Everything changes in a single moment for Dawn Edelstein. She's on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement: prepare for a crash landing. She braces herself as thoughts flash through her mind. The shocking thing is, the thoughts are not of her husband, but a man she last saw fifteen years ago: Wyatt Armstrong.

Dawn, miraculously, survives the crash, but so do all the doubts that have suddenly been raised. She has led a good life. Back in Boston, there is her husband, Brian, her beloved daughter, and her work as a death doula, where she helps ease the transition between life and death for patients in hospice.

But somewhere in Egypt is Wyatt Armstrong, who works as an archaeologist unearthing ancient burial sites, a job she once studied for, but was forced to abandon when life suddenly intervened. And now, when it seems that fate is offering her second chances, she is not as sure of the choice she once made.

After the crash landing, the airline ensures the survivors are seen by a doctor, then offers transportation wherever they want to go. The obvious option for Dawn is to continue down the path she is on and go home to her family. The other is to return to the archaeological site she left years before, reconnect with Wyatt and their unresolved history, and maybe even complete her research on The Book of Two Ways--the first known map of the afterlife.

As the story unfolds, Dawn's two possible futures unspool side by side, as do the secrets and doubts long buried beside them. Dawn must confront the questions she's never truly asked: What does a life well-lived look like? When we leave this earth, what do we leave behind? Do we make choices...or do our choices make us? And who would you be, if you hadn't turned out to be the person you are right now?

I'll probably save this one until Monday and finish it on Tuesday.

I don't know about this one. I only have the audio and I think I'm confused as to what's going on. My audio doesn't tell me what % I am at so I don't know when/where to stop to post any thoughts.
But this much I can say:

So that aspect of the story interested me but at the same time it is S-L-O-W so I'm having a hard time getting into it. I did think it was odd that her mind went straight to Wyatt after the plane crash so he must've been super important to her. I'm curious if they reconnect on any real level because she IS still married! (hide spoiler)]

Oh boy, I am totally struggling with this one. I just can't seem to truly get into it. Ugh...But this last section has piqued my interest more.

(view spoiler)[I can't believe that I had the book all along! It's one of my NetGalley books. Ugh...so stupid! lol I couldn't follow with the various Egyptian names! I had to set it aside so maybe now I can finish it.

I enjoyed the section about art and Manet's paintings and the short section on pointillism...brings back memories of my first semester in college when I took The History of Art. I ended up loving it!

I have never heard of a death doula before, only a doula like a midwife. I thought the sections on death and mummies and what they do with various bodily parts was gross but interesting. I love learning about different cultures. I never could understand hatred of people due to the sexual orientation, skin color/ethnicity, nationality, etc. I love discovering differences and celebrating them.

What a sad story about Arlo! Being a parent is not easy but some people have super difficult situations to handle but that love is still there. And the last parts of this section where Dawn and Win have all the discussions on death really got to me. I found some of it enlightening. (hide spoiler)]

I'm liking it more now but definitely not my favorite. lol If you want to skip it, feel free.

I ended up liking it more than I thought, but too many parts of it were too slow for me. I wish I'd liked it more.

Is this your first Jodi Picoult? It's not my favorite by her, so please don't judge her by it. My favorite is Leaving Time, try it instead!
