message 103: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments I’m going out on a limb here, because I just saw the title and UK cover of the sequel.

Is Sagittarius: (view spoiler)

message 104: by Aga (last edited Nov 14, 2023 06:55AM) (new)

Aga | 1036 comments Is Scorpio (view spoiler)?
And one more try: is Sagitarius (view spoiler)? It’s a wild guess but that cover!

some of these, if you guess I'd be absolutely shocked. fun fact: only 2 books considered by the mods were on multiple mods' radars. those books were not selected by either. otherwise, there was no overlap at all in our pools.

message 107: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments Is the author of the Pisces book one that’s been on the shelf before?

message 108: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments No

message 109: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments And yeah some of the ones people are trying to guess, I feel like if someone does, then you must be 100% on the same wavelength as the person who wrote the horoscope.

message 110: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments I’d love to know which ones interest people based on the horoscopes alone? And why?

message 111: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1036 comments I think I would pick Cancer or Scorpio as Fantasy book. Cancer shoud be a fun adventure and Scorpio might be something cozy.

From SciFi definitely Libra! There is a solid chance for robots or AI.

Personalized horoscope assured me those should be good choices for me.

message 112: by Sarah (last edited Nov 14, 2023 09:55AM) (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments At the risks of driving the mods crazy, I’d like to submit a guess for Aquarius: (view spoiler)

Not ignoring your question Anna- I’m not sure any are really standing out to me personally based on horoscope alone? There’s a couple I think I’d definitely avoid (based on certain trigger words rather than overall vibes) but nothing that leaped off the page (screen) at me as “read this now!

ETA: my own hesitance is not a reflection on the horoscopes, but just distrust of myself to pick the “right thing haha. I’d almost rather leave it to the fates so to speak than contribute to voting in a book I had no interest in reading. Which is likely to happen. I am not a gambler, in case we couldn’t tell.

message 113: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments Yeah I get it, that's why you'll know the books before voting ends!

Sarah | 3131 comments Anna wrote: "Yeah I get it, that's why you'll know the books before voting ends!"

Oh good. Later I’ll come make a spoiler tagged post with how I’m interpreting all the clues. Maybe us guessers can pool notes, maybe the mods can have a good laugh.

Ladies, laddies, and NB baddies, the Star Gates are opening! Polls are UP! You may vote starting December 1! Once all the books are revealed via your own genius or modly intervention, whichever is first, the polls will be hidden, meaning you will not see what book is in the lead! You can still change your vote whenever, but it's not a mod madness without some DRAMA! See you in the polls!

EPILOGUE:

Or here. We're still here. But that's not as epic a way to end things, so I appended it. Continue requesting horoscopes, deciphering others' and making guesses!

Melanie | 1514 comments Mod
...so 2 of my guesses were correct? The mod posted they were not.

message 117: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments Maybe mod was *too* cryptic? 😂 The post after your guesses means that Allison’s starting post had been updated with links to those books that had been correctly guessed. And now that the polls are up, any new (correct) guesses will be updated there!

(Allison will spank me for not being a mysterious little shit 😜)

No, it's good to have the spreadsheetly one intercede I GUESS

Someone had guessed before you, Melanie. So I think, in a technicality, you guessed 1.

But the mods are not super broadcasting, because of the ***mystique***

Gottcha. I will admit to being very disappointed I was "wrong" because I really thought I nailed those 2 descriptions. Especially (view spoiler) because what other book would that be!? And now I am happy and vindicated :)

your happiness is also ours ^^

message 122: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1766 comments On the fantasy side, I am interested in Pisces because it seems like it might involve oceans and sea creatures. And Sagittarius sounds fun with entertaining characters.

On sci fi, Virgo and Aquarius both sound quirky, like lots of different elements are combined in the stories. Virgo sounds like there's outdoorsy fun with animals, and Aquarius was mentioned in my horoscope so I am definitely extra intrigued.

I feel it is only fair to say that Virgo is my darling AI fox's domain, and as such, you need to understand the ways of the AI fox to decipher her impeccable glory.

Please do not take offense at this. I myself do not claim to know her ways, and she is my sister-heart.

Kaa wrote: "Can I get a horoscope? I don't know if it will mean anything to me, but I'm curious!"

*Draws the cards*

Interesting. The Star, the Moon, The Empress, Six of Cups, Four of Wands Reversed.

Virgo offers you release. Capricorn whispers to you in the language of anger. Gemini asks you "what if". You may choose to answer, and the reciprocation you receive will be what you put into it. Cancer shows you a softer side of that which you enjoy. Pisces offers you an escape.

message 134: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments I love that many of the books people are guessing (for mine) are books I actually considered using for this (or previous mod madness Januaries) XD (You don't know which ones are mine, so that won't help you whatsoever.)

message 135: by Aga (last edited Nov 19, 2023 01:28AM) (new)

Aga | 1036 comments Hmmm interesting horoscope. Perhaps Virgo is The Star, Capricorn the Moon, Gemini The Empress, Cancer is Six of Cups, Pisces Four of Wands reversed.

If that is true, we have some more clues.

message 136: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments I don't know what any of that means, so I couldn't confirm or deny even if I wanted to :D

message 137: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments I'm about to get some sleep after two nights of nearly none, and to celebrate that, I want to give the tiniest of clues!

Exactly one of the books is by an author who is already on the group shelf, and probably surprising no one, it's one of mine. I did have *two* books by Sheri Tepper in the mix for January 2021 Matchmaker Mods after all :D (No, it's not her this time.) How two-faced of me, considering how often I harp on about not allowing repeat authors! Now you just have to figure out which author already on the shelf I'd be likely to reuse in a poll, and what sign one of their books could possibly mirror :)

message 138: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments So Gemini quick someone make a list of Anna’s favorite authors on the shelf.

T Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon
Emmi Itaranta I think is one

Who else?!

message 139: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1514 comments Mod
Yoon Ha Lee

message 140: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments Melanie wrote: "Yoon Ha Lee"

Oh yeah good one. Maybe Emma Newman?

Maybe it’s not Gemini. I am guessing gemini based on the references to mirroring and two faced. Lol

message 141: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments Is Gemini: (view spoiler)

At this point I’m just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. 😂

Diana Wynn Jones, I think.

All are good guesses, but I don't think it will be T. Kingfisher because we read Nettle & Bone this year.

I've totally been throwing spaghetti with my guesses. 🍝

message 144: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments Yeah I also think Kingfisher leans more fantasy than SciFi.

Then I was thinking maybe Martha Wells/Murderbot but it’s too short. Lol.

Well, this was dumb it’s already on the shelf.

How about: (view spoiler)

I basically have to guess it at this point because if that’s it and I don’t I will kick myself since I did the buddy read with Anna.

message 146: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3131 comments Okay last guess, and then I’ll be quiet for the night:

Gemini: (view spoiler)

Be careful when shooting the moon. A scattergun approach may lead to catching a stray.

Don't get exasperated by miscommunication. States of confusion are often transitional. You may be better off focusing on other areas or at least not giving this issue all of your attention. The solution might actually be in only giving half of yourself.
