MountainKat | 30695 comments 🌹The Bachelor Team Challenge - Round 8🌹
🌹Theme - We Made It to Eight!🌹

Date 5 - E - TASK ANNOUNCEMENT

E is for Earbasher
- Read a book that is at least 300 pages.

To qualify for this task, the selected book needs to have a first edition Kindle edition 300 pages or over.

Remember books must be 90 pages (first edition English language Kindle) and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, August 5 @ Midnight US EDT to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #3 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts!

MountainKat | 30695 comments Date 5 - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 5.

Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.

Don't make more work for yourself than necessary - if the qualifier is in the title or on the cover, use it! You don't have to go searching for tags to make it work. 😊 If the link you use for the book is the same you are using for the book details or cover - say so (see above edition or something similar)! That saves us all some steps. But please double check your links!

You may use separate editions of your Scavenger Hunt books to qualify for the different tasks. Links MUST be provided.

E is for Earbasher - Read a book that is at least 300 pages.

To qualify for this task, the selected book needs to have a first edition Kindle edition 300 pages or over.

E is for Edifice - Read a book with a building on the cover.

To qualify for this task, the cover needs to clearly and obviously show the exterior of a building. You can use any edition's cover to qualify, but please include the qualifying cover in your completion post.

E is for Ego - Read a book written in first person pov.

To qualify for this task, the select book/s need to be written in the first person pov - I, me, mine. The book can alternate pov between main characters, but needs to be first person for each character. Qualification can come from tags or lists only for this task.

E is for Erotic - Read the book tagged as ‘hot or ‘steamy.

To qualify for this task, the selected books need to be tagged as 'hot' or 'steamy', alone or combined. The qualification for this task comes from tags/shelves ONLY. The tag does not have to be MPG, but the book must be tagged at least once to qualify. Please include a link to the top shelves page of your book's qualifying tag (not to the people who have used that tag or to the shelf for the tag!), the number of tags and the top shelves page number in your completion post. This information helps if the link is broken or if the tag moves as they frequently do.

Yes, it is clear they are buildings - it's a soft focus, but not a blur.

It has to be 'hot' or 'steamy' - in context.

Yes, a house will work.

I start overthinking and second guessing everything myself, so I don't think that is a stupid question!

It doesn't sound to me like what you are describing is the exterior of a building. If you want an answer about a specific cover, feel free to PM me.

Maybe? It would have to be extremely obvious. Feel free to PM me the cover for an answer about your book.

Yes to the first question.

As for the cover, it is really pushing the boundaries of 'clearly and obviously', but I will allow it.

MountainKat | 30695 comments ‼️ A few requests from me. 😊 ‼️

Please include your team name/number in your completion posts in the SH thread. You are free to include that in any completion, but it is necessary in the SH thread so I credit the correct team with your claim!

Please check your links!! Many of the links throughout this challenge have been broken and I am left searching for your qualifications. This takes a lot of time especially when it occurs over and over.

Please link to the correct top shelves page. I know tags move, but if your link goes to the first page, but your qualifying tag is on page 35 of 100 it takes a lot of clicking to even get to the correct page.

Please include the exact tag you are using as your qualification in your completion post/s. This is what I will use to search for your qualification. It is also extremely helpful to have the number of tags and the page number. It gives me a starting point if the link is broken or the tag has moved.

Thank you!!

MountainKat | 30695 comments Date 6 - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 6.

Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.

Don't make more work for yourself than necessary - if the qualifier is in the title or on the cover, use it! You don't have to go searching for tags to make it work. 😊 If the link you use for the book is the same you are using for the page count and edition - say so (see above edition or something similar)! That saves us all some steps. But please double check your links!

You may use separate editions of your Scavenger Hunt books to qualify for the different tasks. Links MUST be provided.

L is for Lead - Read a book that begins a series.

To qualify for this task, the book has to be numbered 1 or lower in a numbered series listed on GR. Please provide the link to the series page in your completion post. For this task, the series must have a series page and be numbered on GR.

L is for Leafy - Read a book with a distinct plant on the cover.

To qualify for this task, the book's cover needs to show a distinct plant. I need to be able to distinguish at least one plant on the cover - a green blur in the distance is not going to work. To work, the cover needs to clearly and obviously show at least one plant. A tree, shrub, houseplant, flowering plant, etc will qualify, grass on the cover will not work. You can use any edition's cover to qualify for this task. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion post.

L is for Lighten - Read a book that has been unread on your GR shelves for over 5 years.

To qualify for this task, selected book/s need to have been unread on your GR shelves for over 5 years or as described below if you are newer to GR. Rereads will not be allowed for this task!
If you joined GR prior to or in 2016, you can use any unread book you added to your GR shelves in 2016 or earlier. Show the date you joined GR and the date the book was added in your completion posts.

If you joined GR in 2017 or later, you can read any of the first 200 books you added to GR. On your profile page click on 'name's' bookshelves (above the list of your shelves) - this will show all your books on GR. At the bottom of the page, set it to show 100 books per page. Click on 'date added' to sort by the date the book was added to your shelves. If the arrow is pointing down (showing most recently added books first), click again to reverse so it is showing the first books added. You can select any unread book on these first two pages of books for this task. Show the date you joined GR and the date the book was added in your completion posts.
This is using the date you joined GR not the date you joined RRRC.

L is for ??? - ???

To be revealed when the date begins.

MountainKat | 30695 comments I am sure there will be questions regarding Lighten. Exceptions may be made on an individual basis for this task depending on circumstances.

Ask or PM me if needed.

message 225: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30695 comments I decided to post the qualifications early because I will be away this weekend and won't be available to answer questions. Hopefully the extra time up front will get questions answered before the date begins.

Those that know me know that getting my hubby to agree to get away is an accomplishment! (A weekend away for anniversary is one thing, trying to get him across the country to visit our son and his family is a whole other adventure! 🤷🏻‍♀) We will be leaving early Saturday morning and won't get home until late Sunday. I will be posting the task announcement from my phone, but it might be delayed a little depending on what is going on at that time. I do have an alarm on my phone, but please be patient. 😊

Tallies and the Speed Dating Rose will be delayed until at the earliest Monday afternoon and possibly until Tuesday. I hope to get all completion posts checked Friday night and will use the time stamp on the message for any requested corrections.

I think that is everything... 🤞🏼

For Lighten (of course) - is it any unread book added to any shelf?

I have a few mutually exclusive shelves. I put books on some shelves while I think about them or await publication if I haven't already bought them. (Purchased books go on the Want to Read shelf...)

Kirsten | 238 comments Have a great weekend!

Though I joined GR in 2014, I didn’t really use it (nor add any books) till 2020. How will I be able to “prove that to you?

message 228: by Starstruck (new)

Starstruck | 616 comments Hope you have a fab weekend!

Before I caught the challenge bug I used GR to log read books. Out of the first 200 on my shelf I've only got 5 unread romances - which won't last long 😳

Would this qualify for an exception if Lighten is called?

message 229: by Gustaf (new)

Gustaf | 1936 comments How about preferences for Lighten. I would rather not have to read MF books if I don't have to but I didn't really start logging MM books until 2018.

message 230: by Steph (new)

Steph | 775 comments Hi Kat! I'm also here about Lighten.

I joined in 2013 but didn't start steadily using GR until 2020 and didn't (and still don't really) use a TBR until 2021. I sorted my shelves like you said for those who joined 2017 and later and there are only read books on the first 2 pages.

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 1454 comments Hello. Another one who needs an exception. I started in May 2020, however, when I filter as directed above I don't have any unread books in the first 200 books.

One book on my TBR was added in 2020, but that book is not currently available. All other books on my TBR were added in 2021 or later.

Should I use the first page or first two pages of my TBR?

also, does moss count?

message 233: by Jean (last edited Aug 04, 2022 07:56AM) (new)

Jean | 869 comments Kat, I also don’t use the ŷ for anything but to keep track of my read books. I keep books I want to read in two places, first on a list I want to check out from my library and second are books I have bought but not read on my kindle. Maybe my kindle will show when I bought the book. I definitely would have some that are older than 2016. If this is too difficult to determine as long as this is not the main challenge for the week I will just ignore the scavenger hunt part of the week.

Edit so I did look and the book details on my kindle do show when I bought book and it looks like I first got my kindle in 2014. And I definitely can take a screen shot on that. See this example

In your case, use your 'to-read' shelf instead of including all your books. Follow the instructions above, just use the specified shelf in place of 'name's' bookshelves.

I will make this an exception for everyone. 😊

message 237: by MountainKat, Moderator (last edited Aug 04, 2022 10:22AM) (new)

MountainKat | 30695 comments If following the instructions above for joining in 2017 or later only provides read books, you are free to use your 'to-read' shelf in place of all your books.

Please include that you are using this exception in your completion posts.

ETA: You may also use this exception if you did not read romance when you first joined GR. Include that explanation in your completion posts.
