John Pansini | 26 comments I don't know whether or not KGB and KGB TODAY, both by John Barron, are on your reference shelf; if not, they should be. They should also be readily available. THE SHADOW FACTORY by James Bamford is a NSA classic.

I have my own extensive collection of nonfiction books and articles about espionage. No fiction, however; sorry aficionados.

Thank ye JP.

For NSA topics, we have Chatter: Dispatches from the Secret World of Global Eavesdropping already on our shelves; and I may also add your recommendation after I look into it a little bit.

Even 'Chatter' was a little bit too modern to make it an enjoyable read for me; but a good portion of it covers everything back to the beginning of eavesdropping and has furnished me with many useful items.
