Movie-lovers and bookworms rejoice! This is the perfect event to kick back, relax, and change things up a bit!
How It Works:
- You can recommend a book for our book list (read more about that below) OR you can just take part.
- There's no need to sign up to take part, just join in the conversation below.
- This readathon starts in March 2022 (countdown below).
- Recommendations for our book list closes on 25th February.
- I will feed the books from our book list into a random picker.
- Using the link below (not yet added), access the random picker, spin the wheel, and it’ll randomly pick a book from our list for you to read.
- Read the book, then watch the movie/show adaptation, and let us know your thoughts on it are below!
- Then spin the wheel of the random picker again and it’ll choose another book for you.
- Try to read what the random picker picks for you but if you don’t have access to that book yet or if it chooses a book you’ve already read for the readathon or that you've already read before or that you don't want to read/have DNF'ed/aren't interested in then spin it again and it’ll choose something different.
- Alternatively, you can just ignore the random picker and read anything on the list that you like, but the random picker makes it more fun.
- If you want you can watch the adaptations before reading the respective book OR you can just watch the adaptation or just watch the book. Basically, have fun with it, this is a very relaxed readathon!
IF YOU WANT TO RECOMMEND A BOOK FOR THE BOOK LIST:
The Rules on Recommending:
- The book must have been adapted into a TV show or a movie.
- You can recommend between 1-4 books to add to the list.
- The book you recommend can be MG, YA, Adult or New Adult.
- The book can belong to any genre.
- The book can be a graphic novel or manga (i.e. anime show/movie adaptations are also allowed).
- The book must be in English or translated to English books are also allowed.
- The book must be more than 100 pages long.
- The book cannot be from the middle of a series if it's not possible to read the book outside of the series and still understand it.

Good question! It has to already have come out BUT you can mention future adaptations here for people to look forward to (I'm going to be doing that as soon as I finish typing it out).
If this readathon is a success I plan on making it a yearly thing so if there's something coming out later in the year then it can end up being on next year's book list.

Hey everyone, I've added the full book list and random picker above!
You can roll the random picker to pick your first books here now:

I was also trying to spin for a movie but I got The Bad Beginning (which I’ve also been meaning to read) and Pride and Prejudice (which I’m not going to read again because I just read it for class last semester) but I will watch the movie again!
My first spin got me The Book Thief which I do have a physical copy of but I remember the first time I tried reading it I found it super boring so I’m going to give it a miss and instead read Nightbooks which I’ve had my eye on ever since it was recommended. I’ve already got myself a copy so I’m going to start reading it as soon as I finish the current book I’m reading!

Anne of Green Gables, been wanting to read this forever. I tried a few years ago but it seemed boring so Im going to try the audiobook version I vaguely remember audible having their own audiobook of it with a narrirator I liked, I was listening to samples trying to figure out if they had enough MG stuff to get a subscription, and they have tons.
@Aurora oooh I love The Field Guide! Even I was considering rereading it—for a 4th time! The last time I read it was in 2019 so even though I remember the whole plot really well because of how much I love it, enough time has gone by to go for a reread.
Also if the audiobook version of Anne of Green Gables doesn't do it for you I really recommend reading this manga version: Anne of Green Gables. I read it at the end of last year and it was good. It's a pretty faithful adaptation I think because it was a lot like the show Anne with an E. And it was really beautifully illustrated!

The Book Thief ultimately got 2 stars from me. Movie was much better.

I remember watching the movie and even that bored me😬 Too slow! Maybe I should rewatch it now but it's not interesting to do that when you already remember the whole plot.

Aha sorry for making you wait for the book list! Everyday I was like I'm going to do it and then I didn't😂 Procrastination at its finest!
My friend loooves the Shadow and Bone books/show. She really tried to convince me to read and watch it but I saw some reviews for the show that made me think yeeeah nah. I'm super interested in Six of Crows and that gang but not Shadow and Bone and those characters.
I hope you like the Bad Beginning! It's a fun and short read. I've watched the first 2 seasons of A Series of Unfortunate Events and it's enjoyable but also repetitive and sort of tedious. In my opinion it's much too long. There are some great parts but much like the books it moves to the conclusion of the mystery at such an infuriatingly slow pace.

02/03 - 1st spin: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken.
I have it available as an audiobook on Scribd.

I have it available as both an ebook and audiobook on Scribd.

You know both of the movie adaptations for those books had Amandla Stenberg playing the protagonist. That's such a funny coincidence! And they both came out in the same year. It's pretty cool that out of the whole list it chose those 2 for you!
If you're busy with other challenges then no worries! It's always fun to spin the picker anyway, right😂 I love doing it even though I rarely listen to it's choices.
You could always just watch the movies instead of reading the books. For this challenge that's enough too.

Wow, I had no idea! That's awesome! haha
I will be patient with myself but still will try to read these. I'm sure I'll have so much fun.
Aah sorry Aurora I should’ve posted the book list earlier😩 procrastination got the better of me.
Eden I hope you get better soon!

Its okay the field guide came in should be able to get it next week, which works because I have 3 unread library books. I checked out 2 from the whats new display last time I was there.

EdenB15 wrote: "Doing noughts and crosses soon. Book thief was enjoyable but not sure when I’m gonna watch the movie"
I read Noughts and Crosses when I was younger. I don't remember any of it except that (view spoiler) Such a random thing to remember😂 That might be from one of the later books in the series to be honest. And also may not be about the protagonist. Or may not even be from that series... I just remember it and associate it with that book for some reason🤔
Anyway looking forward to seeing what you think about it!

It's taking me forever to get through Nightbooks because I keep reading so many things at once but I'm happy I'm still reading it even after I felt like DNFing it earlier in the week! It's not bad, I'm just super distracted😩

Tuck Everlasting
Book: 4/5 stars
I went into the book having already seen the broadway musical which I loved, so I already had an attachment to the story. I guess that makes my review a bit biased, but I honestly really liked this book! It was super fun and lighthearted, and I especially like the writing style- it reminded me a lot of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Movie: 2/5 stars
Pretty disappointing. It stayed fairly true to the plot, but didn’t really do the characters or themes of the book justice. I especially hated that they changed the main character’s age (in the book she is 10 and in the movie they made her a teenager) just to add in a romance which was not in the book. :(
Broadway Musical (bc why not): 5/5 stars
Honestly better than the book in my opinion. It portrayed the characters personalities and the themes of the story really well, and only changed the plot slightly. It took areas where the book was lacking, and really improved them and added more depth to the story.

Then I think I might let the random picker choose my next read. I usually either just choose from the list, or spin the picker over and over again until it gives me the book I want. 😂 But it’d be nice to read something that I might not normally pick out for myself, so I’ll try to actually read the book it gives me first spin.

Nightbooks is dragging so so much. No matter how much I read it I hardly seem to make progress! It's like the witch in the book has put a spell on me so I can't leave the book just like she puts a spell on the protagonist so he can't leave the apartment!
I've made it halfway but it's slowing me down so much that I just feel like dropping it. I'm not going to yet but I'm going to put it aside and start something else so I can actually get through something for this challenge...

I love that you reviewed the broadway musical too😂 Now this is what I'm talking about! I love how fully you've embraced the spirit of this readathon!
Have you watched To All the Boys I've Loved Before yet? I only watched the first movie in that movie series and it was a little cringe but still kind of enjoyable. Not too bad! I'd give it a solid 6.8 out of 10.
I've never read the books before though so I was coming just from a movie watcher's perspective.

It is amazing. Upside Down magic that series is adorable.

The movie was meh. Disney you could have done so much better.

I'm surprised your friend felt like that because as someone who never read the book I felt like I fully understood the movie. They probably left stuff out from the book but it still made sense, well as much sense as YA romance movies can make😂 After watching To All the Boys I've Loved Before I watched The Kissing Booth movie and it turned me off both of the movie series and so I've never watched the sequel movies for either.
They're both netflix and came out at similar times so I equate the 2 series in my mind

Lol people have laughed at how specific I get with my .8 ratings😂 I rarely do it with books but I get very specific for movie ratings.
Also I know right, Disney was VERY quiet about the Upside Down Magic movie. The first I heard of it having been made was when someone suggested it for the list and I was shocked. Maybe they were so quiet about it because it's not that good a movie😬 But I'm saying that as someone who hasn't watched the movie or even read the book. It seems some people here have liked the movie and some people haven't.
I wonder if I could watch and enjoy the movie without having read the book...
