Including the excluded ones, I read 25 of these (well, 24: I am currently reading American Rust by Meyer, which has spent more than 10 years on my TBR shelf). I don't have too many left on the TBR shelf this month:

- Song of Solomon (Morrison)
- Pnin (Nabokov)

I'm open for other choices, as long as they're not Munro or Murakami (read them all), and Murdoch (not a fan).

Diane | 2044 comments I have read everything but Tropic of Capricorn. I will be voting for that one.

message 4: by Pip (new) - rated it 5 stars

Pip | 1822 comments I have read about 32, including the excluded, which leaves about 16. Don’t see any of these which I am desperate to read!

Kristel (kristelh) | 5018 comments Mod
I've read 26 of these. I've not read any Lorrie Moore. I also haven't read Henry Miller. Others that I can find include The Sound of Waves, Inland, and Ada. I haven't read Sputnik Sweetheart.

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1665 comments So there are 10 I haven't read, and sadly none of them are the ones that have come up so far. Mine are:

-Crossfire
-The Bell,
-The Black Prince
-Romantics
-Family Matters
-Max Havelaar
-The Holder of the World
-News from Nowhere
-The Time of Indifference
-Southern Seas

am open to any of them

message 7: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2103 comments I have only read 15 of these. I could go with Ada or Pnin, Song of Solomon or Tropic of Capricorn. On Amanda's list I have only read Mx Havelaar. As usual, I am open to many.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

2 books excluded from the randomiser they are:

Cloud Atlas
Lolita

message 9: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 668 comments I have read 20 and don't own any waiting to be read, so I'm open to anything else that I can access relatively easily at the library or online.

I have read Song of Solomon and Pnin. Of Amanda's list I could go for The Holder of the World, News from Nowhere, or The Time of Indifference.

message 10: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1665 comments Well since its vote time, based on what people have said I'm going to vote for either The Holder of the World, or News from Nowhere.

Anyone else want to vote for one of these and have a preference?

message 11: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2103 comments I could go for any of the three if others have strong preferences but my first choice would be Holder of the World

message 12: by Pip (new) - rated it 5 stars

Pip | 1822 comments I have read Holder of the World so I will go for News from Nowhere which I can get from Open Library

message 13: by George P. (last edited Jul 22, 2022 05:19AM) (new)

George P. | 697 comments I've read less than a third of these, so lots of options for me. I've also read some of those excluded.
The highest up in my to-read list: Murdoch's The Bell; farther on: Beggar Maid, Ada, Kafka on the Shore and The Bluest Eye.
Since Kristel and Gail have both favored Ada I'm inclined to vote for that, but Gail says it's not her first choice and Amanda said she plans to vote for another one.
What do you think I should vote for?

message 14: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2103 comments I am following Pip, Rosemary and Amanda and going with News from Nowhere.

message 15: by Rosemary (last edited Jul 21, 2022 01:24PM) (new)

Rosemary | 668 comments My library doesn't have Ada, but I have loved what I've read of Nabokov's books (especially Pnin), so if Ada gets in, I would be fine with buying it.

However I will vote for News from Nowhere. I know shamefully little about William Morris except being familiar with his designs from my parents' wallpaper, upholstery and curtains growing up, and I've never been to Kelmscott despite living only 25 miles away. Perhaps this will be an incentive.

message 16: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1665 comments cool cool: just voted for News from Nowhere.

Kristel (kristelh) | 5018 comments Mod
Voting closed
Random pick A Gate at the Stairs - Lorrie Moore
Popular Vote: News from Nowhere - William Morris

TBR announced tomorrow.

What will you be reading?

message 18: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1665 comments neat: I'll be reading news from nowhere. I've already read A Gate at the Stairs recently, but could host the botm if no one else is dead set on it.

I will keep that in mind, probably will be yours

message 20: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Brown | 835 comments Well, it turns out I can get 'News from Nowhere' for $0.99 on the kindle. So, here's hoping I can fit it in for Sept.!

message 21: by Pip (new) - rated it 5 stars

Pip | 1822 comments Excellent! Something I voted for has won for the first time in ages. Both are available on Open Library and I have read neither. I am looking forward to September.

message 22: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2103 comments Diane, as you have read both books you could host a buddy read for Henry Miller

Diane | 2044 comments Gail wrote: "Diane, as you have read both books you could host a buddy read for Henry Miller"

I can do that if enough people are interested.

message 24: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2103 comments I would join you

I believe that there are others that are interested in reading Tropic of Capricorn and I can find a audio version on Hoopla so probably would join depending on time.

message 26: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 668 comments I will be reading News From Nowhere.
I read A Gate at the Stairs in 2020 so I will skip that one.

In a minor miracle, I haven't read either and should probably secure both before September. I cannot recall the last time I have been able to read both BOTMs in consecutive months.

message 28: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 552 comments I will be reading News from Nowhere, a local library has a copy so have requested it.

I'll host it then.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

My library hold of A Gate at the Stairs arrived super early so I can host if no-one else wants to

Did you want to moderate this one? A buddy read?
