Mckayla | 3 comments I need some friends who read and review horror, thriller, and just weird books in general. Currently my feed is mostly people reviewing romance. [Which I don't enjoy]

message 2: by Char (new)

Char | 17379 comments I don't enjoy romance either. I like when everybody dies. :)

message 3: by Gareth (new)

Gareth Is Haunted (garethj1979) | 64 comments Haha. I feel the same.

Theresa (mysteries.and.mayhem) (mysteriesandmayhem) | 359 comments I think I have a good mix of friends right now. I like to see reviews of books I wouldn't normally read, so there's some romance mixed in there too. But mostly my friends are all in the horror, thriller, bizarre camp. :) Yeah, I'm quite happy!

Not to be confused with the Al-Gore-ithm.

ahaha ... *snort*. Sorry. I see a pun, I pick it up. I have no self control!

Sarah | 16 comments I'm with you. I hate romance books and I need more friends that like horror, thrillers and things of that nature!

Anyone in the group can feel free to friend request me. Just please answer my soft challenge question so I know you're not a bot.
"from Horror Aficionados" or even something simple as "HA" will suffice.

Yessssssss god sometimes it's hard to express to people that I both enjoy reading about torture and murder but I'm also not a psychopath XD

I'm reading a Konrath book Bite Force that even has hints of abuse of a corpse but I'm also lmao at other scenes. It's the humor in his books that make some pretty ugly stuff bearable.

message 19: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 188 comments Hi McKayla, yes I believe you came to the right place, romance is always the last on my list (if ever) unless they are tortured as mentioned by Char above, feel free to add me too!

message 20: by Diane (new)

Diane Johnson | 115 comments Hi McKayla,

Boy do I hear you! Romance is not my go to read. Give me a Stephen Graham Jones over a Danielle Steele any day! Horror Aficionados is a great place to find the weird stuff!

message 21: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Carter (bookedbyavalkyrie) | 1 comments I sent a request, I also need more horror friends! will approve any of y'all if you send one my way too.

message 22: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 1966 comments @McKayla: I sent you a Friend Request and would enjoy talking horror with you. LoL you can probably tell from my avatar... I LOVE HORROR :-D

message 23: by Damini (new)

Damini | 132 comments Hey McKayla, sent you a friend request! i feel the same, because while my friends do diversify in what they read, they're not into horror because it's spooky (I mean, that's the whole point). Looking forward to connecting on reviews, recommendations and more!

Not everybody . Dogs must always survive!

message 27: by Sally (new)

Sally | 340 comments @Ann I agree 1000% with this statement!

message 28: by Anja (new)

Anja Henriksen | 143 comments I almost only read and review horror (more or less every type beside romance lol, but including splatterpunk, extreme, bizarro) and thriller (including sci-fi thrillers like techno-thrillers, but mostly psychological thrillers, crime, suspense police procedural). I have many books in the genres of historical fiction, alternate reality, dystopian, and such I want to read, but almost never get to, because I have more in horror and Thrillers I want to read ;)

Sometimes I remove a friend, if they tend to like everything their friends reads, and they have friends who reads lot's of romance, because I've had my feed flooded with romance stories because of friends-friends lol.

feel free to add if it seems useful for you ;)

For sure!

message 30: by Erin (new)

Erin (ems84) | 8935 comments I have read some romance novels that I have actually liked BUT they are the ones where someone in the relationship dies, so not really a happy ending.

message 31: by Jason (new)

Jason | 38 comments Friend request sent! I need more friends in general. In the week since joining HA, I have increased my number of friends by 50%. I now have 6!

Disclaimer: I have reviewed a few romance books. My wife reads them... And sometimes we do this book club thing... And we are friends with a romance author... And I've done some artwork for her, etc... It's a whole thing. She's a really good writer, but I mostly contemplate the ways she could have killed off the characters. My go to genres are Horror and Thriller, lol.

Paul (Stephen King's version) | 13 comments what's a romance novel?

message 33: by Jason (new)

Jason | 38 comments Paul (Stephen King's version) wrote: "what's a romance novel?"

Romance novels are exactly like horror, except without the satisfaction of the annoying characters being killed off.

And with a lot more bare-chested men and women in bodices on the cover.

message 37: by Sawyer (new)

Sawyer Adding you! I can’t stand romance novels either.
Everyone else feel free to add me as well! 😊👻

message 38: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 1966 comments I just can't do romance at all. I don't mind it a little here and there in the horror/mystery novels I read but a pure romance novel would probably drive me insane!

I know what you mean. I lost a bet in high school to one of my friends and ended up having to read a Harlequin romance, Destined for Dukedom (it's not even on the goodreads site!).

It was years later that I won a GR giveaway (I claim insanity for even entering it), but I read and reviewed To Love a Sea Rogue

Neither my cup of tea. lol

Stacy (Gotham City Librarian) (gothamcitylibrarian) | 21 comments I don't do romance, either. I'll sometimes read strange fiction, like something really depressing where two characters TRY to have a relationship but one of them turns into some kind of monster and eats the other one. (lol) But it's mostly horror for me! Feel free to add me if you want to!

message 41: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 1966 comments @Squire: LoL wow! Yeah, I once read a time travel romance since it won a bunch of awards and all, it literally put me to sleep. I just couldn't do it and learned from that experience to stop reading popular/must-read novels the masses say and stick to the genres I love. Ever since then, I've been happier and finding some gems of new authors and novels!

message 42: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 1966 comments @Stacy: Now that's the kind of romance I can get into!

message 43: by Alan (new)

This is about as close to any "romance" I ever want to see in horror books or movies.
