Based on the recent discussion in this Group and within the ŷ������ team, we're updating our comic book naming conventions.

Currently Comic books are listed according to our standard naming convention Title (Series #1). However, standard naming conventions for comic books list these titles as: Series, Vol#: Subtitle. In our , we indicate that an exception exists in series allocation when "the series name is the primary or only title". As comic books use the series name as their primary title, the naming convention is different. Comic books on ŷ������ will now be titled as follows:

Series, Vol #: Subtitle
Example: Preacher, Volume 1: Gone to Texas (Preacher)
[Note: In this case the series name appears at the end of the title in parentheses as the comic is part of a series].

Since the series name and number/volume is listed as the primary name for comic book records, this should not be repeated in the title field as series information. After much consideration we've decided to maintain that the series page should NOT be numbered and only ordered according to the volume number. This is to prevent confusion when a comic is included in multiple series, and to prevent duplication as the volume number is included in the title. We do encourage that the comic ordering be added to the series description as a reference, to ascertain the position of boxsets or volumes.

If a comic book is a standalone where the series name is the primary or only title this can be listed as the title, as is the case with book titles on ŷ������. In these cases the series name and number can be repeated in the title field.
E.g. The Secret of the Unicorn (Tintin #11) by ������é.

Japanese manga follow the same naming conventions as comics and should also be titled in the same way. This format should be used for manga translated into all languages. For example: Attack on Titan, Vol. 1 (Attack on Titan: #1). Keep in mind our guidance on transliteration for these titles:

If a title is given in non-roman characters (kanji, Cyrillic script, etc.) and a transliteration in roman characters is available, the transliteration can be placed in square brackets after the title and any subtitle; this is optional. Do not provide a translation in the title field.

Examples of transliterations:
エア・ギ�� 1 [Ea Gia 1] (Air Gear #1)
Дверь в лето [Dverʹ v leto]
夏への扉 [Natsu e no tobira]

We appreciate everyone's feedback on this change and believe it is an improvement on the current naming convention that will bring comic book titles more in line with commonly accepted standards.

A note on valid comic book records

The following comic book formats are considered valid book records on ŷ������:

* periodicals and bound comic books with ISBNs

The following are not considered valid books records and will be removed:

* Individual comics [unless they have an ISBN or ASIN (individual Kindle editions only)]
* Webcomics [unless published in individual volume(s) in print or as ebook(s)]
* Incomplete and in progress works (this is different from "forthcoming" works, which are considered completed but as yet unpublished)
