Love this idea!

TerryJane | 3845 comments Q4 and October challenges are going up today, and we are now seeking ideas for the end of 2024. Where did the time go?

November: Voice <-- Seeking ideas
December: Kindness <-- Seeking ideas

Also, we will need challenge leaders for one quarterly and both October challenges. Please look them over and let us know if you're interested.

You may have seen our announcement that Lisa is now a moderator. I suspect she will continue to enjoy creating challenges, but I don't know whether she'll have time to lead so many challenges now.

Happy reading, everyone!

Main words:

3. generosity
4. tolerance
5. goodness
6. compassion
7. hospitality
8. gentleness

1. cruelty
2. malice
3. heartlessness
4. viciousness
5. animosity

Thank you, Anshika! These are great prompts to reflect the theme of Voice, but you included enough for a quarterly, when the theme applies only for one month.

From post #1 in this thread:
Generally, we offer a pair of challenges for each month and quarter.
One theme based; one either on- or off-theme
One with prompts; one open ended
8-10 prompts per monthly; 18-20 prompts per quarterly

Would you like to narrow it down to 8-10 of your favorite prompts? And, if this challenge were selected, would you like to lead it?

Anshika | 51 comments I'm sorry, I must haven't checked the rules.

here's the revised version-

1. A book with a first-person narrator

2. A book with a strong female voice

3. A book with dual POVs

4. A book with a child narrator

5. A book with an elderly narrator

6. A book with a non-human narrator

7. A book with multiple narrators

8. A book with a distinct narrative style

I may be unable to lead it since I'm quite busy that month. But I can lead the October challenge (if you are looking for one).

Thank you for paring down the prompt list, Anshika. It is much more manageable for a monthly challenge now.

Thanks, also, for offering to lead an October challenge. We do need a leader for Shades of Orange, if you'd like to try it. I'll send you a message later. 😊

SarahKat | 5993 comments Throwing this out there for November. It's similar to the other options but with (I think) a fun little twist. I wrote it as open but it could be restricted to prompt-based.

V - Varied Narrators: Read books with an unconventional narrator. This could be a first-person account from an unusual perspective, like a child, an animal, or an inanimate object.

O - Own Voices: Read books by a diverse/marginalized author whose main character shares that same trait with the author.

I - Intergenerational Voices: Read books that spans multiple generations or perspectives.

C - Contemporary Voices: Read recent bestsellers or critically acclaimed books published in the last five years.

E - Empowered Voices: Read books that feature characters who overcome significant challenges or find their voice in the face of adversity.

S - Sympathetic Voices: Read books that are geared towards human emotion and relationships.

I do not want to lead

TerryJane | 3845 comments Challenge Leader Needed!

One of our November challenges, the prompt-based Raising Our Voices, is in need of a leader volunteer.
/topic/show/...

If you are new to leading challenges, a monthly is a great way to get your feet wet without a long commitment, and we mods are happy to help as needed.

If you are an experienced leader and have time to lend a hand, that's wonderful, too.

We'll have three challenges in December as well -- one open, one prompt, and the bonus Advent Challenge -- so watch out for those and let us know if you're interested.

Thanks, everyone!

TerryJane | 3845 comments We are posting December challenges today, and that will be it for 2024 challenges! Thank you!

Sometimes we receive more terrific ideas than we can use in a particular month or quarter, and we may set some of the extra ideas aside as possible off-theme ideas for the future. Don't be surprised if one of your submissions shows up later.

A new MCI thread for 2025 will be up soon, where we'll be seeking ideas for February.

Again, thank you all for sharing your great ideas this year!
