What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you can’t give yourself a beautiful life?
From the day she watched her kindergarten teacher drop dead during a dramatic telling of Peter Rabbit, Clover Brooks has felt a stronger connection with the dying than she has with the living. After the beloved grandfather who raised her dies alone while she is traveling, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City, dedicating her life to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process.
Clover spends so much time with the dying that she has no life of her own, until the final wishes of a feisty old woman send Clover on a trip across the country to uncover a forgotten love story––and perhaps, her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted roads of romance and friendship, Clover is forced to examine what she really wants, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it.
Probing, clever, and hopeful, The Collected Regrets of Clover turns the normally taboo subject of death into a reason to celebrate life.
(view spoiler)[ wow, I agree with Clover's neighbor - that sounds like a very tough job. I wouldn't be able to see death day in and day out and have it not affect me emotionally I mean, I know Clover tries to put 2 weeks between her clients but wow, it's still a lot. But it's important. I love how special she is to be with someone in the end in a way the friends and family can't.
the story of her parents and her grandpa are both very sad.
I really like her neighbor Leo and her new neighbor. She has so many opportunities for connection, I hope she takes them! (hide spoiler)]
hmmm, that was a bumpy group of chapters (view spoiler)[ i'm not sure how I feel about Sebastian now. they definitely don't seem to have much in common at all! and I think that first kiss was telling
but I do like that they are getting honest with each other but it's probably a bad sign that it's at the risk of each of them blowing up at each other! lol
I'm not sure what to make of the long lost romance. I wonder what will happen with this Hugo guy
and the Sylvie freakout was a bit odd. I think Clover is in the wrong here. She's decided to interpret two different situations - the neighbors she spies on and Sylvie's interaction with them. Clover should stop jumping to conclusions and start talking to her friends .. .curious to see where it goes from here. I liked reading about the photos and the grandma's history of her career and life. sad she was so unhappily married (hide spoiler)]
and I'm done what a great ending! (view spoiler)[ I love the she finally cleaned out that apartment and now she's traveling again
I love the gift from Hugo! What a great guy he is!!
I'm so glad she told her about the letters and grandpa Hugo and how he loved her. I think that was good for her to know in the end. and I'm so glad she and Sebastian knew it wouldn't work loved that she talked with Sylvie too and apologized
