Lyra Prescott gets a call from Father Henry because her grandmother Gigi is stealing Holy water…again! Let’s talk about Gigi and the role she serves in this story.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2911 comments Gigi knows her son is a a** yet she loves him. But she recognizes her doesn't have her best interests in mind. She loves Lyra and proves that by moving to California to provide her with a home base. Gigi is a smart old bird and Lyra, and her brothers, love her totally and completely.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1191 comments Gigi knows what family should, and should not, be -- and she embodies that for Lyra.

Robin (robinmy) | 2413 comments Gigi stepped in and took care of her grandchildren when her son and daughter-in-law were too busy to bother. She is the backbone of the family, along with her late husband. She knows exactly what her son is up to, but wants to keep the peace in the family.

I agree with you all. Gigi represents a "mother" figure to her grandchildren. They would have been lost if not for her. And within this story, I think she also provides comic relief. Many of her scenes are funny - I laughed out loud a time or two.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3396 comments I agree with all of you. I loved Gigi. She is a hoot, and a woman who likes to live her life her way. She made me laugh too.
