You might try Peter Green's The Laughter of Aphrodite. It's Historical Fiction rather than strictly non-fiction and I haven't read it myself, but Green was an expert on the subject and he did write several fine books about ancient Greece.

I'm not aware of any "biography of Sappho;" as a biographer I'd guess there is far to little known fact to make such a work possible. I recommend looking at Sue Blundell's Women in Ancient Greece

Women in Ancient Greece (other topics)Spartan Women (other topics)
The Laughter of Aphrodite: A Novel about Sappho of Lesbos (other topics)
Any other resources dealing with Lesbos and Greece of her era in more general terms would also be welcome.
Thanks!
