Okay, so my plan was to reread this to see if it still hurt and to see if it could help get me out of my reading slump. I can confirm, it definitely still hurts. I finished this late at night yesterday and cried myself to sleep. (Then again, I am overall an emotional person to begin with. That might have had something to do with all the sobbing that took place.) It also did a pretty good job at getting me out of my slump.


The Premise - The Sinclairs are a noble and very wealthy family who, during the summer, live on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts. The book is told from the perspective of Candance Sinclair Eastman. She is part of a friend group called the Liars, which consists of Cady, Gat, Mirren, and Johnny. Throughout the book, Gat and Cady fall farther and farther in love. (Not a spoiler, it starts happening early on.)


How Is This Book a Mystery? - On page 4, Candace first mentions her accident. Cady describes what she remembers of her accident as sinking down into the deep ocean and seeing the base of Beechwood Island. She must have suffered a head injury, because she has had amnesia since the accident. (view spoiler)


Is We Were Liars Worth Reading? - If you ask me, simply, yes.
