Oh I’ll definitely be watching your reading as well! One of the main reasons I’m not planning! 😉😝 sSometimes I feel like Scooby doo when he sees the squirrel! That’s me with books!

Thanks Connie! I finished in July this year so we shall see! I’m not planning but thinking about what I might like to read next year though. It’s hard not to do that!! Hope to read more with you next year!

Shirley (stampartiste) | 1002 comments I think you will enjoy your plan for next year, Lori. Somehow, the last two years, I kept getting sidetracked from my planned reads. Neither year did I make Bingo, but I still felt great about the books I *did* read. I know you will feel the same way when you look back next December on what you read in 2024. Good luck finding those treasures next year!

I’m really excited to find out what transpires and you’re right, it will be great whatever gets plugged in. I do have a few books rolling around in my head already that will fit very nicely!! Thanks Shirley!!

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3676 comments Love your restraint to not plan it, Lori. I'm trying to use my physical shelves as much as possible so I have to try and get those down (not that I'll actually get to them though!).

message 24: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments First one down! O4 a book from the new school shelf. 5 stars easily!

Anne of Green Gables - such a great book to start off the year. So wholesome and inviting! I loved it even as an adult.

My review: /review/show...

message 29: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments Thanks guys! Looking forward to letting it unfold. Now updating to add a few more before February begins.

I1 - short story - Behind a Mask, Or, a Woman's Power 3 stars

N1 - classic made into movie/tv - Peyton Place 4 stars- surprisingly enjoyed this one

B3 - classic satire - Mansfield Park 5 stars - loved it and now in the Fanny price fan club!

message 30: by Wobbley (new)

Wobbley | 2240 comments It's still January and you've already had two 5-star reads in your bingo challenge. What an amazing start to a year!

message 31: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments Isn’t that wonderful!! I’m thrilled for 2 5 stars in the first month. Thanks Wobbley!

message 32: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4216 comments Lori, I'm so glad to see someone else reading Peyton Place and enjoying it! I read it just a couple of years ago, and I liked it so much. But, like you, I was surprised! Really glad though that it wasn't a waste of time and turned out to be a 4-star read! :)

message 33: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments Yes!! Terris, I was worried about it being really dated but the surprise of it was in the writing. Definitely NOT trashy chick lit. This was also one of my IRL book club picks for a banned book this month. I might have influenced this one!🤗

message 34: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4216 comments You're right -- I expected it to feel like "trash chick lit" but it didn't! The writing just kept pulling me in.

And now you're an "influencer!" Yay! ;)

message 35: by Sue (new)

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3676 comments Congratulations on your Progress, Lori. I need to try Mansfield Park again sometime. I didn't care for it but so many people with similar tastes love it.

message 36: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments Sue, It was a lively discussion over in RFP for Mansfield Park. It was pretty divided with those who loved Fanny and those who thought she was boring and didn’t change. I’m wondering if you’d change your opinions now too!

message 37: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments February reads add Cannery Row for G1 Classic of North America and The Strange Gentleman by Charles Dickens for G5 Classic Play.

Oh, I can’t forget B1 Pulitzer Winner Lamb in His Bosom by Caroline Miller which goes straight to the favorites shelf.

Hoping for more to add in March.

message 38: by Sue (new)

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3676 comments You are moving right along, Lori! I wish I would have had time to read Cannery Row again but glad that I could get to Lamb in His Bosom with you and the group.

message 39: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5327 comments Lamb in His Bosom is a special one, isn't it. A great bunch of classics, Lori!

Wobbley | 2240 comments You're making great progress!!

message 42: by Lori (last edited Mar 31, 2024 07:06PM) (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments March turned out more plentiful than I expected. I read books to fill 5 spots but no bingos yet. I’m still catching up on reviews so some of these are waiting for me to make time!

B5 A Classic of Asia or Oceania Cocaine Blues - Kerry Greenwood 💫💫💫💫
Set in Australia and such a fun mystery crime series beginning. I have watched some of the Netflix series which is great and the book was equally good! I’d read more in the series.

I2 A Classic from your Personal Bookshelf - In a Summer Season -Elizabeth Taylor 💫💫💫💫
I needed a fix of Elizabeth Taylor and this was a wonderful way to do that!

I3 A Classic Historical Fiction or a Nonfiction History The Angry Tide - Winston Graham 💫💫💫💫💫
Continuing my Poldark saga series with book 7. A tragic ending which I remember from the tv series. This satisfied my pleasure reading for the month.

G4 A Classic New-to-You Author Love in a Dry Season - Shelby Foote 💫💫💫💫
I was pleasantly surprised to like this one so well because of the cast of unlikable characters. Never having read Foote before now, I loved his writing style.

O5 A Classic Book that Reminds You of Someone Dune - Frank Herbert💫💫💫💫
I promised my family that I would read this book before the second film came out and I made good on my promise. I liked it more than I expected and probably because I had my husband to talk about it with. I could tell he enjoyed reliving the story through me!

Janelle | 813 comments Nice collection of books of Lori! Poldark is such a great series :)

message 44: by Connie (new)

Connie G (connie_g) | 749 comments You had some wonderful reads in March, Lori! Good luck next month in filling more Bingo slots.

message 45: by Wobbley (new)

Wobbley | 2240 comments Wow -- all at least 4 stars, that's terrific!

message 46: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5327 comments Except for Elizabeth Taylor, these are all authors I haven't read, Lori. Well done, and I have some catching up to do!

message 47: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4216 comments Great job, Lori! I'm putting Elizabeth Taylor's "In a Summer Season" on my list!

message 48: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments Thanks all!! I’m hoping April will be just as good!

message 49: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1447 comments I used Chatterton Square by E.H. Young as my free space N3. Loved it and can’t wait to read Miss Mole now. Sadly I didn’t have time for a review but maybe I can get to it at some point.

A classic I’ve been meaning to read N2 The Journey of August King by John Ehle. I loved this continuation of this Mountain series however I probably won’t read them in order. This was a pretty stand alone novel.

A classic in translation B2 I tried a Japanese classic mystery which was also a locked-room mystery. I didn’t know such a thing existed. Anyhow, I didn’t love this one but it’s not deterred me from exploring more Japanese lit.

A classic from the old school shelf G3 - I loved this one! Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell.

Somehow I have managed one diagonal bingo.

message 50: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4216 comments Yay! You have one Bingo!! Good for you ;)
But don't forget, you've read 17 books!! You'll get another Bingo soon ;)

Like you, I am excited to start "Miss Mole"! And, at your recommendation, I have added "Chatterton Square" to my TBR list :)

And I'm glad to see that you've tried some Japanese literature! I have read quite a few now and am really enjoying them. I'm excited to see what you think :)

I'm happy to see that you enjoyed "Mary Barton." You can always count on Elizabeth Gaskell to come through with a good story! Love her!
