have a #9. Your team may decide to use 1 bonus point to move to spot 89 and have 2 bonus points remaining for later use.

Okay I if that happens I will check us in and roll etc.

Thanks!

Review:
It is the first book of The Rat Series. This is one of Murakami's very first novella. The story is pretty clean and simple. However a bit shallow I would say. The novella takes place within 3 weeks of the summer of 1970 where the narrator in his early 20s describes his last few days in his small town. I guess this sets up the stage for the rest of the series. It was sort of "OK read".Â

Book and Author: If Walls Could Talk by Juliet Blackwell

Rating: 3/5
Review (Min 3 sentences)
23 Jan 2022
1. Home renovator gets roped into consulting with a friend's project, discovers a fatally wounded acquaintance, starts seeing ghost of said acquaintance, and gets roped into doing a murder investigation because (a) curiosity and (b) the ghost in the backseat is whining at her about it.
2. This was pretty fun, actually. The characters are not deep and the pacing was sometimes off. But the characters were charming in their own broad-strokes kinda way (they may not have had depth, but they definitely had personality and honestly I'll take it), the prose was competent, there were a lot of interesting little details that showed the author was invested in the worldbuilding, and the character interactions made me smile a few times. Quirky characters are good for that.
3. I'm a little unsure of how I feel about the plot. There are elements of the mystery that are interesting (the historical bits, for example) but most of the investigation was given over to introducing side characters/suspects. Which is not always bad, but it does get boring when there is very little variation between characters. Their motivations are also deeply boring and honestly- (view spoiler) at least in fiction. Also, there was this whole middle part of the book which moved glacially because I had no idea why half the things or people mattered. It was salvaged a bit because the prose was good and characters were quirky, but most of that also happened outside of the murder investigation bits.
4. The MC's family and adopted family are great. Her ghost tagalong is also great. The little scenes between these characters were probably my favorite parts of the book. The budding romance between the MC and what looks a deeply boring alpha male type love interest doesn't actually take up that much page space, but I really didn't want whatever I got of it. Shoo. Go away. Give me more scenes with the dad and the adopted uncle and the stepson instead. Why must you plague my murder/family narratives with cliche romance?
5. Overall, I think I'd have liked the book better if there was more focus on the historical drama and the older ghosts, more emotion and less exposition on the ghost whisperer stuff, better motivations for the potential murderers, and less romance but more family time. I can still see potential though, so I'm almost definitely going to pick up another book by this author eventually.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Review:
I really enjoyed this story. This was a Reese's book club choice. I had put off reading this for quite awhile. Once I started I could not stop reading. It hooked me in the first chapter and had to know what happened. This was a story about relationships and there was a mystery that was intriguing. It makes you question do you really know people you are involved with. i recommend this if you are looking for a book to settled down with over a weekend.

I always find Mary Roach can bring information to you in a fun way. Her books are detailed but she makes dry information fun. I always learn new stuff in her books. This one is about animals doing harm to our world but really, they are just being animals doing what animals do - survive. I learn more about animal scat than I thought I could. LOL.

Review: The story was a little dated, but I still managed to enjoy it. I really liked the relationship between Cam and his brothers, and the newest addition to the family - Seth. I actually enjoyed the interactions between the brothers more than I enjoyed the interactions between Cam and Anna. The romance is usually my favorite part of any book, but their interactions were just a little too cheesy for me. It's the brothers that made the book for me, and I definitely plan to read the rest of the books in the series dedicated to Ethan, Phillip, and Seth.
